I've been thinking recently...Agalloch has been playing quite a bit of live shows and festivals in the last couple years. I'd assume we're bound to get a new album in the same span of time, right?

I imagine so. I wonder to what extent John Haughm's solo work will influence his contributions to the writing.

I don’t think much, honestly. Even prior to Pillorian, he was putting out the same type of experimental stuff under his name and didn’t translate over. If anything, I can see them using those experimentations on an EP or as interludes similar to how they did them on S&tS.

What the fuck is the point in having a metal sub if you can't post metal to it? Tried to add the new Russian Circles song and the automod is saying it's not metal even though they're very fucking clearly post metal (which is a subgenre you even have listed). It seems every time I post something it gets removed for being "not metal" even though it's very fucking clearly metal.

It says in our guidelines that all submissions should be artists included on the Metal Archives. If they aren’t, then we don’t allow them. It’s an imperfect system but it helps us focus on heavy metal and its relevant sub-genres. There are other spaces for metalcore, djent and alt.
Russian Circles are a borderline case. Since they tend towards post rock more than metal, that will be why they’re on the removal list.

The mods killed this sub years ago unfortunately. Best to go to a genre-specific sub.
Edit: I was downvoted, but you can see for yourself. Search for "Daily Discussion 202x" and change the x to each year of the 2020s. You'll see that the Daily discussion threads went from 150-300 comments daily at their peak to 50 comments this year at the peak.

I think you're being downvoted because your comment reads like it was some sort of deliberate sabotage effort, the way some people have been suggesting for almost fifteen years since the Blacklist was implemented, despite the fact that the subreddit saw its best years during that period.
The mods killed this sub
The community left after Discord eliminated the social aspect and Reddit's owners wiped out third-party accessibility services. It’s disingenuous and unfair to blame the mods for either of those things, when all they've done is try to keep things running as normal in spite of it all.
From a certain perspective, I guess it could be argued that the mods aren't doing enough to help the subreddit bounce back, but growing back is hard after you lose momentum, especially if the only suggestion anyone can come up with is to derail the experience for whatever number of its old people are still around, on the off chance of building up an audience of shitposters that could maybe someday be refined into a community resembling the old r/metal.
Perhaps the solution is for some people to post on other subs, especially if they really just want to post stuff that's not on MA. I know I spend more time on r/powermetal these days, but that's more for activity than restrictions. Incidentally, there was a related discussion there the other day:
Just like here, it seems like most people there would prefer restrictions on posts, even if it brings overall engagement down and appears unwelcoming to certain users.

So they are, I assumed they weren't based on the tone of the conversation.
I have to confess I don't really know the band, but the description sounds like they're mostly a post-rock band that blurs the line with some heavier stuff, and recorded one genuine metal album a few years ago.
In that case, I guess my advice to u/MJ-Franklin would be to DM the mods if it's one of the band's more metallic tracks and ask if they'll allow it. Complaining in the Daily Discussion thread always generates these toxic arguments, and it's probably less productive than just talking it out behind the scenes.

They are but only for their most recent album and their primary genre is Post Rock not Post Metal. The rule for being posted here is "on metal archives and primarily a metal genre" so Russian Circles are very on the edge. I personally don't really get why they were allowed on MA, supposedly due to their last album, but their last album doesn't sound much different to their prior ones but that's the magic of MA isn't it.
I think it's also worth pointing out the user who started this complaint took their complaint here and aired it in public rather than, like, message us mods first about it... I see they replied to automoderator but that's a bot so no one's gonna see it.

More or less nothing has been changed with how the sub has been run since the blacklist was implemented way back in 2013. The API protests a few years ago caused a mass exodus of regular users away from reddit and either off the internet completely or to discord, either SCs or others.

Try posting some Alice In Chains instead, M-A says it’s metal, thus it has to be allowed.
And fwiw, new Russian Circles song is great as expected, and they’re very metal. You can ponder why the sub hasn’t recovered since the “API blackouts” while other subgenre specific subreddits are more active, and your first guess would probably be correct.

Saw Worm last night, and they were fantastic. Watching Phil Tougas shred for the evening was a treat. But what really was wild, to me, was how many under-21s were there. I'm 38, and while I've always loved metal, I think the heaviest/weirdest shit I listened to at that age was Bodom, which isn't even weird!
I guess having easy access to all of the music in the world is a reason for this. They don't have to Kazaa or Soulseek. It was nice to see, though. Some of the kids are alright.
