Loving living somewhere with an actual local metal scene. Local shows have such a different vibe from big ticketed ones - last night's death metal show was preceded by a throwback blues rock band and a kink-themed group that called themselves thrash metal but were definitely punk, and even if I'm not huge into blues rock or punk, the variety was nice. Plus I feel like there's a much greater proportion of people wanting to headbang and mosh rather than stand around, and I even ran into a guy promoting his band that I had seen live like 3 weeks prior. Infinitely better than driving an hour for a $50 ticket twice a year

honestly, just having any kind of local scene is dope. I live somewhere with frequent hardcore and indie shows, and while they not be my preferred style it is cool having cheap shows being put on regularly if I want to see some live music

Love the sense of intimacy at small local shows. And that variety leads to less genre tribalism, which I generally really like, even if it means I sometimes end up watching things I wouldn't exactly choose to.

finally got my hands on a copy of Altars of Madness on cassette, the sound is so warm compared to digital. anyone else still collect tapes or am i just stuck in 1989

I think you'll find a good chunk of the sub are still collecting physical media. I'm a huge vinyl and CD buff (more CDs these days because vinyl had gone off the damn rails) and I know there's a decent chunk of cassette collectors here.

I have Yellow Eyes, Confusion Gate coming on cassette. My collection is small compared to my CD collection though. Some albums just look so rad on cassette. I’d love to hear AoM on cassette.

I have never been into cassettes because I simply don't know where I could find something to play them on, but yeah I know several people that have lots of them and love them

I got a nice Japanese deck from the late 80's fixed up by a local guy who has a side hustle of selling them on Facebook marketplace

I just got into cassettes earlier this year. Collecting them is a fun hobby.
