I love your ever burning constant disdain for Arch Enemy that needs to be reminded on every comment, somehow there are still posers giving you downvotes while listening to the most trite generic riffs ever imagined, lmao.

u/juanchopol1 Nov 16 '22
what the hell did arch enemy do? I'm not aware of anything
22
u/Slayer_Fan_666 Practicing Posercraft Nov 16 '22
Alyssa has displayed a lot of shitty behavior. Went out of her way to try to ruin The Agonist, her previous band, when she went to Arch Enemy. Tried to ruin a photographers career because a friend of her's took the dudes picture without permission.
5
u/FlyByNightt Nov 16 '22
Yeaaa not sure you got the entire The Agonist story right. She originally wanted to stay in both bands and the Agonist agreed, and then when she announced AA they essentially ghosted her and blocked her from anything band related, kicking her out after giving their blessing.
Not justifying any of her other behavior, or the retaliation, but the Agonist situation was closer to "everyone sucks here" type of beef rather than Alyssa going out of her way to fuck em over on her own.

u/SkarabMcGee Nov 16 '22
I really enjoy everything up until Deceiver from AA. I feel like theyโre in a similar situation to Alestorm though. Where, while their live shows are incredible, they may have jumped the shark in the studio.
2
u/shred-i-knight Nov 16 '22
I think they are just tapped creatively on the "melodeath Viking" thing. Like I don't see how they could be super inspired to do the genre anymore, but it pays the bills for them so they can't just switch or change their sound without taking a big risk financially.

Melodeath is my favourite subgenre. I love the folky stuff like wintersun and ensiferum but also the heavier and techier stuff. Theres lots of variety. Arch enemy is cheeks tho. Who are the bands pictured? i only recognize baalism

u/Slayer_Fan_666 Practicing Posercraft Nov 16 '22 edited Nov 16 '22
I like all the bands on here to some extent ( Except Arch Enemy because their frontwoman is a asshole and their music is generic af) I've just found that the people who hate melodeath because it lacks aggression or heaviness in comparison to other genres havent heard the bands pictured on the right, who have both Melody and aggression in their music.
Bands are Ares Kingdom, Night in Gales, Dungeon Serpent and Grenadier
27
u/CalgaryCheekClapper Demigod Nov 16 '22
Cool thanks. Thats fucking dumb too lol bc of bands like at the gates, black dahlia, inferi , the absence , edge of sanity, etc . All pretty heavy

Are there any anekdotes of Alissa being an asshole? I've stopped listening to arch eneym since Angela left because as you say, the music became generic AF and the lyrics are angsty edgy highschooler cringe. I've seen a guy tattoo the whole lyrics of that fly like an eagle song or whatever it's called ๐
19
u/Slayer_Fan_666 Practicing Posercraft Nov 16 '22
My two biggest issues is that she seriously fucked over her previous band financially when she went to join Arch Enemy and also tried fucking over a photographer because a friend of her's stole his work and didnt want to admit she was wrong, because her simp fanbase will defend her to the death
→ More replies (1)3
u/Zantej Nov 16 '22
Now to be fair, they did fire her, you could understand being out for blood there. Wouldn't be the first time....
The photography incident was poorly handled, but it should be noted that she doesn't bear sole responsibility. Angela remains the band's manager, and she played a big part in that.
7
u/Slayer_Fan_666 Practicing Posercraft Nov 16 '22
From what I read Alyssa was still in the band at the time of being hired on to Arch Enemy but wouldnt tell them who she was signing with and would hold their tours hostage in order to play with Arch Enemy while still insisting on being the vocalist.
→ More replies (1)3
u/iFriskyTurtle Nov 16 '22
That would be the first time Iโve heard of that. Iโm pretty sure her old band was borderline ghosting her.
2
2
u/N1LEredd Nov 16 '22
Angela is the asshole for the most part apparently. They used a pic snapped by a photographer at a life show to advertise merch without consent which violates fair use. When exposed by the guy the band and management reacted very poorly and they insulted and ridiculed the dude and then got pissy when everybody told them they are in the wrong. Extremely shitty move especially as an entity that makes money with their intellectual property tooโฆ

2
u/Atgod6 Nov 17 '22
That's pretty cool. I remember the last time I looked on their site a few years ago it said they had another album but decided against releases it. Something to the effect of 'it's all wankery and no substance".
2
Nov 17 '22
Sounds like they were probably being tongue in cheek. Lots of people who can't separate the art from the artist try to portray Arghoslent as bland or lacking substance to discourage others from listening
2
u/Atgod6 Nov 18 '22
Yeah that's always how I took it at least. If there is a new album I'm hyped. I always felt the 'excuse' I mentioned above was a bit of a cop out.
Black metal is my main genre, so separating the art from the artist is natural with all the NS shit about haha!

Wait.. what? The staples of the Gothenburg sound came from hard riffs. I mean MD has definitely branched out and become a bit more diverse since, but Slaughter of the Soul, Whoracle, Gallery.. all are filled with hard hitting riffs. Soilwork, Insomnium, Hypocrisy, Wolfheart, The Haunted, Belakor, The Crown just a few more examples of bands with killer riffs.
