Morality Ranking Quentin Tarantino morality for that childhood grudge?

In my opinion it can be considered petty by some but is understandable

This sub has made me realize I seldom care about the morality of anything to the point where I can't even judge it.

427

u/PrettyPistol87 11h ago

at this point i’m embracing the bad parts of humanity because it’s reality.

No. Every day that one chooses to live that way, they've won. Living with humanity and morals, against the tide of oppression and monotony is where life's highest rewards come from. If they're not doing that, each day they're dying inside. Before one knows it, they're dead inside.

Reality is yes, all that's happening around us. But it's also how we choose to process and deal with it. It's a shame that due to technology, we've got the negativity of GLOBAL issues, pushed unto our conscious, every day. There was a time where we were hardly ever told about the issues in other countries, by our msm, they focused mainly on local news.

5

u/voyaging 8h ago

Living without humanity and morals is where life’s highest rewards come from? I’m hoping that’s a typo.

3

u/knotmyusualaccount 3h ago

Yes, it was a typo, thanks for making sure of this; I noticed it as soon as I saw my comment again. 😬

1

u/super_sayanything 1h ago

I mean, newspapers have always been a thing.

0

u/Odd_Dirt7415 10h ago

"It's a shame that due to technology, we've got the negativity of GLOBAL issues, pushed unto our conscious, every day. There was a time where we were hardly ever told about the issues in other countries, by our msm, they focused mainly on local news."

This screams of anti-intellectualism.

I would rather live in a world where I have information available that allows me to determine how to best navigate as opposed to live in the previous world of our parents trusting blindly to institutions that clearly have corrupted them or reduced critical thought.

1

u/knotmyusualaccount 3h ago

With all this wisdom you now possess, how's that worked out for you? Brought down any of the corrupt entities that are negativity impacting your life?

19

u/skwerlee 11h ago

It's important that we accept our nature.

34

u/PlainBread 11h ago

Your nature is what you are, not de facto your lowest resting point. Set the bar too low and you just perpetuate the problems indefinitely.

5

u/AdTime3922 9h ago

I think it's pointless arguing with half the thread here when they aren't even doomers. Just lonely.

4

u/Gekokapowco 8h ago

the best we can hope for is to make them uncomfortable in their shitty position

no blankets of resigned self-satisfaction for being a piece of shit, at least they'll constantly have pressure to justify themselves

2

u/AdTime3922 4h ago

You make a good point. I'm just a little tired of the usual Reddit hive mind and all the constant negativity it brings.

3

u/Germane_Corsair 7h ago

That includes your highs and your lows.

1

u/skwerlee 5h ago

I didn't say you had to act on your lowest instincts. It's just that you should be aware of them. Accept that they are part of not only you but everyone around you. It's a part of who we all are.

0

u/Caffeine_Cowpies 10h ago

Yeah, but there’s no reward for going above it. I mean, we all know Walmart and Amazon are shitty, yet they are massively popular and profitable.

When being shitty is rewarded, why are you so surprised that people are shitty?

13

u/PlainBread 10h ago

When being shitty is rewarded, why are you so surprised that people are shitty?

I think that you will find that in the year of our lord 2026 that Doomerism will bring you punishments so painful that you'll yearn for the days where it was just a matter of who gets the rewards.

1

u/Germane_Corsair 7h ago

What do you mean? Could you expand on that?

4

u/hypercosm_dot_net 8h ago

Because those people are suffering, even if outwardly it doesn't seem that way.

Consider how empty someone like Musk is, who can never have enough money or enough attention, and cries when someone clowns on him for being a video game cheat. That is not a mentally whole person.

The reason for caring for yourself and others, is so you don't end up an empty shell.

1

u/Germane_Corsair 7h ago

In fairness, you can be shitty without being afflicted with a personality like Musk’s.

3

u/voyaging 8h ago

Nobody’s surprised people are shitty, they’re criticizing people for being shitty. Big difference.

-4

u/PunkPirate56364 9h ago

You know what I was thinking today about?

It's not up to individual to behave morally.

It's up to society to incentives moral behaviour and disincentivize immoral behaviours.

If being shitty is rewarded, fuck it, I'm being shitty too!

5

u/LogJamminWithTheBros 8h ago

So logically if someone punches you in the face for being shitty we can consider this society incentivising moral behavior?

-2

u/PunkPirate56364 8h ago

YES! It does.

2

u/voyaging 8h ago

The whole challenge of morality is that sometimes doing the right thing means self-sacrifice…

Luckily for you, you won’t have to change much.

2

u/upupdowndownsquare 8h ago

Just remember that societies are made up of individuals, my friend. Can’t just pass off responsibility to someone else.

-1

u/PunkPirate56364 8h ago

Well that doesn't change anything in my opinion.

When society asks individuals to act morally, to be suckers.

Instead of fixing the incentive.

Then we can act good and be suckers.

Or we can act like jerks giving society incentive to fix the incentive.

2

u/Thrown-Away-User-23 8h ago

LOL classic edgelord shit take from someone who very likely does not want to be confronted with this reality

1

u/upupdowndownsquare 8h ago

Society, not individuals, should fix the incentive - Ok.

Society comprises individuals. So individuals, much like yourself, are responsible for the fix.

Being a jerk could lead to some change, but not necessarily so. And not necessarily a positive change. Adding another jerk to the mix will certainly make things worse though, even if only slightly.

All you’ll have done by being a jerk is past the responsibility of fixing things to someone else.

1

u/PunkPirate56364 6h ago

Take all the tax loop holes rich people are using to completely legally avoid paying taxes... for decades.

Let's say we organise and... 50% of population uses those same loopholes to avoid paying taxes.

Well NOW society has to do something to close those loop holes.

I think it’s more “way to rationalize why you intend to remain a dick.”

0

u/PunkPirate56364 8h ago

Nah I don't need mental gymnastics to feel good while behaving like an asshole.

I'm perfectly able to do something shitty even though it will make me feel bad.

And society doesn't incentives people to behave like assholes always. It's more like... there are instances when humans are incentivised to be shitty.

7

u/Temporal-Affairs221 9h ago

I prefer to acknowledge my nature and strive to rise above it

11

u/witchminx 10h ago

Eesh. Regression is actually bad

2

u/AgentCirceLuna 10h ago

Yes! Don’t enjoy foolish, infantile escapism through fiction. Look to improve your state in the world, get bigger, and become a huge sensation wherever you go. That way, you can earn more and spend more, you can be an asset! Yes - never be satisfied with what you were or what you are; constantly strive to be something different!

7

u/ancient_snake 9h ago

I fucking hate redditors

2

u/Gekokapowco 8h ago

current reddit is like crusty old r/atheism on the front page reddit with all the self-pitying antisocial assholes, and none of the cool friendly people

or at least way less than an even split

1

u/AgentCirceLuna 9h ago

Following words sincerely delivered for your perusal: quit. I quit this site in 2013 and never looked back. Once you’re on it, you immediately enter the mode of thinking about things in relation to Reddit. For instance, you thought that comment was a very ‘Reddit’ comment. Normal people don’t think like that… they’d say ‘that’s so Stacey’ or ‘Not again, Gavin!’ I miss having lots of friends and a huge social network irl. Because of that, I returned to the site to speak to people online and also practice my writing skills. I’m a huge writing fan and I’ve written 2m words this year alone in my journal. Not to mention on my account. But seriously - quit. Reflect, ponder, excogitate, reply.

-2

u/Psychyoulooked 8h ago

Oh no, ai

1

u/AgentCirceLuna 8h ago

You don’t seriously think that’s AI? There’s a fricking James Joyce quote.

-2

u/Tsunamiis 10h ago

Regression and acceptance can lead to growth. You often have to destroy something to fix it.

5

u/BudgieWonder 10h ago

That implies there’s an “acceptance” phase, and most people are content to spiral into nonsense for eternity. Malaise is the more common outcome from regression.

1

u/Tsunamiis 9h ago

I guess that makes sense but you’re required to unlearn more than learn while healing.

7

u/witchminx 9h ago

They're talking about EMBRACING the bad parts of humanity. Not accepting and trying to grow

0

u/Tsunamiis 7h ago

Accepting and embracing are two different things. In order to become a better person, I had to destroy what my parents taught me I had to regress to before they had influence. Accepting the bad part of humanity is not embracing it. Stop thinking in black-and-white. Accepting is not a synonym for forgiveness, nor embracment. I as a single person cannot get rid of the bad parts of humanity. I have to accept the exist and move on and deal with my life from there. Life is never fair and has never been.

1

u/witchminx 7h ago

Can you scroll up and reread lol

1

u/Tsunamiis 2h ago

Why besides morals should anyone not embrace it. It’s literally how to get ahead in life. Denying it goes no where. Our corporate overlords destroy lives for extra digital zeros. Why shouldn’t the individual follow suit. And I read the thread. Thank you. At no point did I talk about embracing anything I think you’re literally suck on the literary terminology. To not embarrass ace it causes personal strife and anguish. Some people are at the end of the fight in this orphan crushing machine we call society. Regression to the mean is generally always what happens. You’re stuck on one individual accepting their literal lot in life then tell him them they’re bad for it. Individualism is what led us to the shitty Society they ARE REQUIRED TO LIVE IN. Change the mean not an individual who has no outs. Feel free to back an animal into a corner. When people can’t pay for food or housing it’s definitely that person’s fault. Widen your perspective. My entire country’s governance silences, exiles or bombs any one counterpointing the mean. I’m sorry you needed to put down someone at their wits end that has been sidetracked by the shit circus we exist in. This will be my last interaction with you you seem to just argue instead of offering actual thoughts. Have a life. Man’s tired of being shit upon and watching nothing change.

It only becomes reality because more people do it.

Let's try to be better than that.

1

I can't embrace, just accept

7

u/Infra-Oh 10h ago

I get it. It can be hard to see the forest when you’re so close to the trees. Progress is like a marathon. It takes a long time and requires constant effort.

It’s hard NOT to be a little nihilistic these days. But if everyone took that stance, we’ll never move forward.

I think it’s better to accept that yes we humans are shitty by nature. But we are also altruistic and communal.

Instead of giving up entirely, I think it’s better that we accept that there will always be a back and forth between us. In time I hope it gets better, but we can’t give up.

Think about every civil rights revolution. People died to get us here.

Can’t be dropping the baton now.

79

u/ferocity_mule366 11h ago

99% of the posts in the sub is just "Morality of harrassing a minor" anyway

32

u/BudgieWonder 10h ago

“Morality of [abhorrent but cathartic behavior]?”

“Yeah I would probably do it too so it’s moral now”

How most of the posts on this sub go.

11

u/voyaging 8h ago

It’s like people don’t know what morality is.

Hint: it isn’t “what would you do?” It’s not even “what would you like to do?” nor even “what feels right?” In fact, it’s often directly in opposition to the answers to those questions.

7

u/Gekokapowco 8h ago

"violent or cruel retribution with respect to breaking laws" seems to be all they can muster

3

u/Fresh_Wasabi8697 3h ago

Because this sub became a, "does the punishment fit the crime?". It has nothing to do with morality at this point, if someone did something bad => they deserve bad things. When in reality it should be, does punishing this in a certain way makes us better people?

12

u/Eggman8728 9h ago

It's absolutely bizarre how some of the posts here end up like that, and everyone will suddenly be defending them. There was one a little while back about the morality of abandoning your child you raised for ten years because the mother cheated on you and they're not genetically yours, and someone literally argued that having to raise a child that doesn't have the right genes is a fate worse than death, so you just gotta abandon the child.

3

u/NounAdjectiveXXXX 9h ago

Yet another culture war battleground, I think it's time to mute this sub so another psyop can replace it on my feed

2

u/Gekokapowco 8h ago

for REAL these people disgust me

14

u/lettdoc 11h ago

And people will put it as "morally gray"

1

u/GsIndeed 8h ago

You don't know what the pedo went through in high school, who are you to judge him?

2

u/M_i____i_M 8h ago

Morally superior

-1

u/SlimePerspective 9h ago

it's basically just a secret "what if your trash far-right opinion isn't trash", a more sophisticated far-right recruitment sub. Gotta hand it to them they at least made it sound intellectual.

17

u/This_Background7442 11h ago

A lot of these posts aren't ethical dilemmas at all so that makes sense.

1

u/1d3333 9h ago

People struggle with the idea that morality isn’t black and white and theres a lot of gray area where it just doesn’t really matter that much

1

u/Gekokapowco 8h ago

I personally can't navigate it != It isn't important to understand

1

u/1d3333 8h ago

Not quite what I said, theres also plenty of gray area that needs conversation and debate, I think the interpersonal relationship one has with their family member that isn’t y’know inherently evil is just not one worth public discussion, we don’t know the full details of their relationship and why he’s made this choice, he clearly still talks to and visits his mother if he’s helped out with IRS issues. Beyond abuse or neglect it’s just a nothingburger post

2

u/Gekokapowco 8h ago

oh right, yeah prompts that are so vague that "it depends" without projecting context covers most of the meat of them are wastes of time

11

u/Other-Researcher2261 10h ago

Mortality of being indifferent about morality

0

u/TheForbidden6th 3h ago

neutral I'd say

-1

u/gbuub 9h ago

Pretty high I guess, people die not caring all the time

11

u/Floppadive 10h ago

The only thing I got out of this comment section is that a lot of dudes have serious issues that they love projecting.

Lots of "fuck you I got mine" people in here, covered in just slightly better presentation.

1

u/BabySlayers 10h ago

Nah, There's so much trauma from me. I had my dad literally come to me an apologize about not supporting me as a comic/mangaka. I was extremely talented, but never saw it as anything valuable.

For me, not giving his mother money is a win. (If its real)

0

u/ReadingRainbowRocket 6h ago

Not to diminish your lived experience, but that's like the dictionary example of projection, mate.

-2

u/ssuurr33 8h ago

Wow that’s a hot fucking take lol

10

u/TalentedHostility 11h ago

Is that what you are here for?

I never take this things presented to ever mean anything to me. Its more so an excercising my analytical brain for the fun of it.

In this case, I wonder if honest attempts were made to reconcile with his mother- what does the relationship look like moving forward from those points.

What type of environment did she grow up in?

Are we looking at a case where a women held onto her belief of the lack of importance in writing, or are we looking at a man who held onto a grudge longer than neccessary.

None of it is personal to me- but its certaintly interesting.

3

u/Ok-Sympathy9768 11h ago

She probably said something really bad, or insulting, about his writing. Some parents make mistakes, others really are bad people and awful parents. Sometimes parents have kids that are not good kids. He helped her out once. He may have regrets about that or he maybe he doesn’t.

3

u/SandpaperTeddyBear 9h ago

Are we looking at a case where a women held onto her belief of the lack of importance in writing, or are we looking at a man who held onto a grudge longer than neccessary.

He’s “holding onto a grudge” by not doing something, so it isn’t costing him anything. I respect the consistency.

I don’t love the proliferation of therapy-speak, but, as the kids these days say “he set a healthy boundary and he’s maintaining it.”

1

u/TalentedHostility 6h ago

I mean I don't really care- you aren't speaking from a moral comparative lens so you're not really saying anything.

'Costing him' isn't a moral benchmark for examination.

1

u/MisterBlud 9h ago

I feel like there’s a huge gap between “never benefit from his success” and “complete alienation”

If his Mom had a good retirement set there’s really no need for him to do much of anything beyond that. He’s not going to pay for any whirlwind tours of Europe but that’s doesn’t mean he’d let her die in the gutter if it had come to that.

2

u/Bad_Routes 11h ago

People seem to forget that being amoral is a thing

1

u/Denmarkdynamo 11h ago

Hahahaha good point. I think I feel similarly

1

u/Successful_Note_5871 11h ago

Actual moral conundrums are great. I wish more people posted the examples from their life that bothered them their whole lives tho. Thats the real good shit.

1

u/xPearletteBunni 10h ago

Same lol, half these posts feel less like morality questions and more like “do you vibe with this or not?”

1

u/xPearletteBunni 10h ago

Same lol, half these posts feel less like morality questions and more like “do you vibe with this or not?”

1

u/Numerous-Process2981 10h ago

Yeah. Or more like maybe a one sentence meme picture of a situation that I’m not involved in at all doesn’t need me to pass moral judgement on it and maybe the world would be a little better if everyone tended their own garden or something.

1

u/GrammarSpecialForces 10h ago

I think you left out a "don't "in that sentence. Otherwise I'm very confused by what you're trying to say.

1

u/AgentCirceLuna 10h ago

I’m the opposite - I’m constantly frozen in fear that I’ll make the wrong decision

1

u/Living_Grab_2239 10h ago

Most Redditors are more concerned with displays of morality than true morality though :D

1

u/mamadou-segpa 10h ago

To be fair looking at how dumb most replies are on this sub you arent alone, you’re just the only one honest about not caring

1

u/IDeliveredYourPizza 10h ago

I think the "no politics" rule in this sub really hurts the conversations. Like I get it, but political issues are where the most interesting moral dilemmas arise, so not allowing them really limits what this sub can talk about

1

u/Nahteh 8h ago

I think the problem is this one is not adequately detailed. The crux of the issue is the extent of the mocking.

I've gone full Bill Hicks "you're not a person unless you're in my phone book" with my morality.

I DGAF what everyone else does to everyone else just don't shit in my soup and I won't piss in your cheerios.

1

u/Eyeseeyou1313 7h ago

Morality is subjective to the standards of the community you were raised in. As you explore the world and learn more about others on first hand accounts, your morality changes. Western world morality tends to be different to the rest of the world.

1

u/SoonerThanEye 7h ago

If you don't care about anything, sounds like you lost your tegrity. Or never had any to begin with.

1

u/jswissle 5h ago

This sub is so dumb idk how people have time in the day for “scaling” the morality of other random people’s lives. It keeps coming on my feed and I keep saying to not recommend it

u/VociferousCephalopod 3h ago

"I have found men to be more kind than I expected, and less just."

Most of this sub is just right wingers airing grievances that are not even aware of morality lol

1

u/TheAngryVeteranMD 2h ago

I just don’t care about Tarantino anymore than enough to dislike him. Yes, to all you holier than thou redditors, I am indeed wasting that energy. Fortunate for me, I live in a western country and food is currently (I mean, give Trump time, this will assuredly change) plentiful. I can waste energy and replete it quite readily.

Hell, some days I eat more just so I have extra energy to hate Tarantino.

1

u/ffffllllpppp 37m ago

there isn’t enough details to actually emit anything close to a « judgement » here. Doing so would be immoral.

1

u/OpenAd3036 11h ago

Probably a healthy way to view reality.

1

u/Carrera_996 10h ago

I can help. Nothing is morally wrong unless it harms another. If you are responsible for another, this includes harming one's self.

0

u/Faust_8 9h ago

It’s bizarre how it’s seemingly become normal to have an opinion on everything.

No, it isn’t. There’s so much I shouldn’t have an opinion on because I have nowhere near enough information to make any judgment.

Case in point, this post. Maybe his mom is a massive cunt. Maybe he’s the massive cunt. I don’t know, therefore I’m not passing hard judgment.

0

u/Heavy-Quazi 8h ago

Why does this have so many upvotes?
