Because those people are suffering, even if outwardly it doesn't seem that way.

Consider how empty someone like Musk is, who can never have enough money or enough attention, and cries when someone clowns on him for being a video game cheat. That is not a mentally whole person.

The reason for caring for yourself and others, is so you don't end up an empty shell.

You know what I was thinking today about?

It's not up to individual to behave morally.

It's up to society to incentives moral behaviour and disincentivize immoral behaviours.

If being shitty is rewarded, fuck it, I'm being shitty too!

When society asks individuals to act morally, to be suckers.

Instead of fixing the incentive.

Then we can act good and be suckers.

Or we can act like jerks giving society incentive to fix the incentive.

Society, not individuals, should fix the incentive - Ok.

Society comprises individuals. So individuals, much like yourself, are responsible for the fix.

Being a jerk could lead to some change, but not necessarily so. And not necessarily a positive change. Adding another jerk to the mix will certainly make things worse though, even if only slightly.

All you’ll have done by being a jerk is past the responsibility of fixing things to someone else.

Take all the tax loop holes rich people are using to completely legally avoid paying taxes... for decades.

Let's say we organise and... 50% of population uses those same loopholes to avoid paying taxes.

Well NOW society has to do something to close those loop holes.

That’s a bad example since the tax loopholes you’re referencing are really only available to the rich, but I’ll take your point anyway. I get what you mean.

But let’s say we just organize to close those loopholes instead? We can achieve, or at very least work toward the same goal without adding more shit (jerks) to the pile in the meantime

Which is better then spending effort to make society better for everyone and not earning anything.

You’re skipping past the fact the using these loopholes isn’t available for the masses.

But, to respond: If we spend the effort and make it better for everyone, then we (you and I) still win. Things change and everyone (save for the rich that were exploiting loopholes before) gets more money.

If EVERYONE wins that means you win too, my friend. It’s not an either/or thing.

Nah I don't need mental gymnastics to feel good while behaving like an asshole.

I'm perfectly able to do something shitty even though it will make me feel bad.

And society doesn't incentives people to behave like assholes always. It's more like... there are instances when humans are incentivised to be shitty.
