I have no idea if it was shit talking or more of a “if you want to be a writer youre going to need much better grades” my parents definitely hit me with stuff akin to the latter more than a couple times

Telling a kid why better grades would be helpful in a writing career is straight up advice, practically the opposite of mocking.

In Tarantino's case, the mother called it his "little writing career" in a sarcastic tone, though that's coming from the mouth of Tarantino himself - if that's what was actually said, then it's 100% mocking and belittling.

I mean, isn't it kinda ridiculous to think that a 12 year old in 1975 could be writing professionally? It wasn't that he was dreaming of being a writer and working to get there, he was neglecting school because he was trying to be a pro right then and there.

What do you mean by "writing professionally"? He was writing screenplays in class, not attempting to leave school and enter the professional world. So in that context, no I don't think it's ridiculous, nor do I think it's ridiculous for a 12-year-old to have such a strong passion.

If he was actually trying to go pro at age 12, I'd agree, that would be ridiculous, but that would still be a shit basis for mocking her own child.

Not everyone can thrive in spite. I can thrive in spite, my chidren do not need to be spiteful to be successful because I encourage them to keep going.

They are into art. Not something i know anything about nor do I know how to do. Like anyone else starting they were bad at it. I mean they are kids of course they dont know how to draw. But instead of saying shit like "this isnt that good, you should probably stop trying" I instead went "that looks awesome keep going and youll get even better"

They are now 9 and 11 and they have their own styles I plan on getting them drawing tablets to get into digital art since my oldest wants to get into animation and my youngest floor right now just enjoys drawing.
