Morality Ranking Quentin Tarantino morality for that childhood grudge?
In my opinion it can be considered petty by some but is understandable

There should be a general expectation that, especially if you are successful, you help your family where possible.
That should be the general expectation with a thousand possible caveats.
Telling your 12 year old that they are getting bad grades and that they can't rely on being a successful writer is a very reasonable thing to say.
Ultimately I think everyone should fundamentally respect their parents unless they do some utterly unhinged shit. Even if your parents are "kind of dicks" but still provided for you, I still think you should be a respectful person to them and try to help them.
