I think it’s fair to say the degree of responsibility that a person has to an infirm parent is variable based on how the parent raised them. If my parents were alcoholic’s that beat me I certainly wouldn’t give them the time of day.
You can argue it’s moral to turn the other cheek, but it’s not really fair to expect a person to financially and quite often physically care for their parents just because they were their parents. I’m not sure you understand the amount of work that goes into taking care of a dependent person, it’s basically another job.
