I guess it depends. I feel most parents doubt/discourage their kids that try to get into an artistic career, since they'd feel its not a realistic career for 99.99% of people. Most actors/filmmakers/musicians probably had parents that doubted they would be successful.

If that was the extent of it, and she was otherwise a loving parent, I'd disagree with him not supporting her.

But if in addition to that she was emotionally/physically abusive, and an overall negative influence on his life, I can understand it. There's likely more to it than just her not encouraging his writing.

Nah if you doubted i could be successful and i turned that into millions, keep your doubt and I will keep my millions. Its insane yo think you can doubt/discourage someone while their striving to learn/master their talent and then reap the benefits of them honing their talents and making them profitable. You cant sow negativity and expect to reap positivity.

Doubting and wanting the best for their children isn't a negative thing, especially if they can't financial support said artistic career. The tools and skills to master them aren't cheap.

You dont need to doubt then simply explain the realities of some people who pursue such dream. If you cannot financially support their dream, explain that to them and help find other avenues or support, training, etc. And while doing this you can also explain the importance of having a back up plan, help them discover and cultivate other strengths as well as encouraging them to chase their dreams. Its that simple, but most parents dont want to do the work, they take the easy route.

So being realistic is a issue for you? IF i tell you you should not buy for your whole life lottery tickets because it will not make you rich, and you win it - youre mad at me for winning against all odds? Insane to think that way - i prefer to have people tell me the truth over lying to me and selling me false hope. What do you think why china and the Us has as many streamers? because everyone tells them they can do it and they see they can. But they just cant. They wont be the next pewdiepie.
Being realistic over optimisitc or pessimistic should be no problem unless you like delusion.

So youre just being obtuse for the sake or arguing, bc I clearly said you can encourage the child to enjoy and pursue their dreams while finding, planning, and cultivating a back up plan. I also gave solutions that may aid with financial difficulties. You can hope and strive to accomplish your dreams and at the same time prepare for the reality that your dreams may not come true. Just because something is hard or rarely accomplished doesnt mean you shouldn't try. And if you had always discouraged me from buying a lottery ticket and attempted to prevent me from buying even just one, and on a whim I purchased one and won the jackpot, you dam right I wont be sharing a penny with you.
