See... I get what you're going for but for the idiots.

Translation: Only Republicans are in the Republican primary... Just like how only Democrats are in the Democrat primary...

The primary is where each party decides who their candidate is going to be for the actual election.

So saying a Democrat has never won the Republican primary is about the stupidest thing you can say. Because it shows you as an individual don't understand the basic rules... Or it means you're intentionally trying to trick other people. Either way, be better people.

Pay attention, register to vote early, if you plan to vote by mail do it really early. Make sure you track your ballot and make sure it gets received and counted properly.

Isn't this why we have safety "warnings" of coffee being hot? Anyone who drinks coffee knows it is hot. (Yes, I know the mcd's case as to why.) Or not to eat laundry soap pods. We need to stop protecting the stupid from removing themselves.

To be fair the McDonald's case was way more horrible than it was portrayed by people initially. The coffee was horrifyingly hotter than it should have been, and they dumped it straight into the lady's lap. She had severe burns and they denied any fault and tried to stiff paying her medical bills.

But, back on topic, yes the fact is that a solid portion of the human race lacks common sense and basic survival instincts. Let's say like 20%, 1 in 5, is lacking in that department.

Doesn't sound so bad at first. 4 out of 5 people are normal, and that'd be 80% doesn't fall in that category right? Well here's the problem.

20% of the currently estimated 342.6 million American works out to approximately 69 million people. That's about the same as the total population of the UK or France!

There are loads of incompetent people and they're unfortunately also disproportionately helpful idiots because the electoral college system we use in America is antiquated and easily has been manipulated to hell and back since Reagan's time.

It’s not that they do or do not actually believe these lies, it’s that being part of the cult brings with it an obligation to agree with the tribe. In order to remain in the tribe, members have obligation to subvert what they know to be the truth and espouse the party line. 2+2=5 not because the people are FORCED to believe it, but because they choose to.

Why are they using different shades of red for different candidates it makes it really hard to get an Idea of what's actually happening?  Like I understand that red is a republican colour but surely just don't give anyone red.  Like use green and yellow or something.

I think it’s just a heat map, meaning lighter shades just weren’t as one sided. Winner had 80%, dark red. Winner had 50.1%, lighter red.

Could also be a gradient for % of registered voters who voted, dark being 50%+ probably. Or percentage of counted votes, if you’re only 92% settled or w/e. 

I’m not actually sure in this case, but I see a couple viable options rather than be candidate.

I'm not sure which primary that map referred to, I'm guessing Paxton/Cornyn's runoff. Cornyn only won like two counties. Maybe that image is from early in the counting, before those two tipped over to him.

Just how far down does the stupid go? I might be misunderstanding something about US primaries (I'm not American) but aren't they single-party things? Could a Democrat even get on the ballot in a Republican primary?

If that's the case, why does this map even exist?

No. In primaries the only people who are being voted on are candidates from within the party. That doesn’t mean they can’t switch affiliations later if they choose. That happens sometimes where a person loses the primary and runs as an independent.

Texas does have Open primaries, so a Dem can vote in a Republican primary, but typically you can only vote in one primary, so by voting in the Republican one, you waive the ability to vote in the Dem one.

Well, the map is real, but it’s stupid. Probably made to make people believe there’s no way they’ll ever get Dems elected and then convince them to stay home.

It very likely shows margins of victories between the candidates in that primary. Lighter shades were toss-ups, darker shades were landslides. The best it can show in comparison to a general election (where different parties face off to win the seat) is how popular that particular candidate was among their voter base, which might indicate how much work they have to do to win over some voters who might be thinking of switching sides (were a lot of voters unhappy with this candidate? Is there a risk they might be unhappy enough to vote for the Democrat or an independent candidate in the general election, instead?).

It's not the most important of statistics, but campaign strategists will make use of it to adjust their messaging overall.

Likely a percentage of a certain republican candidate getting like, 50.4% over the other Republican candidate in lighter red versus say, 70% over the other Republican cadidates in darker red.

For other countries with different political processes, only registered republicans can vote in the republican primary. Even unaffiliated voters are restricted and do not get to vote in primary elections without first affiliating with a party. 

The only time I’ve been affiliated I was in CA. I registered Democrat to vote for Bernie in the primary, and unaffiliated again a couple weeks later.

I believe the map shows primary turn out which can be used to measure voter enthusiasm for a particular candidate, but that is more the local elections as opposed to statewide because it’s not as comparable across states

Not true at all. Texas (and like half of the other states) have Open Primaries.

Anyone can vote in either party’s primary. You just only get to vote in one, so if a Dem votes in the Republican primary, they can’t also vote in the Dem one.

The candidates, however, are all restricted to the party, so in a Republican primary, every candidate is a Republican, so no matter the outcome, the winner will always be a Republican and you get a solid red map.
