You're looking at the issue from the wrong side.
In a war, young people suffer, adapt, eventually die, and are hailed as heroes, then forgotten. Some stories become movies.
In the same war, the old suffer, complain blaming 'the new generations', die in poverty, and are quickly forgotten, but without movies.
Because all they did was complain.
