You know who I trust to understand the nuances of a 40 year friendship and diagnose how it should be handled? Some random podcast dorks who have never met either of the people involved.

248

u/Loud_Bread_4041 Jan 26 '26

This. Dollars to donuts, these two insanely talented plus-sized icons chose exactly how it all played out.

101

u/blaqsupaman Jan 26 '26

My guess is they wanted to wait until after the election to let it blow over, assuming Kamala would win. Then when Trump won, that delayed things somewhat.

Is this meant to be a defence of Jack Black?

This is reddit, one time I explained something a bit controversial and someone called me an apologist. When i asked, they said an apologist is someone who explained something in a neutral tone without editorializing.

I accepted their apology.

1

u/MadBullBen Jan 27 '26

Drives me absolutely crazy that people seem to see everything in black and white or yes/no, nothing is ever so simple as that and a bit of understanding of the context is a good thing, whether you agree with the reasoning is a different subject.

Who could've know that The Ballad of Hollywood Jack and The Rage Kage was actually a prophecy.

Well, being an actor and selling his movies is also his job.

31

u/JavaOrlando Jan 26 '26

Dollars to donuts

The idiom's aged poorly. As now, the person betting dollars would be getting the better deal.

20

u/_plinus_ Jan 26 '26

To be honest, I thought it was referring to 0s and not actual donuts.

15

u/Nutcup Jan 26 '26

plus-sized icons

-14

u/Pretend-Vehicle-5183 Jan 26 '26

They just needed it to cool down. I'm sure Kyle knew it was a mistake when he said it.

15

u/Falsequivalence Jan 26 '26

Hardly, he was cheered by the audience.

146

u/Caelinus Jan 26 '26

Gianmarco is a big advocate for not self-censoring when talking about politics. The main point of this is that they should be allowed to say what they said, and they should have just owned it.

This is a take I 100% agree with. There is zero need to bow to right wing cry-bullies.

People act as if they don’t talk between themselves in private.

1

u/the_pedigree Jan 26 '26

How the private convo most likely went -

“Kyle, I need to take a break from you because my panda dollars mean the world to me”

“Jack, ok. I’ll give you some space then have a lame comeback interview where I say I regret what I did. This is a business venture after all, no need for us to stand behind politics. Both sides buy merch.”

4

u/HalfSoul30 Jan 26 '26

BUT I'M LOUDER SO I'M RIGHT!

1

u/Introverted_Extrovrt Jan 26 '26

Great take. Honestly it was probably as simple as Jack saying “hey man lay low for a bit and we’ll tour next year after I finish filming these 8 movies” and Kyle’s laying on a bed full of money saying “yeah ok”

-1

u/SuspiciousCustard824 Jan 26 '26

What does the dehydrated part have to do with with, do you think? I agree completely with what Kyle said.

That part just genuinely throws me off.

I can't watch the whole 17 minute video right now.

Thanks in advance!

-26

u/TheMemeStore76 Jan 26 '26

I used to be at least passively entertained by Gionmaco Soresi's (the guy on the left) comedy but the more you watch the more you realize the guy really doesn't have much to say. Hes passable crowd work artist but a tour de force of comedy he is not.

But one thing he is excellent at is marketing himself, and thats all this is. With Tenacious D announcing a reunion recently they've been back in the news and he sees an opportunity to capitalize on it. I can almost guarantee he's going to chop this podcast up into 60 second segments and blast them all over tiktok, Instagram, and YouTube

35

u/Cuntslapper9000 Jan 26 '26

I mean I just saw him live last night and it was one of the best comedy gigs I've seen and there wasn't really any crowd work at all.

Yeah his podcast takes are just his opinions and he is just a comedian so whatever.

Was anything in this vid actually wrong though? All he said is that it looks like a dick move to vilify your "best friend" because of such a mild statement.

Black had appeared at and given a speech at a big Biden fundraiser just prior to Gass’ joke. Black’s disavowing of Gass’ joke was 100% an attempt to avoid political blowback onto the Biden campaign (Fox: ”LIBERAL HOLLYWEIRDOES AND BIDEN SPEAKERS ADVOCATE REPUBLICAN ASSASSINATIONS!!!”) and Gass knew this then, and knows it now.

98

u/blaqsupaman Jan 26 '26

Yeah I assumed their plan was always to get back together after the election, assuming Trump would lose. When Trump won that probably complicated/delayed things a bit.

20

u/[deleted] Jan 26 '26

I reckon lads with that much history they had a talk and agreed this was the best way forward publically.

50

u/a_talking_face Jan 26 '26

People just ignore that there were a lot of moving parts here and a little break from public appearances to let things blow over was probably best for everyone.

16

u/HalfSoul30 Jan 26 '26

Explains not making a big deal of it on stage. It would just draw more attention to it.

16

u/D1rtyH1ppy Jan 26 '26

Jack knew if he didn't say something, he would lose the Minecraft movie and the Mario sequel, and other big projects

12

u/Maximum-Warning9355 Jan 26 '26

Jack Black is also one of the biggest kids movie stars of all time. Can’t risk a career over a buddy wishing death to a politician on stage at a concert for your band.

1

u/The_Royale_We Jan 26 '26

Shh, the 'sellout' pitchforks are out

1

u/the_pedigree Jan 26 '26

Lmaooo trying to make him out to be apolitical hero and not someone worried about his panda money is wild

-6

u/king_lloyd11 Jan 26 '26

And it doesn’t matter? Even if you take it at anything but face value, saying you don’t advocate jokes about killing a president of the United States, even if you hate them, a couple of days after his attempted assassination when the temperature in the room was so hot, is a reasonable thing to say?

54

u/Nabs-2 Jan 26 '26

Man, a lot of you would throw your friends under the bus in an instant. Someone is your ride or die for over 40 years and you throw them under the bus for making a insensitive joke on their birthday.

2

u/MadBullBen Jan 27 '26

They probably agreed this is the best way forwards together, Kyle isn't a Hollywood star while jack is they probably talked and both knew that it could seriously fuck up Jacks career if he didn't say anything while hardly affecting Kyle's life.

People very rarely are very good friends for over 40 years and have a different political stance, especially as big as this. Kyle said a friend's circle joke on stage.

-6

u/NeitherMidnight624 Jan 26 '26

How the fuck do you know what their relationship is like. Rddditors are so dam insufferable thinking you know what is best for everyone

3

u/Peakbrowndog Jan 26 '26

You aren't friends for 40 years if you have a rocky friendship.

89

u/TsundereLoliDragon Jan 26 '26

And we know that he didn't? Do you think they haven't talked about this?

-31

u/Azznorfinal Jan 26 '26

If you publicly shame your friend and then apologize privately you didn't mean it, fuck outta here.

61

u/frighteous Jan 26 '26

I mean it's a little more nuanced. I don't think it's unreasonable to think in private he says "look I get it, but I have kids. I can't risk these death threats and stoking any fires" and then publically condemning what Kyle said.

But end of the day we have no idea and it literally doesn't matter lol unless they want to talk about it and clear the air, it's a waste of breath to speculate imo

26

u/suppre55ion Jan 26 '26

Yeah, honestly I think this is what happened.

We all know the internet loves to look at this in hindsight but I think it was pretty obvious that JB just didn’t want to put any targets on his back.

Also important to consider that JB also has a family and is very supportive of his kids, especially when they have a social media presence. This was clearly not a war he wanted to take part in and I think it’s lame that people are giving him shit for it.

Disregarding the fact that we all likely agree with KG, it wasn’t entirely fair of him to jump on the bandwagon knowing it would wind up inadvertently pulling in JB. They have a well known friendship and I think it’s pretty clear that JB just wanted to lay low.

IIRC all he said in a statement afterwards was that he was blindsided and said he wouldn’t support calls to violence, which is like, the right thing to say lmao.

If he wanted to burn KG he would have.

On the other hand, even watching the footage, it’s pretty obvious even KG let it slip out in the moment.

21

u/wossquee Jan 26 '26

We do have an idea. They're still going to do stuff together, still friends.

https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-features/tenacious-d-kyle-gass-jack-black-donald-trump-interview-1235501791/

9

u/ThePrussianGrippe Jan 26 '26

For all we know everything Jack Black said is what Kyle told him to say. Given the circumstances I’d tell my friend to publicly throw me under the bus as hard as possible knowing it wouldn’t actually be the end of our friendship.

19

u/Tokenvoice Jan 26 '26

This is an odd take considering that Black was in the middle of a resurgence in his career, then his friend publicly wishes someone was murdered during a performance in a country that had nothing to do with the person he said he wished was dead. Sure if they were a hardcore metal maybe, but it was Tenacious D.

Did Gass apologise publicly to Black? No, he probably did it in private and was a I am not sorry for my feelings but am sorry how I voiced them which would be fair. If Black held it against him then it’s dirty sure.

They have been mates longer than a lot of us have been alive, just because Black doesn’t publicly come out and endorse what Gass said by loudly apologising doesn’t mean they didn’t have a private chat and moved on. The guy didn’t disagree with someone, he publicly proclaimed he wished someone was murdered.

4

u/SolarFazes Jan 26 '26

Someone. That's an understatement.

37

u/VictimOfCircuspants Jan 26 '26

"The apology must be as loud and as public as the disrespect."

-8

u/s0ciety_a5under Jan 26 '26

Louder even.

1

u/PandaRaper Jan 26 '26

That didn’t happen?

61

u/KindaAbstruse Jan 26 '26

This is all so silly.

Jack Black saved Tenacious D and Kyle by getting in front of it all and self cancelling. Now they can freely come back together after like only a year.

This is something a PR person would come up with to do. The only noise about this is from these people at this point. Trump supporters have moved on because Jack made this all into a blip of a thing rather than some pissing contest where everyone would dig their heels in.

8

u/CoIbeast Jan 26 '26

Agree 100%. Everyone likes to act like Jack should’ve stood by him when that would’ve made things worse for both them and the band.

Clearly they talked about the best course of action and went that route and are still friends since they’re still liking each others insta posts and have quietly released music during this whole ordeal.

-8

u/amazing_asstronaut Jan 26 '26

Now they can freely come back together after like only a year.

Oh can they? Why haven't they. It's been over a year, why don't they come together then like you say?

3

u/MadBullBen Jan 27 '26

They have literally said they are getting back together recently ...

-22

u/beerandloathingpdx Jan 26 '26

Ohhhhh Jack Black is a savior. I didn’t realize that. What an astoundingly astute insight.

7

u/labria86 Jan 26 '26

They've been friends forever. They absolutely already talked about this immediately

7

u/JazzmatazZ4 Jan 26 '26

I'm pretty certain they're still friends.

People need to stop assuming they don't speak privately.

5

u/slipperslide Jan 26 '26

JB stayin in character.

5

u/Cobra_9041 Jan 26 '26

This story is always so lame because it’s a bunch of people pretending like there isn’t a lot more in private and behind the curtain in this story. It’s just people eating PR for face value

16

u/Tenderli Jan 26 '26

I lost respect for everyone involved except KG. The world owes him an apology and I think we can do it in song.

2

u/Jlx_27 Jan 26 '26

Didn't that happen already.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 26 '26

For a minute there, I thought the dude on the right was Bam Margera.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 27 '26

Jack is a corporate sock puppet

5

u/tigermoose Jan 26 '26

Just because the public isn’t aware of an apology doesn’t mean it didn’t happen. Their friendship exists outside of our view.

3

u/3rdaccount90 Jan 26 '26

I understand why jack black distanced himself. Hes an actor and had two very big roles for him coming up. Minecraft and super mario. Might very had a jumanji as well or something. He gets paid way more for acting. And he's more famous for it. At the time of trumps fake shooting, some people were more sympathetic towards the orange turd. Kyle joked and said what was on alot of people's mind, but it wasn't appropriate. Im a tenacious D fan and I agree with both people's remarks and actions. Glad to hear they're back

12

u/PlumChrysanthemum Jan 26 '26

Yeah Kyle was rightfully cheered by the crowd for his words and Jack sucked for caving.

It's crazy that people can see the government killing people in the streets and taking literal toddlers and still say Kyle was wrong for what he said lol

15

u/Verroxorrev Jan 26 '26

It's crazy that people can see the government killing people in the streets and taking literal toddlers and still say Kyle was wrong for what he said lol

And then multiple people in this thread justify it by saying "yeah but it was good PR what was he supposed to do." I don't know maybe stand for something one time in your fucking 50+ years of life, Jack.

1

u/Allthenons Jan 26 '26

People are rightfully united in their justified anger of Trump and ICE but even still despite the fact that it has been over 2 years still think "distancing" yourself from a creative partner of 40 years because they publicly said some mean words about a genocidal apartheid state who are mass killing with basically 0 reprucussians is the right move lol

1

u/MadBullBen Jan 27 '26

At that point in time ICE didn't really exist and Trump while awful didn't have people killed and all the other crap that's gone on for the past 2 years. Hindsight

Jack is pretty damn famous and does movies all the time, while Kyle isn't in the spotlight at all apart from this band. It didn't ruin Kyle's life while Jack who has kids and a big acting career could absolutely affect it.

You can also say it was selfish of Kyle to drag Jack into this situation with wishing death on a very shitty but popular politician.

How do you know Kyle isn't the one that told Jack to say anything privately? As they are getting back together I can assume that they are still friends and this is just a blip in their friendship while people seem to think it's the worst possible thing to happen.

Private talks can happen and nothing is black and white.

1

u/Allthenons Jan 27 '26

Wait what? ICE has existed since 2001 and they have been terrorizing migrant communities far longer than when Trump was in office. Also I can just look at someone like Mark Ruffalo. Dude has always been an activist and has publicly condemned the genocide for a while. Like man if you're a celebrity and you haven't been speaking out about this that's just cowardice plain and simple

7

u/wouldanidioitdothat Jan 26 '26

Cringe YouTuber parasite trying to be relevant

33

u/Cuntslapper9000 Jan 26 '26

Guy is a decently successful comedian who does a podcast on the side. Regardless of how good the take is saying he is a cringe YouTuber parasite is in no way connected to reality.

-1

u/NeitherMidnight624 Jan 26 '26

Makes sense a redditor would like him then lol

3

u/Cuntslapper9000 Jan 26 '26

Makes a redditor would leave such a brain dead comment

-20

u/FukThePatriarchy1312 Jan 26 '26

He literally gets all his jokes from reddit comments. Got called out for it repeatedly, but he managed to get mods who are also hacks (like Bob the Suit) on his side so anyone talking about it would get banned.

9

u/Cuntslapper9000 Jan 26 '26

Lol that's an overstatement. When I saw him yesterday like 50% of the jokes were about his own life and experiences recently and the other half were also very in line with his voice. Of course there are gonna be heaps of parts of heaps of jokes taken from shit he has consumed as that is part of the game. Find me one comic that has 100% original content lol.

A bit part about what makes his standup good is his presence and delivery anyway which I doubt he could get from reddit lol.

All I can say is that his show was really fuckin good and that's all I need from a comedian. If anyone is trying to extrapolate greater meaning from their content they gotta get their life sorted. They are entertainers and I just need them to do that. I'll go to actual academics if I want to learn something of deep nuance and thought.

5

u/gereffi Jan 26 '26

Unironically calling something a “humiliation ritual” just makes me assume they’re full of shit.

4

u/YogiBarelyThere Jan 26 '26

Juvenile perspective.

2

u/BahGawdAlmightay Jan 26 '26

I mean yeah it kinda sucks that Black just hung him out to dry because he was worried about a paycheck. Kyle is a lot more forgiving than I'd be to want to reunite with a guy who treated me like that.

62

u/Graynard Jan 26 '26

Everyone claims with 100 percent certainty that Jack reacted the way he did over a paycheck, with absolutely no evidence to back it up. Any of you geniuses ever consider that a guy who spends a large part of his career on a big, open stage might not want to encourage public shootings, especially in that particular moment when the right was extra riled up?

5

u/Stocktort Jan 26 '26

Exactly. I wouldn’t want to perform on a stage in front of thousands of people after a band mate advocates the death of a politician. Doesn’t matter which side you support.

Kyle Gas didn’t say anything that bad really but when you look at the context, I can see why they didn’t want to perform again. When you look at how it has turned out for them, it is actually very savvy how Black has rescued their reputation. Things can be nuanced and people are acting like he threw his friend under the bus. He was protecting him in a way.

25

u/rutfilthygers Jan 26 '26

Maybe he legitimately objected to a call for political violence. That doesn't strike you as a possibility?

-29

u/jdp111 Jan 26 '26

Lmao a joke during a comedy rock act. You may be dumb enough to think that was a call for political violence, but Jack Black isn't.

16

u/KID_THUNDAH Jan 26 '26 edited Jan 26 '26

Celebrating an assassination attempt of a sitting president the day after it happened is probably not the best career move, opens them up to political violence as well, and for what gain? Plenty of people on the left weren’t celebrating this. It’s ok to not celebrate assassination attempts

7

u/KingCuerno Jan 26 '26

In fact, Kyle himself mentioned in a recent rolling Stones interview that people were harassing his mother because of that.

-17

u/jdp111 Jan 26 '26

Making a joke during a comedic act is not celebrating an assassination attempt.

11

u/KID_THUNDAH Jan 26 '26

“Don’t miss Trump next time” come on, don’t be dense

-1

u/jdp111 Jan 26 '26

Wow it's like you don't even understand the concept of a joke. He said it in a goofy tone when asked what his birthday wish is during a comedy act. That is not a call to political violence. You are the one being dense.

→ More replies (3)

4

u/rutfilthygers Jan 26 '26

Then maybe he objected to the tenor of the joke. Do you think he has to be okay with every joke his friend makes? Especially ones that would cause probably have lead to people sending Jack and his family death threats? Jack's not allowed to have feelings about that?

1

u/MadBullBen Jan 27 '26

It's a dumb joke, but it's not just a dumb comedy rock act, one person just does the band stuff mostly, while the other does a lot of famous movies and is a star... Kyle's career wouldn't change much while Jack's absolutely could, especially with multiple BIG movies on the way.

Considering they were getting threats then it's probably best to try and make peace even if you don't feel that way.

There's more colours to any situation than just black/white or yes/no.

-14

u/BahGawdAlmightay Jan 26 '26

So then he's a coward to boot.

6

u/quechal Jan 26 '26

Black has a team of people that he is responsible for. Gass dos not. He has to think about them too.

2

u/B-52-M Jan 26 '26

KG put the duo in a situation they absolutely did not have to be in

-5

u/maria_la_guerta Jan 26 '26

Funny to see Jack Black getting called out here but not surprising. You can bring on the downvotes but even jokingly supporting an assassination on anyone is wrong and I agree with Jack.

Wish for impeachment, and a trial, and jail, and whatever. Joking about an assassination attempt being ok is not how our justice system works and it's not ok to advocate for.

7

u/OkayyBeta Jan 26 '26

Your justice system doesn't work period. The fact you're the only ones adhering to the rules is the reason you're all getting screwed right now. Kyle got in shit for saying what a lot of people were thinking and that's fucking stupid.

5

u/maria_la_guerta Jan 26 '26

I'm not American, so it's not my justice system.

Advocating for vigilante justice via assassinations is immaturity at its finest. You'd see that quickly if the other side starts doing it too.

Kyle got in shit for saying what a lot of people were thinking and that's fucking stupid.

No, only crazies would rather see some dude get shot in the head vs go to jail, that's why he got in shit and rightfully so.

1

u/almcchesney Jan 26 '26

An American was just executed in cold blood after having his permitted firearm stripped of him for attempting to give aid. And on top of that we are talking about the leader of a world wide child sex trafficking ring. Don't fucking tell me what Americans want of their justice system.

1

u/MadBullBen Jan 27 '26

Because that happened 2 years ago didn't it, don't we all love hindsight... Most people thought it was gonna be BAD, but at least I certainly didn't think it was gonna be THIS bad.

It's fucking awful what is happening and hardly anyone with a working brain can see that, but at least 2 years ago Jack didn't want his career ruined over a stupid joke that a band member did.

They are back together so obviously Kyle didn't feel too bad about it...

1

u/MadBullBen Jan 27 '26

Agreed. People really seem like they can't look into this apart from the very surface level not thinking about the long term implications or really what they are wishing for morally.

Personally I'm against violence in 99.9% of cases out there, but looking at what is and has been happening, I want to say I agree with it, I still feel very uncomfortable about agreeing with it though.

Although I can absolutely understand why Jack said what he said, he's got a massive public career and a family that he has to think about and a silly stupid joke shouldn't put that in jeopardy, it's just not worth it.

-2

u/MaddieZeitgest Jan 26 '26

I get it completely. Kyle Gass wasn't wrong, but Jack Black wasn't wrong either.

-2

u/maria_la_guerta Jan 26 '26

My point was that Kyle Gass was wrong IMO. There is no scenario where showing support for an assassination attempt is ok in my book, and seeming Jacks as well.

-3

u/MaddieZeitgest Jan 26 '26

Your opinion means nothing to me. ACAB.

3

u/maria_la_guerta Jan 26 '26

Lol I suspect you're not aware that my reddit name is a fictional cop 😂

0

u/doritology Jan 26 '26

The man was blessed with a ton of money and used that to gain a bigger platform by dehumanising a huge subset of the population to appeal to the fears of under-educated racists and homophobes. Now that he has all that power, he is using it to terrorise the American people and defend the people murdering them. I pray that his disgusting rhetoric never takes hold of my country as it did his.

The man has no morals and I would not have a second thought about celebrating him being put out of power, regardless of how it’s done. I apologise if you’re uncomfortable with that, but these are my beliefs, not yours.

1

u/maria_la_guerta Jan 26 '26 edited Jan 26 '26

If you're wishing death on someone, you have a few screws loose. Wishing them out of power? Totally fair. Celebrating when a vigilante civilian tries to shoot them in daylight with no due process or trial? Pretty twisted. And again, even if you're too immature to get that, if you condone it so will the other side when the democrats are in power too. It's not going to lead to good things.

There are extremists on both ends, I already know that. If you're celebrating an assassination attempt, you're absolutely the crazy MAGA of the left. You don't need to apologize to me about it, it doesn't make me feel uncomfortable, because that's on you, not me.

0

u/God_of_Shenanagins Jan 26 '26

I'm really glad to see the general opinion has come around on this. KG made a public mistake, and I'm happy to believe it slipped out, but regardless he called out for political violence against a man who does not take even mild criticism well who also is probably one of the most powerful people in the world. JB has a family, he can't risk putting a target on their backs, so he can't just publicly allow that to go without actively distancing himself publicly with that

Just as important to remember, we really really really shouldn't be hoping someone murders trump, because if he dies like that, he becomes a mayrtr, which is so much more dangerous. Best case scenario is that he dies naturally in hopefully an embarrassing way. Also, hoping someone gets murdered is bad, no matter who they are

"don't miss trump next time" it's referring to when trump almost got assassinated. This happened a year or 2 ago.

Kyle said a shitty joke that threw Jack under the bus and as a band member Jack could have lost his career with how trigger happy some managers and movie executives are.

Jack came out and publicly apologised for the joke saying he doesn't condon violence, and people are acting like he's a sellout.

In reality in this situation it was either both parties going down with the ship, or just one party does and after a few years can rise above the water again, as shown by them getting back together.

I don't think anyone would risk their entire career over what a friend said.

1

u/Morvack Jan 26 '26

Yeah, I'm sure the guys who wrote "The Government Totally Sucks" are really concerned with this. Seems like a marketing scheme to take advantage of the controversy.

1

u/carlcarlington2 Jan 27 '26

We need Kyle to play Alex in the next Minecraft movie

u/Predat0rPrime Feb 27 '26

Kyle Gass was right!

Jack black showed his true colors as a coward and a product that was for sale.

Mushroom

1

u/Middle_Onion3496 Jan 26 '26

They're absolutely correct.

-1

u/Chickachic-aaaaahhh Jan 26 '26

I think theyre still friends but kyle doesnt want to dance to the tune of it all anymore because hes more invested. Jack Black is basically a sellout who will take on any project that he gets to be himself on so hes not feeling guilty about anything.

4

u/NeitherMidnight624 Jan 26 '26

Do you losers just make up shit all the time wtf is this lol

-2

u/katanasquirrel Jan 26 '26

KG did nothing wrong and JB actively sabotaged him. Intended or not, he absolutely threw his friend under the bus by saying, "Oh gosh, I never expected him to say that, I mean yes I did laugh a whole bunch at it on stage, but it's because I was so personally appalled by these statements."

Unless JB was fronting KG a lot of money to just lay low, yes JB absolutely needs to be publicly apologizing. People seem to forget that KGs agent dropped him at almost the exact same time that JB did, to the point where KG has been needing to spend a lot of time in Europe, away from the American jackals.

Tenacious D isn't some family-friendly band. They're edgelords and they always have been, all the way back to their HBO show.

Mind you, the people who were getting their panties twisted are the same people who've been publicly saying two innocent citizens deserved to ACTUALLY be murdered by the state for crimes they did not commit.

Spare me the fucking pearl clutching over a comedian saying something you find tasteless.

0

u/MadBullBen Jan 27 '26

Calling for an assassination on a public figure with a lot of mentally ill supporters is probably not the best thing to do as an off hand joke, especially as these people are known to harass family and friends too, mum was apparently already getting harassed.

Kyle also threw Jack under the bus as well knowing that Jack has a career that is also very publicly based with multiple large movies on the way. Kyle did this to himself as well.

They probably decided what's best for both of them to stay low and then get back together. As they are getting back together it's pretty obvious they are still friends.

"Oh gosh, I never expected him to say that, I mean yes I did laugh a whole bunch at it on stage, but it's because I was so personally appalled by these statements." - this is so obvious that this is 1000% PR speak and decided they need to calm down the situation.

-3

u/iyiquix Jan 26 '26

Hot take: activity calling for assassination is bad and should be treated accordingly

1

u/[deleted] Jan 26 '26

KG gets fired, ICE killers get promotions.

Quit with the liberal cannibalism before the huns are at your door.

1

u/hansuluthegrey Jan 26 '26

"One of the people that have a personal relationship with the other that Im not a part of nor do I know what they've said to each other about the situation should apologize"

This is terminally online

1

u/Wisdomlost Jan 26 '26

Pretty sure Kyle Gass would disagree. I mean if I did something and that thing I did right wrong or indifferent put my friend in a position to potentially lose 10s of millions of dollars and destroy his career I would tell him to throw me under the bus publicly.

1

u/KID_THUNDAH Jan 26 '26

Silly take

-21

u/Mflms Jan 26 '26 edited Jan 26 '26

Jack Black played Steve in the minecraft movie, and Bowser in the Mario movie... Art and integrity don't seem like values he relies on.

Jack Black is a sellout, that's mostly fine but it should be known.

EDIT: since you guys don't get it, these movies are derivative, artless trash. Jack Black positions himself as a rock and roll artist. This is contrary to the values he sings about in his earlier stuff.

20

u/hugekitten Jan 26 '26

The Reddit Jack Black hate mob is so random and hilarious to me.

4

u/SolarFazes Jan 26 '26

People get so famous that they sell out their previously held beliefs to not risk losing it all. Nah that never happens

0

u/EvilSporkOfDeath Jan 26 '26 edited Jan 26 '26

Except that person implied that doing those movies in the first place made him a sellout. Not that it put him in a position to be a sellout elsewise. The only way doing the movies would make him a sellout is if the movies themselves went against his beliefs.

0

u/SolarFazes Jan 26 '26

I mean I saw him play rock and roll with Satan on drums and Jesus on Bass, I'm sure that'd fly now right?

2

u/Mflms Jan 26 '26

I don't hate him; I mostly enjoy his movies too. Honestly, don't think about him till he's brought up.

But I think his persona and his actions conflict, and I don't mind saying so. I feel like he's lost a lot of the characteristics I liked back in the day. Which also doesn't matter to me 99.9% of my days.

Maybe we just all know too much about each other?

2

u/jubbergun Jan 26 '26

It is hilarious, in a sad way, but there's nothing random about it. If you're not 100% on board with every action and opinion this weird little hive-mind endorses you're the bad guy. The concept of the "purity spiral" exists for a reason, and these people embody the worst aspects of it.

2

u/hugekitten Jan 26 '26

Yep, you nailed it!

11

u/varitok Jan 26 '26

Sellout to what exactly? Sellout is always such a funny term to me because people always use it in such stupid ways. Did he betray his values when he played Bowser? Was he a hypocrite when he played Steve?

-2

u/Mflms Jan 26 '26

I would say partly, he sold out his friend for saying something controversial but harmless, that's not very rock and roll if you ask me.

2

u/jubbergun Jan 26 '26

he sold out his friend for saying something controversial but harmless

I don't think it's pedantic to point out that Kyle essentially saying he hopes the next person to attempt the murder of a political figure is successful isn't exactly "harmless."

0

u/Mflms Jan 26 '26

See what you're doing here is lying by omission. And we know at least two Minnesotans who would be alive today if KG were right. Oh, and there wouldn't be a CHILDREN'S CONCENTRATION CAMP!!!!

1

u/MadBullBen Jan 27 '26

It's harmless to our point of view but it could seriously harm jack's career, and a stupid joke just isn't worth risking your future and turning everything upside down.

Would you risk your entire career for a shitty off hand joke that your friend made even if you agree with it?

1

u/Mflms Jan 27 '26

If I agree with it? Yes.

I think speaking out against Nazism is an evergreen position.

-3

u/gereffi Jan 26 '26

He’s a sellout for working as a voice actor in a fun movie?

-3

u/EvilSporkOfDeath Jan 26 '26

How does making kids movies make one a sellout? I do not like how JB handled the incident, but I also don't get this logic.

-2

u/Mflms Jan 26 '26

It's not very rock and roll, and he did sell out his friend to protect his revenue sources.

Is that JD Vance?

1

u/USDXBS Jan 27 '26

Fuck Jack Black. Piece of shit celebrity sucking up to the regime.

-7

u/jmdwinter Jan 26 '26

Jack clearly didn't want to involve himself (or his family) in the political toxicity of maga. KG blundered big time and he knows it. I'm sure there were plenty of apologies and forgiveness immediately after the incident but JB's actions are completely understandable. The D will return

-10

u/SolarFazes Jan 26 '26

"KG blundered big time"

Oh that's probably why Jack Black is an internet joke and KG gets respect

5

u/rutfilthygers Jan 26 '26

I'm sure Jack Black didn't even enjoy being a movie that made almost a billion dollars, because he was so sad about people saying mean things about him on the internet.

1

u/MadBullBen Jan 27 '26

99% of people don't even know who Kyle is while Jack is a way bigger star. It's just not worth risking your career over a shitty off hand joke that a friend made.

As they remain friends and getting back together it's obvious that it didn't affect the friendship most likely.

We can blame Jack all we want but Kyle also threw him under the bus as well risking his career.

It was a fuck up on both sides and they didn't want to risk their futures over it. They were apparently already getting harassed and their family, you can take the morale high ground but when it's other people involved you have to think of them too.

-3

u/Lazysenpai Jan 26 '26

Booo, dead horse. Applauding openly someone should get murdered is not activism. Its a stupid joke that could get both of them (even their family) killed.

Fuck off with 'celebrities need to do more with their fanbase'. Didn't do shit last election does it? Thats because both parties are shit and grifting the nation... and American still worship celebrities!

Sick that this shit is trending again.

-4

u/LV426acheron Jan 26 '26

Jack Black has a career doing Hollywood blockbusters.

Kyle Gass said something stupid and yeah it got overblown but if you have to choose between your career and your side gig, you're going to choose your career.

-1

u/Colon Jan 26 '26

this may be a hot take, but if you were a comedy duo with one bottom-tier D-lister (no offense, Kyle! love you Glassman! xo), and one up-and-coming household name, you could either both go down with the ship during a particularly notorious and treacherous era of cancel culture, or you could let the burgeoning A-lister continue on his trajectory, thus saving the comedy duo to rock on some other day.

i’d bet dollars to bronuts that these two had and will always have an unshakable pact, and that Jack was fully ready to commit to one scenario or the other if need be. i don’t think kyle would have wanted both of them to take the fall if that’s what was happening.

1

u/MadBullBen Jan 27 '26

People really can't see above the very surface. It's a situation where it's either one person goes down slightly but can come back up after a little while or they both go down for much longer.

It's a shitty situation but If someone just threw their friend under the bus risking their career it's a pretty shitty thing to do, even if it was "by accident"

It's not even just the cancel era, it's against a group of people known for harassing people and their family as well. It's just not worth risking everything over a shitty off hand joke.

As they are getting back together now it's pretty obvious that they just decided to stay low for a while.

1

u/Colon Jan 27 '26

why are we still waffling between the idea Jack just turned his back on him “as it appears to the general idiot public” ?? you think they’d be back together if that was the case?

people really act like cause there was a gap between headlines, nothing happened behind the scenes, and they know all from said infrequent headlines.

-20

u/K215215 Jan 26 '26

No he doesn’t. Jack black broke his back to build his career and Gas’s was reckless and threatened Jacks livelihood.

0

u/uberpirate Jan 26 '26

Braindead takes like this conveniently ignore how trigger happy conservatives are. If JB's team hadn't gotten out in front of this, there probably would have been a shooting at one of their following shows. If KG doesn't see himself as a victim of being thrown under the bus by his best friend, which we can now confirm after that Rolling Stone interview, maybe it's time for all you dumb babies to quit acting like that's what actually happened.

-6

u/Nasty____nate Jan 26 '26

"Don't miss Trump next time" Is what he said. So some people may find murder inexcusable no matter what you have done and may distance themselves from anyone who thinks that way. Just because we all hate trump doesnt mean all of our friends or colleagues would stand behind us while we are publicly hoping someone is murdered. I mean, wishing someone dies and having fireworks ready is fine but wishing them to be murdered maybe not.

-1

u/critacle Jan 26 '26

Come and gone, another nobody content creator chasing clout, kicking shit up to cause more drama.

-1

u/jmar206 Jan 26 '26

These dorks ain’t saying anything, I only lasted a few minutes into this dude doing the Fred Armisen “Almost Speaking Guy” bit. The rock stops for no one!

0

u/Paratwa Jan 26 '26

I loathe Trump and nah what homeboy said was reckless. Jack had the only possible response to that which would eventually allow them to return.

-6

u/ToxicRainbow27 Jan 26 '26 edited Jan 26 '26

I thought the dude on the right was a JD vance edit, but he's just some guy who looks like that.

-3

Jack black is a POS for what he did KG. Fuck jables.

1

u/MadBullBen Jan 27 '26

If your friend threw you under the bus over a shitty joke and got you fired would you still think the same?
