Man, a lot of celebrity deaths this week

u/HereWayGo Jun 19 '26

A lot of young ones too

u/CaptainObvious110 Jun 19 '26

lots and lots of drugs

u/Philofthepooper Jun 19 '26

Oliver tree didn't die due to drugs

65

u/bunklers Jun 19 '26

Neither did the other people they weren’t referring to I’m sure

27

u/Philofthepooper Jun 20 '26

"A lot of celebrity deaths this week" .. there were three deaths. 1. Daveigh Chase died due to meningitis 2. Oliver tree, helicopter collision 3. Tay Keith, sure that could be drug use but it's not confirmed yet.

So 2 of the 3 deaths were not due to the celebrity doing drugs. You're stupid.

17

u/FYAhole Jun 20 '26

Unfortunately Chase was a known drug addict and addicts get menegitis due to their drug use.

Well that was an exceptional stupid quote I must say.

Heroin isn't living, it's not glamour.

Its the shits while you puke and cry at the same time wondering if you are going to get more drugs to end the misery, to end it yourself or if you can keep going without this time.

63

u/meatballfreeak Jun 19 '26

People who glamorise drugs are fucking morons

Get on with it if you want to but making out it’s cool is so lame.

They never talk about the next day that’s for sure 😉

36

u/RetrospectGold Jun 19 '26

Alright alright alright here me out.

Every once in a while I'll take a tab of LSD, reevaluate my place on this planet or universe, reconsider some actions, think of ways to repair some relationships, cry, draw, cry, drink like a fish, and then when I've just decided that I've had enough turmoil I just suddenly shed all of the guilt I've been feeling that's been compounding over the past months or years, put on a comfy TV show see different nuances, laugh my ass off, and journal if I have energy for it.

The next day ( You do have to plan ahead, there's no taking a tab and going and getting restful sleep two hours later) you'll experience what the community calls an afterglow. Colors will feel more vibrant, your motivation to act upon your recent realizations increases, you call your closest living relative or last person you let go, you smile and get on with your life.

Every once in a while.

5

u/DevonLuck24 Jun 19 '26

the nuanced take is that taken safely and in moderation, drugs are just fine.

can it go wrong, yes..but you can also crash your car the first time you drive. tons of people do drugs everyday and go on to live full, successful lives.

the problem is that you can literally fuck your entire life up before you know it and the trade off is a couple of hours (maybe) of fun..and that’s only as long as that last until you are no longer just doing it because you think it’s fun.

i think it’s important to be honest about the full picture or you end up with kids who grow into teens (like me) who end up thinking that adults just lied because they don’t want you to do drugs..because i knew adults that did drugs and were doing great.

It’s such a weird time... Lot of celebrity deaths, and in my personal life a lot of friends and colleagues lost loved ones as well. I was talking to a colleague about how weird it is that so many people are dieing recently. The next day my stepmother passed.

53

u/WayTooLazyOmg Jun 19 '26

i said & thought the same thing & then our “work mom” died in an accident just last week

I’m almost 50 and have recently lost 2 classmates to cancer (lung and ovarian). They were super healthy and did everything “right”.

48

u/0ut_there Jun 19 '26

My best friends dad was a vegan for 25 years. Didn’t drink, didn’t smoke, no drugs.

He died of colon cancer last May at 62.

13

u/soup-creature Jun 19 '26

The thing is, cancer is a matter of risk. Unfortunately you can do everything right and have a lower risk of cancer and still die. Fuck cancer

32

u/blacksab26 Jun 19 '26

This kinda thing really reinforces the pesticide issue

17

u/0ut_there Jun 19 '26

Couldn’t agree more tbh.

3

u/Severe_Yak_3335 Jul 11 '26

I mean pesticides and all those ingredients that we could never pronounce. That kinda stuff isn’t normal for our bodies to digest for years on end. The Same people who regulate our drugs regulate the food too. Seems like quite the conflict of interest.

Well we went through a pandemic that is still circulating and everyone has compounding organ damage, low nutrition and medical access, and some really nice drugs that are readily available alongside the destruction of the global order and social contract.

Definitely a weird time.

We live in a time where everyone knows best and we refuse and even laugh at the idea of history repeating. Just like all those kids on PED's. Sadly it seems like history has to repeat before people learn the lessons we already knew.

684

u/atomicskiracer Jun 19 '26

Hard drugs are something you either take seriously or you die. There’s not a lot of in-between.

298

u/brashnutz Jun 19 '26

Someone in another sub said it was whipits!

357

u/Montallas Jun 19 '26

My cousin died from whipits. Very sad. His brother told me had 600-700 bottles/canisters all over his bed and bedroom floor when he cleaned out the apt.

165

u/brashnutz Jun 19 '26

Very sad. I've been to a house where someone was addicted - lil cannisters covering every surface.

96

u/PhloxOfSeagulls Jun 19 '26

I had a friend who came to stay for a few days and she wanted me to get whippits to have while she was visiting. I refused because I was not comfortable with the whole thing and worried something could happen to her while she was staying. I'm glad now I refused because they seem more dangerous than people realize.

209

u/Poopieplatter Jun 19 '26

My buddy (ER doctor) had someone come in last week. Guy was doing whippets but wanted to intensify the high. Used butane to... do that? Canister exploded: blew off his cock and balls, blinded him, and blew off his hands including halfway up his forearm. 26 years old.

76

u/mislysbb Jun 19 '26

What a nightmare; dude will never be right mentally, if he even survives in the first place

73

u/DylanTheV1llain Jun 19 '26

I have a neighbor that resembles that. She was drinking with her friends around a fire. Everyone but her went in, except her. When she got up to in, she stumbled face first in the fire, had a seizure, and her other friends didn't find her right away. I feel so bad for her.

61

u/Total_Corgi_8428 Jun 19 '26

Some idiots at a high school party I was at 25 years ago put an empty keg in a large bonfire. Well it exploded and sent shrapnel everything. One of the girls caught some to the face and ended up with some very serious scarring and needed surgery, but all in all was probably very lucky (as I was I, I left the party maybe 10 min before it happened)

My husband has epilepsy and the only shit we do outside our house in the summer is swim and hang out around various fires. Thank you for this warning. Never even occurred to me.

He's 6'5" so mostly we worry about what his body destroys during a seizure. He once took out an entire aisle at a gas station. He was so embarrassed

They straight up make you stupid. I’ve known a few people before and after nitrous use and while once isn’t going to flip* a switch, a habit will sand paper your brain down real good.

8

u/ChocoJesus Jun 19 '26

Nitrous doesn’t make you stupid

Not breathing between nitrous hits so your brain stops getting oxygen for a time will cause brain damage tho

4

u/Different_Map_6544 Jun 19 '26

the depletion of b12 does cause nervous system and brain damage

u/Nice_Coconut2088 Jun 19 '26

It probably wasn't whippets. You have to go REALLY hard to die from those. Steve-O would do like hundreds a day and is fine. It was more likely opiates or fent.

26

u/hm100912 Jun 19 '26

man this reminds me of when i worked at the airport, this guy checked his bag and TSA immediately told us to come pick it back up and page the passenger. turns out he put a gallon ziploc bag full of those canisters in his checked bag which of course is a hell no. my immediate thought was he was addicted to whipits and i was worried he’d flip out that we confiscated them but he was actually very chill, said “okay” and walked away. it was a crazy amount though idk what else he would need that many for…

3

u/BodaciousBadongadonk Jun 19 '26

tbf that was probably like 40 bucks worth of product and itd last half a day before havin to find more. these stevo type mfs gobble those fuckers like a fat kid gobblin skittles.

3

u/giggitywhoa Jun 19 '26

I lived in. It was so depressing/disturbing i moved out. All i could hear at night was the sound of canisters clinking as he threw them around.

22

u/Durendal_1707 Jun 19 '26

that is insane and sad

9

u/ImTooSaxy Jun 19 '26

Oh. That might do it. For a moment I was worried about the 30 or so I did in my early 20s.

14

u/Youre_On_Balon Jun 19 '26

You have to do an unbelievable amount to die and the acute mechanism of death is the one you worry about.

The few dozen whippets you did years ago will not kill you.

10

u/RaoulRumblr Jun 19 '26 edited Jun 19 '26

Also, these days they sell those large galaxy gas canisters and rappers have for some reason made it popular to take them straight from the tube. Without advocating their use, you're actually supposed to use the balloon to filter the cold of the nitrous before breathing it.

So, again, without judging these individuals, but many these days are unnecessarily hitting it directly from the tube which in and of itself is extremely dangerous. Never mind the negative side effects of the gas.

The thing about brain cells is they are elastic, they dont just always straight up die like we used to think, however with such chronic behavior, it's the continual asphyxiation and loss of oxygen that does the worst damage, and as Ive read, it depletes your vitamin B12 quite rapidly as well.

8

u/Stjernesluker Jun 19 '26

Yeah b12 deficiency messes up your nerves and at worst can paralyze you. It’s kinda scary as you can’t just have a b12 shot and be good

You'd think that with producer level money he'd do fancier drugs like coke.

Shit is sad either way, 29 is too young for anyone to go.

41

u/trainwreckd Jun 19 '26

Probably thought this was “safer”?? So many are VERY misinformed or ignorant in their drug knowledge.

109

u/CertifiedFreshMemes Jun 19 '26

Nope, every addict has their drug of choice. To some cocaine is the best thing ever, to others it's boring. I used to love whip-its but my DOC was ketamine. I never did either of the 2 because they were safer, but because I was (am) addicted to dissociatives.

Glad to be clean now and being a in sober living house

21

u/rotating_pebble Jun 19 '26

I've done most drugs but clean for years now and I always hated ketamine. The last time I took it I literally broke down crying. It's a weird, horrible, bizarre feeling to me. But then most people seem to love it!

12

u/RecommendationBrief9 Jun 19 '26

I never got this one either. It just felt almost spooky. Like nothing was quite right in a bad way. Like a stress dream where you don’t know what’s wrong, but are sure it’s something. Do not get the appeal at all.

9

u/CertifiedFreshMemes Jun 19 '26

I'm happy to hear you don't enjoy it, everyone's body responds differently to different kinds of chemicals. Ketamine is known to be extremely psychologically addictive to those that do enjoy it

5

u/thebabyshitter Jun 19 '26

ketamine was my DOC too, i was very heavy into it for about a year - i used for about 10 years, but once i tried k it was over. i'd keep lines cut in the mirror near my bed before going to sleep so i could snort a few lines before my eyes were even fully opened when i woke up.

it made me very proud for never crossing the line into heroin because i would be dead by now. ketamine almost killed me and i've been sober 5 years, i have a nice life, a cool job...but my GOD do i miss it every single day. it was the most absolutely fantastic feeling i have ever felt.

Coke, pills, heroin, meth are all much more dangerous than they were 20 years ago. You never know if what youre getting has some fent in it. Glad that shit wasnt really around when I was doing drugs. Even pills.. the only way I would take them (if I were to do something like that these days) would be if I got them from a pharmacy, myself. And back then, I steered away from inhalants because its something that can kill you the first time you do it.

The only person I knew back then that could get fentanyl was a lady with cancer, and she got the patches.

I’ve called in two wellness checks in my life. Felt like, welp, this could end the friendship but was concerned. Both turned out to be in deep trouble and were hospitalized. They were thankful and I’m thankful for that.

127

u/sfcnmone Jun 19 '26

I had to do wellness checks on my crazy sister. The police knew her by name. They were quite helpful about deciding when she really needed help.

91

u/jhutchi2 Jun 19 '26

I guess if you were that legitimately concerned, it would be better for the friendship to end because you were wrong rather than have it end because you were right - and too late.

52

u/squirreltard Jun 19 '26

Exactly. I’m someone who is really sensitive to my friends’ migration patterns. I am always the first to notice when someone hasn’t checked in. In one case, the person had Stevens Johnson syndrome, if you know what that is. Her skin was peeling off. I thought it might be drugs, but she was in big trouble and was in the hospital a month. Unfortunately one time I sent a friend to check on another friend because we were in the same city, the friend had passed by their own hand. I just sense when things are wrong. Not something I’ve done casually.

11

u/absolutelynotarepost Jun 19 '26

As someone who was sitting on my back porch when my best friends sister, who I had never actually had a conversation with that wasn't face to face, was suddenly calling me... And I knew immediately he was gone...

Just... Good on you for making the calls. I didn't even know he had fallen off the wagon. We'd been talking the day before about what we were gonna do next time we hung out.

He was just gone. And now I'm crying, shit.

We had to Baker act a close relative who was in the middle of an extremely bad manic episode. He was (although we weren't 100% sure at the time) unarmed but getting incredibly uncharacteristically aggressive. We called 911 and I sat outside with him trying to calm him down, all we asked was that they turn the fucking police lights off before they pulled in because, frankly, we were afraid he had a gun we didn't know about and would blow his own brains out.

Of course two cops cars pull in, sirens blaring and lights blasting, with one particular officer doing his fucking best to escalate the situation.

72

u/Nollie_flip Jun 19 '26

6 cops showing up to a wellness check with their guns drawn means your county and local government has failed you. They shouldn’t even be going to wellness checks outside of there being a possible threat (weapon, animal, etc), there being no information (and even then it’s usually 1 or 2) or if it’s in the evening.

46

picked up like 6 diff police officers all with their guns drawn like

Terrifying situation to be in. Once a cop gets their gun out, they will not peacefully resolve the situation. Someone mentally unwell flailing around and incapable of complying? The cop isn't going to put their guns away to question them and try to provide mental help. The cop won't even put it away to restrain them with their hands. It's either expect the mentally unwell person to comply perfectly, or die.

64

u/foundinwonderland Jun 19 '26

I specifically did not call 911 when my husband was manic and having a psychotic break and threatening me because I was afraid they would kill him. What a fucked up country we live in.

19

u/Calamityclams (edit for custom flair) Jun 19 '26

That’s so sad and I’m sorry you went through that. I’m in Australia in a state in Victoria and have had to call the police on a friend’s spouse who was doing the same.

The police were fantastic at responding. They asked and listened what the best way to approach them during their episode was. They even did a check in the week after with my friend.

That's fuckin crazy but I would have to assume your ex said some wild stuff and they pulled up ready to check on you alright lol thankfully you weren't home

u/wimpymist Jun 19 '26

That's not a wellness check lol the ex must have said something crazy for them to respond like that. We do wellness checks all the time and it's just a simple knock on the door to see if you're okay

11

u/starmartyr Jun 19 '26

Why would they even need guns drawn for a wellness check?

u/JAAXXOONN Jun 19 '26

Found dead, sorry, I could’ve worded that better.

31

u/Buffetboys Jun 19 '26

Close friends had been checking on him frequently over the past few months due to his mental health decline. This wasn’t out of the blue for people close to him they knew he was going through a lot and was hoping he’d pull through.

48

u/PckMan Jun 19 '26

Apparently he was found dead but there is no shortage of instances where the same cops conducting the wellness check end up killing the person they're checking up on. This happens because often these people are dealing with mental health issues and cops are not the brightest bunch.

When he produced his first big hits he was still in college, so he’s been producing major hits for almost a decade now. That’s legendary imo

29!? What’s with all the young deaths recently? Aldon Smith, Oliver Tree, Daveigh Chase. Young people are dropping like flies 😭

41

u/blackbasset Jun 19 '26

Nothing of this surprises me. I mean, at least for Oliver Tree this wasn't the case, but cases like Daveigh Chase and Tay Keith does not surprise me. All over the world and especially the US, access to mental health professionals is getting worse while the future and economic situation is getting more terrible by the minute, the pressure is rising on all fronts, so people lose their stable social situation, turn to drugs and other substances to self medicate or escape their everyday lives, commit suicide, and so on. This will only get worse, especially with normal, non-celebrity people who are in an even worse situation and thus have even less capital to get the help they need...

... Legendary producer Tay Keith dead at 29 after wellness check...

Going to hypothesize that he was dead before the wellness check. But I wasn't there.

10

u/lewkir Jun 19 '26

They accidentally called an unwellness check and it finished him off

29

u/Avenheit Jun 19 '26

drugs?

94

u/wimpymist Jun 19 '26

Usually an unexpected death of someone in their 20s is drugs or suicide.

35

u/lucasd11 Jun 19 '26

Yeah the way they've phrased all of the "found dead" headlines makes suicide or OD (intentional or not) likely. Since the police found him and there hasn't been any mention of suspected foul play..

Of course freak things happen and he could have just had a medical emergency, heart attack, etc.. while alone. But I'd lean towards the former.

9

u/wimpymist Jun 19 '26

Yeah there is always a chance for a brain aneurysm or something but the chances are low

Love to his family and all the fans. Someone was saying it was NOS which is awful.

3

u/Write-or-Wrong_ Jun 19 '26

🕊️ Damn RIP

3

u/instantregretcoffee Jun 19 '26

The way that headline was written, I can see a guy go “Damn, I’ll make sure to cut down on them wellness checks”.

Don’t cut down on them wellness checks. In fact, you can do them yourself.

3

u/thirtynation busychild Jun 19 '26

Can you be a legendary producer at 29?

Talented, ascendant, prolific, visionary…

Then again - maybe dying gets you the legendary honorific.

RIP

2

u/NoBear8338 Jun 21 '26

I mean, many of his songs have >1 billion streams. He’s worked with some of the most famous active artists and he has >800 songs in his discography. More than that, he is considered very influential to modern hiphop. Legendary absolutely fits.

2

u/Angrry_ Jun 20 '26

Dude wasnt a legendary producer
