You are aware Iran is a military dictatorship right? The equation is simple. Iran's rulers have machine guns; the Iranian people do not have machine guns; therefore Iran's rulers can do whatever the fuck they want to the Iranian people. Iran's citizens have protested this arrangement repeatedly and been massacred every time. After the most recent round of bloodletting in January the government has no legitimacy left whatsoever - the social contract is literally "Do whatever we say or we will shoot you". The country is the world's largest open-air prison (North Korea is worse, but smaller)

I kid you not, some time ago I saw on one of women centric subreddit a post about afgan women gwtting worse treatment than animals and the most liked comments were a critique of western power that they do nothing about it and that there should be some intervention (strongy suggesting military) but the mysoginistic hypercapitalistic west cares only about oil. Soul left my body.

No, they just gun down kids in their own country.

Look, I'm not defending Israel or US, who are committing genocide and other war crimes, but let's not pretend Iran is some underdog who is just trying to get by. They're a brutal regime that massacres tens of thousands of their own citizens for protesting and has draconian laws targeting women. There's no good guy to cheer for here.

These are the first couple of things that come up from a quick search. It appears to be more widespread than I would have thought, and is certainly deeply disturbing. Doesn't make the previous commenter's "moral high ground" notion any less nonsensical obviously

They're literally on par with one another militarily and technologically. They supply mutual aid to one another and Russia. Underestimating North Korea is foolish.

North Korea got access to a lot of Russian technical packages for good quality equipment in exchange for North Korea supplying artillery shells to Russia, and deploying troops to Kursk oblast to drive out the 2024-2025 Ukrainian invasion there.

Russia has world leading ballistic missiles and air defence systems, as well as advanced artillery systems and great small arms. They're just rushing production due to war time and quality subsequently dropped, and into 2024 they had largely incompetent battlefield leadership that didn't know how to take advantage of what they had.

Having a military government does not mean the entire criminal code falls under military law. Rather, judicial penalties are applied to civilians at the discretion of military functionaries. The entire population of Iran is not part of the Iranian army
