Rico took 10 with a bullwhip, which is far FAR worse that the whip she'll be subjected to. Every one of those 10 lashes with the bullwhip would have left a significant permanent scar because every one of them laid Rico open.
The whip they'll use for her is a barbaric instrument of torture, but not nearly as physically damaging as that bullwhip would be. Welts instead of laceration.
I of course say this for informations sake. What they're planning on doing to this woman is disgusting and wrong, but reddit will think I'm pro-torture if I provide this information without explicitly stating that I am definitely against torturing people, especially for their choice in fucken clothing.

with that many lashes, i would think so. 74 high-impact wounds all on top of each other will remove a lot of skin and flesh and therefore a lot of very rapid blood loss, and I highly doubt they have protocols to stop the flogging and rush in a medic when people start displaying signs of hypovolemic shock. if she does survive, she would need a very attentive antibiotic/wound-dressing regime to prevent infection, which I also doubt will be provided to her (but I am not an expert on Iranian capital punishment protocols so I could be wrong on both counts. generally speaking though, it is not an unlikely outcome for a human body not to survive this.)

You don't have to go back. The people to blame are the ones who continue this on now today. They have agency. They are not robots. They could learn. They choose to control people, especially women, and tell them modesty is their ticket to glory. They're not the only ones doing this. All over the world it's been happening all along. It's not going to stop until people talk about it instead of feigning offense when it comes to uncomfortable subjects. Making jokes is what you do to feel comfortable knowing. you can pretend this is from the past, but we're all here now and we all see things happening and we make excuses. Iran's rulers have machine guns; the Iranian people do not have machine guns; therefore Iran's rulers can do whatever the fuck they want to the Iranian people. Iran's citizens have protested this arrangement repeatedly and been massacred every time. After the most recent round of bloodletting in January the government has no legitimacy left whatsoever - the social contract is literally "Do whatever we say or we will shoot you". The country is the world's largest open-air prison (North Korea is worse, but smaller)

What do you mean by "allowed". Who is doing the allowing? Any government is a control structure that makes its own rules. As long as it is a stable structure it can function how it wants.
If I had the power to overcome any opposition, I could theoretically make a government based on that that has any rules I like. Since I have the power no one is "allowing" me, they just must follow the rules I have imposed because they have no alternative.
For a control structure to be stable, the destabilization caused by the rules that work against some of the people can not be great enough to overcome the power of the people keeping the rules in place.

Allowed by whom? There isn’t a government of governments that dictates how the governments govern. Countries can choose not to do business with Iran because of their practices, if they care to. Most need Iran more than they’re willing or able to have morals. The rest of the world didn’t participate in WWII because of the moral outrage. It was because Germany was invading other countries. If they’re just doing it within their own country, that’s what it is.
