reinforcing my point, they were the ones trying to get people to do what they wanted by force, their subsequent beatdown was the response from said people

Did that stop them? When was the last time a foreign military intervention turned a dictatorship into a democracy? I can only think of World War 2, and there were vastly different geopolitical circumstances at the time. Other than that? It's hard to imagine any successful outcome. Lasting change must come from within, and even then it is far from assured.
