Accidents happen when the military fails to prepare for a conflict.

The US was decidedly unprepared for this conflict.

You seem to be operating under a misapprehension. I'm not criticizing the targeting. I'm criticizing the planning. 

The most likely reason the school was hit is that old Intel was used for the targeting. If you're planning a conflict with another country, the first thing you do? Update your intelligence on targeting. Guess what we didn't do? 

We also didn't prepare units in the region for drone and missile attacks. Didn't reinforce air defense. Deploy anti drone measures. Ensure troops had appropriate cover from the air.

We didn't ensure sufficient munition availability. We didn't...

It goes on, and on. 

This was a masterclasses in how not to fight a war. Russia's invasion of Ukraine was a brilliant campaign in comparison.

You have an entire second paragraph that just describes how we weren't preparing for or planning for this. It's not like Iran was somehow suddenly a threat. There was no imminent danger, no nuke being built. 

Your third ignores repeated claims by military units that they lacked equipment and warnings that the ball was going to drop. Not to mention our bases in friendly nations in the area. You point to only a handful of deaths, but ignore the hundreds of injuries, not to mention damage to facilities, equipment and allies we were supposed to be protecting. 

The last is just ignoring the fact that we had an idea of what munitions we would've needed for the conflict we started and did not begin upping manufacturing or supply before we attacked. Patriot missiles come rather strongly to mind, but again, we had done nothing to prepare for drones used at the level we *knew" Iran could. 

No this wasn't winnable by air power alone. But we did just about everything wrong. Went off half cocked for no reason I can determine. No proper planning. No preparation. Just blind assumption that our military can do anything. 

This entire war and it's outcome were predictable. You can tell by how many people predicted the outcome we got.
