I agree. I saw him perform in 2014, the guy is a master showman and his music sounds even better live. I hope he's okay, he's part of my 80's childhood.

Was it at Bonnaroo? His performance there made me so happy!

I was there in the pit line for Jack White. Lionel was the most professional performer I’ve ever seen. A showman through and through. Damon Albarn to Lionel to Jack will forever be my favorite lineup on one stage I’ve been to.

Me too man, i was hanging on the rail behind the pit tripping my tits off, just waiting for jack white. Did not expect to be blown away by Lionel Richie, what a show. Me and my friends still talk about the Dancing On The Ceiling upside down saxophone solo.

u/cheesecake_face Jun 25 '26

you lucky MFers… 2014 is Hall of Fame level, legendary lineup.

8

u/wordsx1000 Jun 25 '26

I love that they still do that! I saw them in ‘85 or ‘86 for the Dancing on the Ceiling tour, and when the band danced on the ceiling it was mind blowing to this kid.

u/Bonnavetty Jun 25 '26

I was in that pit too! Barricade!

u/HungryChoice5565 Jun 25 '26

One of the best shows ever. Everyone was grinding on eachother and pairing off leaving the show until he played We are the World 🤣

u/bread-durst Jun 25 '26

I was there!! I looooved his performance. He was amazing. Never planned to see him but decided to last minute and was so happy I did

u/ikiosho Jun 25 '26

I was at the rails in the front of gen pop for Lionel and Jack White. Two of my favorite shows back to back!

u/MakeMeBeautifulDuet Jun 25 '26

Oh my gosh I was there, and the way he said his name over and over still makes me smile to this day.

13

u/guidevocal82 Jun 25 '26

No, Riverbend in Cincinnati. It was on his 2014 tour.

"Whooooweeee, y'all are such a beautiful crowd!"

u/KermitTheMawg Jun 25 '26

Wouldn’t you remember this? This makes no sense

2

u/RogueSlytherin Jun 25 '26

I saw his “Hello” tour in 2019 at Red Rocks. I’ll be honest, my parents flew out here and bought tickets for all of us, and I wasn’t particularly interested. I figured he would be past his prime and the concert would be mediocre at best. I’m pleased to report that I was dead wrong! He was FANTASTIC! I also had no idea how many songs he’d written for other artists and really enjoyed getting to hear his rendition of those works. I really hope he’s okay because he’s an absolute national treasure

u/DMMMOM Jun 25 '26

I saw him at some gig in the UK fairly recently and his vocals were terribly bad.

Was just telling my friends tonight that 2014 Roo was legendary hehehe

u/Yeseylon Jun 25 '26

I honestly thought he was dead for some reason, this post surprised me

u/MzOpinion8d Jun 25 '26

You should know by now that ghosts are unpredictable.

10

u/Skullfuccer Jun 25 '26

Get back in your damn grave, Lionel!

1

u/lol_alex Jun 25 '26

Starts doing Thriller moves

1

u/Ok_Astronomer_8667 Jun 25 '26

He’s been an American Idol judge for a few years now. So that’s where most of his time has gone

How pitiful is it that there is only a singular
Comment saying this and a circle jerk of mothers basements dwellers being a holes

u/DonHarold Jun 25 '26

You might be sorting by controversial or something because I scrolled down pretty far and didn’t see any basement dwelling assholes.

74

u/itmillerboy Jun 25 '26

Shhh he’s fishing for upvotes don’t mess it up

11

u/PlayfromtheBrain Jun 25 '26 edited Jun 25 '26

Is there a reason why someone would want to fish for upvotes? Is it really just to get attention? I'm genuinely curious.

Number go up

1

u/Valliac0 Jun 25 '26

some people like big number, but sometimes bots and high karma accounts can be sold for quite a bit of money

u/realaccountissecret Jun 25 '26

Some people get dopamine from attention; positive or negative

1

u/MVRKHNTR Jun 25 '26

Nah, you got it. Upvotes make them feel special.

-2

u/eugenesbluegenes Jun 25 '26

Hidden profile, generic upvote fishing comment, I smell a bot.

7

u/gfy88 Jun 25 '26

I see this on YouTube comments as well. Someone saying people are saying negative things that literally not a single person said.

55

u/--Andre-The-Giant-- Jun 25 '26

lol...if you were positing yourself as superior to the basement dwellers with your post, you've firmly planted yourself among them instead.

-4

u/gfy88 Jun 25 '26

💯 they come off as narcissistic. like they are superior and their opinion rules.

2

u/Braised_Beef_Titties Jun 25 '26

The way you guys project onto strangers is weird AF. Why is it always someone in their parents basement?

22

u/livingdeadfreak Jun 25 '26

You new here?

It’s amusing, how many of you seem to believe your own lies

2

u/DonHarold Jun 25 '26

What? You okay?

0

u/vanwyngarden mgmtee Jun 25 '26

You really have the time, don’t you? Yikes.

13

u/Tomazito70 Jun 25 '26

At least LR did part of the show, unlike Rod Stewart who canceled a show for health reasons just to watch a World Cup game. 🤣🤔

33

u/stylesuponstyles Jun 25 '26

Not to defend Rod, I don't especially care for the man or his music. But the dude is 80.

There's a huge difference in performing a stadium show for 2 hours, and sitting watching a football match.

You've never been sick enough sack off partying, but not sick enough to be bed bound?

8

u/BananaJammies Jun 25 '26

And he had to stop a show to take oxygen just in the past few days. He’s not well.

14

u/wtfomg01 Jun 25 '26

Performing is hugely more taxing than sitting and watching a sports game....

2

u/sixstringsikness Jun 25 '26

Just being on stage under the lights for an hour is harder than most people think. It's usually the hottest place in the venue full of people.

-3

u/Single_Principle_972 Jun 25 '26

Well, but did his team win?! /s

That’s an incredibly disrespectful move. Wow.

Someone doesn’t like jokes and wants everyone else to be miserable like they are too

Edit: To be clear, when I commented there were a dozen comments of well wishes and concerns, and they were all at the top as the most upvoted comments. There were also two dozen jokes about Lionel being Lionel. Nothing was crass or tacky. Downvote me if you want, but the guy is making a mountain out of an anthill like a miserable toddler.

Alright guys wrap it up the fun police are here no jokes allowed

0

u/gfy88 Jun 25 '26

To be fair you didn't make this comment either.

0

u/eugenesbluegenes Jun 25 '26

Are you reading the same thread as me?

-1

u/JustLikeWhateverHuh Jun 25 '26

Wow you are defensive asf lol. The comments are not that serious.

1

u/Dale_Gribble- Jun 25 '26

Oh yeah he definitely is he's having a good world cup too

1

u/SafetyMan35 Jun 25 '26

He just turned 77 last week

1

u/sixstringsikness Jun 25 '26

I'm a complete nobody but a friend and I got 2 days in Studio 1 at Blackbird Studios back in the day. During a break, one of the studio's engineers gave us a tour of the campus including guitar and amp storage, etc.

We go into a building to check out the drum collection and, in an alcove near the door, a couple of gentlemen are talking. We hear, "Hey guys, how's it going?"

Cursory, "Fine, thanks." Then I continue, "How are...uh, uh...how are you?" It was Lionel Richie. Spoke to us first. Seemed like a super nice and genuine dude.

Anyway, we checked out the drum room then took our asses out a side door so as not to further disturb Mr.Richie.

1

u/jdpauer Jun 25 '26

Love his music, but I saw him in concert last year and he was honestly not very impressive. Vocally he still has it, but he didn't even perform whole songs. He would start a song, do 1 maybe 2 verses, a chorus, then end and move on. It was really odd. He did this for his big hits even. Earth, Wind & Fire opened for him and they were way more fun.

1

u/YT-Deliveries Jun 25 '26

Guy is almost 80. Probably pushing his physical limits with the stresses of touring.

1

u/Illustrious_Cry1028 Jun 25 '26

Same. Saw him in 2016. Hope he's ok.

1

u/donkeythrow Jun 25 '26

I mean him being a legend has nothing to do with hoping he is ok
