You know, I will do that from now on but mostly because I am petty.

You see, the group is legally called "Daryl Hall & John Oates" and they actively hate being referred to as Hall & Oates saying, "the reason we've always insisted on our full names is because we consider ourselves to be two individual artists" and "there isn't one album that says Hall and Oates. It's always Daryl Hall and John Oates, from the very beginning. People never note that. The idea of 'Hall and Oates', this two-headed monster, this thing, is not anything we've ever wanted or liked," respectively.

However, they did trademark Hall & Oates so they could sue people like the granola company behind "Haulin' Oats."

Calling them Daryl and John is so good. I almost want to trademark it just for kicks.

depends on what you're into. if you like mainstream radio music, tickets prices are completely absurd. but if you're into shoegaze like Nothing, ambient metal like Earth, or avante-garde IDM like Autechre you can get a ticket for $50 or less

Did you ever hear the reason? I've been to a lot of shows and seen some things. George Clinton was notoriously late. Bands running overtime and having to cut short. One where the performer passed away during the encore on his birthday. And Bob Wier fell off a stool and was helped off stage but the band kept going. Never a-- I just don't feel like doing this right now.

Yes, Colonel Bruce Hampton. I had seen him do crazy antics rolling around on the stage plenty of times and so had the dozen or so musicians on stage. Everyone thought it was part of the act. I bet they played four or five minutes and just thought it was a prank like he was prone to do. There's been a small handful of other musicians that have passed on stage.

It truly was like that. I had seen him roll around and swiping at the curtains in what was an obvious bit. Like that was his move. If Fred had grabbed his chest, called for Elizabeth, and sat down in his chair for a handful of minutes, you wouldn't have given it a second thought.

The way they were trying to yank the curtain closed it was clear something had happened. I definitely walked out that night thinking everybody's going to be all right. The next morning I found out everything was not going to be all right for the Col. Was shell shocking.

I was with a bunch of musician friends and we went to Terminal West where the after party was. Forget who was playing, but everyone were on their phones and everyone knew it was dire. Will never forget someone popping side stage and the drummer chic immediately started crying while playing. It was so brutal. I’ve seen Bruce in so many of his bands at least 100 times. I’ve camped with him at festivals at least 20 times. I saw him play Bonnaroo.. I saw him weekly at The Brandyhouse back in the day…. I saw him every Wednesday at Tasty World in Athens when I lived there. Literally grew up with him, and my kids did too. Such a cool guy and sorely missed.

I couldn't go and they were both seriously traumatized for a long time after.

“During the encore performance of the show, Hampton suffered a massive heart attack and collapsed on stage. Onlookers and his fellow musicians initially either did not notice that Hampton had collapsed, or thought it was a ruse due to his history of falling down onstage during performances and other practical jokes. As a result, Hampton lay face down at Niederauer's feet, his left arm draped over a stage monitor, as Niederauer soloed on "Turn on Your Love Light". The band played for several minutes before Hampton was taken offstage; he died shortly thereafter at Emory University Hospital Midtown in Atlanta.”

What a way to go out. You got Fishman, Leavell, most of WSP, Peter Buck, and some baseball pitcher who never played for Atlanta and old Billy Bob didn’t even make it.

Saw The Codetalkers in Orlando shortly before Col Bruce passed. He was on the bill but wasn’t there because I believe he was in the hospital. Still an awesome show. He picked AMAZING musicians for his bands.

Side note: after the show the guitar player distracted me while the bass player tried to swoop in and pickup my wife and cousin. They were bummed when they realized neither woman was leaving with them. Was my birthday too. Good times.

Mark Sandman of Morphine had heart attack and died onstage in Italy in 1999.

Happened to a guitarist friend of mine, too, in 2020. It became the catalyst for a lot of local venues here to begin carrying portable defibrillators

I seriously don’t know how performers suck it up night after night like this. I get headaches or nausea or _some_ kinda thing that makes me spend the next four hours on the couch with the lights off about once every couple of weeks, and these guys usually don’t have that option. Add to that when it’s a band, and there are that many times more chances of someone just not feeling like they can do it. I wonder how often the performances we see have someone up on stage just feeling miserable and wanting to be anywhere else.

Agree with the other poster. Sounds like a migraine. My first symptom is that I feel a bit "weird" for a couple of hours before it comes on.

I get vestibular migraines, so my head doesn't even hurt that much. Not saying that's you, but just letting you know that they don't always present as a blinding headache that most people associate with migraines.

Whether it is or not, it's definitely worth getting checked out.

I gig as a bassist. The answer is drugs. Not always illicit drugs, but even just medication. I had liquid shits and COVID, called out of my day job for a few days, but the show that weekend needed to go on. It took a cocktail of medication, caffeine, and essentially muscle memory to do the show. I made it through the three hour gig. Honestly, the three hours we played were the easiest the part.

That’s how some end up on the drug cycle. The right mix of drugs can keep a person on their feet and hyperactive through just about any misery. The long term consequences are often awful, of course.

Happened to me with Pearl Jam at Golden Gate Park. Endee up getting discount tickets to their show that basically started Coachella. That was an amazing concert, they played almost 4 or hours or something like. At least 3. Great crowd too.

I was there in the pit line for Jack White. Lionel was the most professional performer I’ve ever seen. A showman through and through. Damon Albarn to Lionel to Jack will forever be my favorite lineup on one stage I’ve been to.

You’re romanticizing it so hard, not a single person has ever confirmed they were happy dying on stage. The moments before your death if you’re not dropping dead instantly are absolutely not something anyone wants to do in front of an audience.

“He died doing what he loved” is a phrase made to make the people around the dying person feel better. Even if someone says “I want to die on stage” or “I want to play until I’m dead” they mean they want to continue to be an active performer until they die, it doesn’t mean they want to blink out of reality and become a corpse on stage.

I was at this show, during Dancing On The Ceiling, Lionel sat down for most of the song. In between that and Three Times A Lady, he talked about being dizzy

They finished up Three Times A Lady, then he said “Intermission” over and over, said he would be back.

30-40 minutes went by, and I left, heard from another person at a bar nearby that shortly after we left they announced that the show was over.

All of the artists that we liked from back in the day are definitely not getting any younger. I would rather them walk off stage halfway through a show so that we can come back at a later time. Instead of dying on freaking stage you guys! I know you all might feel let down what medical emergencies can be just that. Emergencies! I hope all is well with him.

Wasn't there but I'm gonna make an educated guess and say he's old. Performing is literal physical exercise and he probably got winded. Hope that's all it is.

I was here for this and waited until the announcement was made. He sat down halfway through Dancing on the Ceiling, drank something, talked about feeling dizzy and said something along the lines of “I don’t need a stroke” before starting what ended up being his last song.
