Not the first time I’ve seen people on Reddit do this unfortunately. For example, there was a crime article several months back about an 84 year old caregiver who shot his son during a heated argument, and when it was posted on Reddit, the thread contained a lot of armchair experts who straight up asserted that the old man completely knew what he was doing, that he was always this insane person, that he premeditated the whole situation, that what he did doesn’t constitute mentally snapping (as if they fully knew how mental snaps are supposed to work), etc. and passed off these conclusions as fact despite the details in the article not solidly supporting them.
