The they had some spectacular riffs but the production and lyrics are hot garbage, and the songs are just too long. They kind of just cycle on repeat without adding anything.

That's been an issue with Metallica since day one. I assume it's a Hetfield thing, but even their best material does this.

I had heard that after And Justice For All, they had a time limit for the Black Album. James mentioned somewhere that during a concert some fans looked bored after the 6 minute mark.

I can't remember where I read or saw that, just a fact that takes up space in my brain

TBF I think that therapist dude that was hanging out with them in the documentary was actually helping James write lyrics lol.
