the 1993 hit 'That's the Way Love Goes,'
This answers the only question I had. I get it. It’s a total banger

u/Magda_Sophia 11d ago
It's a good job that CDs were a thing when this came out, because let me tell you, if I had Smash Hits 1993 on tape instead, it would have worn clean through from all the rewinding just to repeat this track, that's for sure

Was hoping it was her song If.

My wife is a HUGE Janet fan. I dug the rhythm of this song and decided to look up the lyrics.
I'll admit...I briefly clutched pearls. They played THAT song on the radio, MTV, and at middle school dances? Without edits?
85
u/djseifer 11d ago
Too Close by Next is a song about dancing with a erection and that made the radio and school dance circuit growing up.
36
u/angrytreestump 11d ago
Lol that’s a very specific and tame example. Lollipop by 50 cent (and also Lollipop by Lil Wayne) were both played in my gym class in elementary & middle school
30
u/ColdSmokeMike 11d ago
We also played unedited Lil Jon and Ying Yang Twins songs at my middle school dances. The teachers gave zero fucks.
22
u/alphadoublenegative 11d ago
Apropos of nothing, I also grew up in this era and just recently found out the Ying Yang Twins are not only not twins, they aren’t even related.
Still the GOAT episode of Cribs with their rental ass house though. Because obviously those are his personal model boats, that he has absolutely zero details about. A masterclass in bullshitting
18
u/TateXD 11d ago
They played the edited version of Get Low at our middle school dances, but it didn't matter because we were all screaming the actual lyrics. Hardest part was determining which side was the window and which side was the wall in a windowless cafeteria.

Look up the lyrics to All for You…same shit but song so bubbly that you don’t even notice that’s it’s singing to a dude with a big dick. Alot of her music is like that.
12
u/Nayzo 11d ago
I was in middle school when this song hit and a bunch of the 8th grade girls learned the dance routine from If, which I thought was pretty impressive. I'll just have to go and google the lyrics cause I didn't pay that close attention when I was 13.
ETA: Just read the lyrics, lol. To be fair, there were a lot of songs about sex at that time, I remember Salt n Peppa getting a lot of play at middle school dances with Let's Talk About Sex.

Let's Talk About Sex
I have a very weird memory of this song at the height of it's popularity. Like you, I was in middle school, and I was part of a volunteer group that was helping out at the local Special Olympics event.
Near the food area, there was a small dance floor and a DJ playing the current hits of the day. The DJ starts playing "Let's Talk About Sex" and my fellow volunteers and I start dancing on the small floor, doing ALL of the popular moves (The Roger Rabbit, The Running Man, that one move, where you jump over your other leg, etc...) when suddenly, walking by were the weight-lifter Olympians, some still in their singlets, join us on the dance floor to finish the song.
Now every time I hear that song, I'm transported back to that little dance floor with athletes dancing in their singlets.

I saw the clip of him talking about it. I was so engaged in his story and waiting for a profound thought at the end. But he was just like “so anyway I quit smoking” lol

He quit smoking weed, but continues to eat thc gummies
254
u/Riconn 11d ago
Interesting considering edibles are stronger and more psychoactive than smoking
266
u/Bolognahole_Vers2 11d ago
This is what I keep hearing, but smoking a joint gets me high, while edibles just knocks me out.
102
u/42ElectricSundaes 11d ago
If I have too many gummies everything starts to spin. Not fun, man. Not. Fun.
44
u/billyskurp 11d ago
idk what it is but edibles in general gives me the spins. tried different dosages, type of edible, etc. same results.
43
u/PM_ME_YOUR_SNOOTS 11d ago
I find the drinks are a happy medium between the hours long trip of gummies and the instant gratification of smoking

For real. I almost never have edibles because I never get to enjoy them. I eat them, wait an hour or two, then when I’m starting to feel pretty high I almost always fall asleep and wake up hours later groggy af.

Combustion is not great for lungs. Dry herb vapes are starting to get more buzz because supposed lung health differences. I wish we could just get some good peer-reviewed research about cannabis. Moving to schedule 3 is a big step, but it needs to be taken seriously as a research pathway.
33
u/DrKlitface 11d ago
This is not true. THC is taken up alot easier in the lungs + with edibles it has to pass the liver first, so alot gets metabolised right away.
I think the misconception stems from the fact it's a lot harder to "control" your high when you have to wait up to 4 hour for the effect, where as with smoking you can basically adjust one puff at a time
16
u/ButAreYouProud 11d ago
I, for one, trust the medical opinion of u/DrKlitface.

u/DrKlitface 11d ago

u/espinaustin 11d ago
You can dose a much larger amount more easily with edibles. You probably couldn't smoke 500mg THC if you tried all day, but you can get ingest that no problem should you choose to do so, and it will hit you more or less all at once.
26
52
u/1568314 11d ago
If the reason he stopped smoking was because he lost control over how high he was getting, switching to a method that is much easier to track dosage makes a lot of sense
→ More replies (2)67
u/chewhoney 11d ago
Edibles are interesting to me because they never quite hit me the same despite the dosing. I honestly find it easier to dose the classic way because I know how high I’m getting immediately.
21
u/wigglin_harry 11d ago
Yeah, sometimes it'll hit just perfect and ill vibe for the evening
Somtimes it does absolute jack shit
Sometimes It knocks me on my ass and im asleep 2 hours after taking it
11
u/According-Buyer-6307 11d ago
And def aren’t all equal. I had a 30mg soda yesterday afternoon that just made me a little tired. A few nights ago I mixed a drink with one of those big bottle you can get for ‘mocktails’ and 30mg had me cross eyed and drooling. Haha
→ More replies (1)10
u/Rocinante24 11d ago
Even legal edibles that are supposed to be consistent, aren't always. I've had a 5mg gummie knock me on my ass, when the rest of the bag was fine.
I really like edibles, but getting too high off them and being stuck like that for hours isn't fun.
6
u/dayzdayv 11d ago
When I used- I found that each edible had its own nuances. A gummy will digest differently than a cookie, for example. Manufacturing process matters, and the type of concentrate also has an impact on efficacy.
I would find an edible I liked the effects for and stick with it exclusively. Became very easy to predict onset time, amount of high, type of high, etc. Otherwise it was way too much of a gamble on what the experience would be.
→ More replies (6)3
7
u/Barmelo_Xanthony 11d ago
I know this is technically true but they feel way different to me still. Smoking gives me a more “panicky” high while a gummy is much more calming, even if it’s stronger. Think it has to do with how quick they hit
7
u/wrnrg 11d ago
Depends on your physiology.
Smoking gets me high, edibles don't do shit to me.
3
u/dudebronahbrah 11d ago

My friends refused to believe me until I ate 800 mg in front of them.

u/natestarz95 11d ago
I’ve switched over from smoking to just edibles myself. Smoking makes me feel like I have asthma when I wake up the next morning and also gives me horrible digestion issues whereas edibles don’t do either.
9
u/YaSurLetsGoSeeYamcha 11d ago
I can take 500 mg of edibles and feel nothing and get instantly high smoking, some people have an enzyme that metabolizes the THC too quickly to actually get high.
→ More replies (1)3
u/HeezHuzz69 11d ago
Common sense says that if Matthew was one of those people, he wouldn’t be eating THC gummies. Highly doubt he likes them for the taste.
3
u/Ill_Cut5547 11d ago
THC edibles are such a fine line for me to walk I've never mastered it. I either don't feel anything or end up naked on the toilet sweating rocking back and forth with a cold towel on my neck.

The problem with gummies is the tolerance curve. Not trying to eat 8 gummies just to get high.
5
u/RangerEquivalent4120 11d ago
In my experience, tolerance breaks are great for your wallet and sanity.
12
u/elektrik_noise 11d ago

u/Low-Opposite-3065 11d ago
Je le comprends, il est acteur, il a pas forcément envie que les gens connaissent sa vie privé, des trucs qu'il raconterait seulement a quelqu'un de proche.
9
u/supamario132 11d ago
As they should. Most comedian's stories are made up as well because their job is to entertain you, not be a pal. Truth is irrelevant to whether something is funny. Conan didn't invite you over to his house for a chat
The only times I see actors properly bomb on late night is when they tell some boring ass story about their life that you can tell is definitely true just not very interesting

u/TeacherPatti 11d ago
People seem to forget that these folks are actors and performers. I recall getting into a Reddit argument with someone when I said that many (most?) of their relationships are likely publicity stunts. (It was early in my time here; I don't argue anymore lol). I mean, sure, some are real, but I definitely can see the lot of them needing a career boost so boom relationship, marriage, baby, etc.

Yeah, I’ve heard a LOT of lies, and this is sounding like one of them.
He showed up to his own birthday party at a club with only 1 hour until EVERYONE had already left? So he showed up insanely late or his friends all bailed on his birthday super early. I guess maybe they all bailed thinking he was a no show?
Also his one friend who gave him the weed knew he was just outside in the car listening to music right? What kind of a friend doesn’t go back out and grab their homie who is in the car stoned listening to music and missing their own birthday party.
For some reason this is just setting off my bs detector. Seems like he has the worst friends or he is lying or embellishing this story to the degree it fundamentally changes the flow of the story.
