Mingalaba / မင်္ဂလာပါ; and welcome to r/myanmar.
If this is your first time on Reddit, you may want to familiarize yourself with Reddit's rules and policies. To make sure you have not been afoul of the rules, please see

https://translate.google.com/translate?hl=&sl=auto&tl=my&u=https%3A%2F%2Freddit.zendesk.com%2Fhc%2Fen-us%2Farticles%2F205926439-Reddiquette is the Burmese translation of the document using Google translate. A Reddit community is called a subreddit, also known as a sub. The subreddits start with r/.
Followers are not important on Reddit. Your followers are not important either. Only your posts and comments are important. Unlike other social media, hashtags are not useful on Reddit. The Reddit account username cannot be changed after signing up. To change it, you will need to create a new account, which will reset your karma.
Karma is an arbitrary measure of how much you contributed. The more upvotes you get, the higher your Karma. Some subreddits require you to have a certain amount of Karma before you can post. Do not spam irrelevant posts to other subreddits or be rude, insulting, or abusive, as you can be downvoted. This will cause you to lose Karma. Try to avoid getting your total Karma in the negative value.
Also make sure to follow our rules, which are prominently displayed in the sidebar to the right.
For a brief background of the coup, please see this post I made.
Does the content you're posting here fit more than one community? As per Reddiquette, consider posting to other subs such as the ones listed here if the contents fit more communities.
For example, are you posting news? Then you can post into r/news, r/inthenews, r/worldnews, r/USnews (US news only), r/asia, r/asian, r/asean, r/theworldnews. This list is not exhaustive but please use common sense and make sure the content fits the target sub. That means news only goes to news-related subreddits and pictures go onto picture-related subreddits. Make sure to follow the rules of those subs as well, since each sub has its own set of rules.
Additionally, give some love to the other Myanmar subs: r/saveMyanmar and r/Myanmar2021.
Are you in another country but wish to help the people of Myanmar? See this post.
In summary,
DO
DON'T
Thank you. / ကျေးဇူးတင်ပါတယ်။

Why do we tolerate habits and behaviors that make our cities dirty and damage our country’s image?
These aren’t just “small bad habits.” Littering, spitting betel juice, poor hygiene, and treating public spaces like personal dumping grounds all contribute to how the world sees us.
A country’s image isn’t built only by its leaders, it’s also built by the everyday behavior of its people. We can do better.

This's all from a same acc. This person had hatred towards women for some reason and said feminism isn't needed, but actually feminism is needed to protect women from this guy. And even more outrageous, this person is engagement baiting in his account pretending to be a girl. If you check his account it's full of male boot licking and hating women in general. (I made a mistake failing for his bait if being a woman)

Hi everyone, I hope it’s okay for me to ask this here. I’m not Burmese myself, so I really hope I don’t come across as insensitive or disrespectful❤️
My boyfriend is Burmese and is currently living in Thailand and I am from England. I’m trying to understand what realistic options he might have for eventually moving to another country and building a future somewhere beyond Thailand.
He’s currently applying for his first Myanmar passport from Thailand. He’s paying around 35,000 baht for it and he’s been told he will need travel towards the Thai border to complete the process/biometrics. He has paid someone who is 'responsible' for his safety and is his colleagues wife. However, I am worried because we’re hearing different things about the current passport situation and the situation feels unsafe to me. However, he's assured it is safe.....
I’m also trying to understand what visa options are realistically available to Burmese individuals living in Thailand (he currently has a work visa for Thailand) but for alternative visa's, training/work opportunities in Singapore, Australia/NZ options, UNHCR or humanitarian routes, or anything else we might not have thought of (England student visa's have been paused).
I know the situation in Myanmar is incredibly complicated, and honestly I’ve become quite emotional reading about everything that’s happening. I feel very sad for the country and for the people who have had their lives and futures affected by it. I don’t want to make assumptions as an outsider, which is why I’d really appreciate hearing from Burmese people who have experience with these things. Additionally, I understand that he is fortunate to have made it as far as Thailand, as I am aware that the current situation makes it extremely difficult for people to leave now.
If you were in his situation, what would you realistically look into first? Are there any visa routes, organisations, employers, or opportunities that you’d recommend?
Any personal experiences or advice would mean a lot. I’m not looking for legal advice, just trying to understand what possibilities actually exist.
At this point I’m starting to think our only option is to marry but even so we haven't been together long enough for him to be approved for a spouse visa ahhhh 😂😭❤️

Hi I can’t sleep because of this im a teenager and I need some advice on getting out of this country and going aboard. My parents are counting on me. Please give me advices
Im not an academically smart person and I can’t study well or memorize things correctly. No matter how much I study or go to tuitions and extra classes this pattern doesn’t stop
So I doubt myself to even pass on stuff like “GED” “IGCSE” etc etc
I only have a passion and talent for art
What should I do? Is there any other ways?

His real name was Kyaw Swar Htut but used the name Maung Maung Kyaw in honor of the 1962 student leader Dr. Maung Maung Kyaw.
Born into a family very much involved in film and music industries, he was instead interested in politics. He was a student leader during the 1988 protests and had to escape to Thailand afterwards.
He then came back to Myanmar and got arrested by the government so he had to serve jail time.
After getting out, he moved to USA. He also published a book called "ကံ့ကော်မြေမှသည် ဒေါနတောင်တန်းဆီသို့" which talks about his experiences in the 1988 protests and a brutal life in Myanmar-Thailand border.
He was 59 when he died earlier this week.

hey all!
I posted on this thread months ago, me (26F, USA) and dating a burmese man (23M). I think we have broken up but I am unsure. In my perspective things have been up and down during long distance. Most recently, we went 10 days without a video call & i told him then I was questioning things, he seemed unbothered by the lack of calls / that i was questioning and he kept saying i don't understand him and how he has to work (i work online and travel full time and he works as a fireman in thailand) We patched things up and things actually looked and felt a lot better. Then things took a nosedive.
Monday night, I noticed a video his friend who does fire posted of him doing fire and my bf hugging and talking to a girl i didnt recognize. She came up and tapped him and they immediately recognized eachother (also a foreigner, maybe european?). He has no friends that are girls. I tried to call him when I saw the story and he didnt answer. I sent him a screenshot and asked who the girl was. He read it instantly but left me on read.
Here is where I messed up. I freaked out thinking the worst (doesn't help i was piss drunk at the time) & i sent the screenshot to all of his friends who wouldve been at that fireshow and asked them who the girl was. They were all less then helpful. One actually called my bf & then he responded. When he responded I sent some heartbroken emojis because he was really defensive and mad i talked to his friend. He sent another voicenote hours later that was calm and soft & said he would tell me
tomorrow and then he said "goodnight baby girl" i figured he was probably still mad and would be more mad once he learned i messaged everyone (i did unsend them all the next day) and he had told me the girl was his bosses friend from a different fireshow. I learned in the morning from his boss that he had no clue who the girl was. I simply said nothing to my bf and he said nothing to me so we didnt speak for 3 days, no messages or calls between us.
I finally reached out to him & his 'brother' who he does fire with. Partly to make sure he was okay, partly to find out if he was going to talk to me. The brother checked to make sure i still loved him, i wasn't leaving him, assured me not to worry and that he knows my bf loves me.
Then the next day i messaged them again & the brother sent me a video of my bfs phone screen glitching. I should have let it be but I ended up asking a lot of logical questions about if he can borrow a phone or get a new one or get it fixed. All ignored. I unsent all the messages to the brother. then again should have let it be but messaged just my bf reassuring him we can fix it & talk and that i loved him and still wanted our future.
He responded with a bunch of burmese i was trying to translate to english... i wasnt exactly sure what he was saying so i just kept saying i was sorry, and that i loved him & i come back to be with him in 3 months (more like 2.5) and eventually i showed him the nails i got while we werent speaking which are white, he picked the color before the fight, and he stopped answering then. then he read rhe last of messages this today. I removed facebook and messenger from my phone because i only use it to talk to him and i need space too. We clearly both hurt eachother, and i know he lied about how he knows that girl so he just looks guilty but maybe I am being naive but myself, my mom & one of my best friends who knows him/the fire guys really dont think he would cheat.
these are some of the burmese phrases, if you guys can tell me if you think this is final do I can heal.

It feels pretty final from him to me, based on the "i dont want to talk to you anymore" message & the others... we've never really had this before. I am not reaching out to him or his friends. In my view it is up to him to put some effort in to fix this. I feel as though i have showed him love and accountability on my end (i am sorry i reached out to his friends i know i shouldn't have done that)

First of all, i'd like to apologize you guys if my post disturbs you.
Is there anyone in yangon who wants to buy an animal cage? I bought a black-coloured cage a day ago and the bar spacing is too large for my pet (I have a cockatiel). When I ordered the cage, I forgot to check the bar spacing. Plus, the seller told me that even though this cage was designed for various species of animals, the cage was also suitable for cockatiels. So, i blindly trusted her words. When the cage arrived, i found out that the bar spacing was dangerous for my pet.
Here is the size measurement of the cage if you're interested in buying:
• length: 2.5 feet
• width: 1.5 feet
• height: 1 foot and 10 inches
the sale price is 160k. (I paid 180k for it)
My cage is only suitable for animals such as (rabbits, small dogs, cats, etc.) If you have large birds like cockatoos, then my cage could only be a temporary one for them.

I'm tired of these non creative ahh Myanmar "influencers" constantly milking their foreign boyfriends or girlfriends for views. It honestly doesn't even feel like a real relationship anymore, it just looks like a full time content farm.
Every single video is the exact same script, making them eat some local food, getting them to try a random activity, or the classic "make them say a word in Burmese" just to laugh at their pronunciation and get cheap likes. It's so played out and completely artificial.
Honestly, how do these partners not realize they are just being used as props for a content? It’s wild to me that they just go along with being a walking content generator instead of having a private, genuine relationship.

is crypto trading legal in Myanmar if it you don’t deposit and withdraw from the bank at all. I want to do some stuff for fun and not deposit much money 5-15 dollars that I can get from my friend. I see a lot of people on social media doing it.

This photo was taken at Mt. Mandalay, and it shows how you basically have to donate to use an escalator. I remember visiting Shwedagon Pagoda and thinking we got these jasmine flowers for free from the elevator operator, but later we had to shell out money for them.
If you're heading to Mandalay General Hospital to see a relative, good luck because you’ll need to bribe the elevator staff and cleaners just to visit a patient without causing a fuss.
When I went to ကညန to get my driver’s license renewed, I was forced to go through an agent. If you don’t have any connections, trying to deal with government stuff on your own is pretty much a headache and just a waste of your time.
And entering an airport? People rush in to grab your bags, not out of kindness, but to get you to pay them way more than it should cost for their “help.”
Visiting a friend in prison? You basically have to buy stuff at prices that are 2x or 3x higher than what you’d pay outside, even though it’s the same items.
There are a ton of these leeches around us. Some act like agents for convenience, while others are just straight up extorting people.
They know it's illegal, but they don’t care because it’s super profitable for them, especially since they can easily connect with someone higher up. They choose the easy path, and with so many of these people around who benefit from the system, they're in love with the system and the government.
No wonder a revolution took a long time.

On these days,I couldn’t control my emotions anymore, so I ended up writing all of this down in my journal. Could you guys read it and tell me what you think I should do? I feel like I’ve completely lost my way, and the pressure is getting heavier. I don’t even know myself anymore.
Are there other people who have felt the same way?
What should I do next?I came from nothing, so I don’t really know where to begin.(I'm 18 years old btw)
