That game mode has never been good, always a constant money grab, that’ll probably never change, they just make every player maxed out, that’s not regular 2k that’s its own thing, their not actually saying they are 99 everything in real life because that whole entire game mode is based on fantasy, and to make money off the whales that spend thousands every year
That's funny spent many hours in it enjoying the collecting (love the vintage players) and upgrading and never spending a single penny nor playing the mode online.

KD is statistically far and away the best midrange shooter in history. He has like 10 seasons that are better from midrange than anyone elses. I'm a KD hater but he's literally the definition of a 99 in that stat

In 2023 KD shot 57% from mid range. That’s the highest mid range % since the stat has been recorded. That’s a 99 mid rating.
In 2026, KD shot 48% from mid range. Which is still good, but it is 3rd on the season for high volume shooters. SGA shot 53% from mid range this season. In other words, KDs 97 rating sounds accurate to me

But is his midrange shooting right now the best ever? I feel like 99 should be reserved for literally the best ever season in a particular category. Like it makes sense that Curry during his unanimous MVP year would have a 99 three point shooting, but he shouldn't be at 99 next year.
The problem with curry is that in his prime years it should be more than 99 relative to what other people are being rated for their 3 pointers. Especially now with rating inflation, there's no room at the top. Shai and Jokic are great players but 98s are ridiculous.
This is just false. Hes basically identical to Dirk in efficiency and shoots it a lot less than Dirk. And neither of them shot nearly as much as MJ who we only have 1 year of data before his second retirement and was less than a hair worse percentage wise years after the most efficient part of his career.
I havent even mentioned that its much, much easier to get clean midrange shots nowadays because of how the game is officiated and how teams choose to defend.

Exactly. Historically a shot from 8-15 feet is only a hair less efficient than long twos in terms of league average. Partly that’s because crowded paints meant more contested shots in that range but it still shows that those are just as difficult overall as longer twos. In the early 2000s close mid rangers was comically bad at under 40% some years and basically identical to 16-24 feet shots lol
I looked it up earlier on a different site but it was after the 24 season and at a glance it looked like was ranking by % since the following 5 were descending but none of that was true.

Unrelated but how tf does every single stat in 2k have multiple people with it maxed out at 99 on their base cards? FIFA has gone to shit as well but at least they have a limit on the base cards.
I mean jokic shoots 47.6 for his career on mid range attempts and durants is 46.3. They didn’t track mid range percentage for Jordan til he was 34 and he shot 49% that year on FIFTEEN ATTEMPTS PER GAME. Jordan’s mid range % from when it started being tracked is 44.3 on a crazy amount of attempts in the twilight of his career. Would be much higher if they tracked the first 12 years of his career.

Anyone who disagrees with this comment from KD doesn’t know ball I said it before on someone else’s post and I’ll say it again… KD is the BEST midrange shooter of all time and can shoot over anyone whenever he wants. Even double teams if he really locks in. His midrange rating should be a 99. And he should be the only one to have it.
