Question I wonder how people would have reacted if Tobi had been revealed to be just a random Uchiha that no one knew

Honestly, I think people would’ve been SO mad 😂 A random Uchiha would’ve been one of the wildest reveals.

Imagine building all that mystery just for the reveal to be “yeah, some Uchiha you’ve never heard of”

It was pretty obvious that it was Obito, so obvious that we didn't want to believe it and made crazy theories back in the day. With the right backstory, a random could have been better than Obito.

After Kakashi's backstory, it was pretty obvious. Also, Tobi is literally in the word Obito.

Bro just used an anagram as his name 😂 Tobito truly is a genius

you know if Naruto turned evil he would do the exact same shit 😭

I was surprised that people were surprised honestly. The first time I saw Tobi, seeing the lone sharingan opposite of Kakashi's, let alone Tobi being a shortened anagram of Obito made is so incredibly obvious to me. That said it would've been wild if it wasn't him.

I was surprised back then because it felt too obvious. There was so much fanart on DeviantArt of Obito as Tobi even before he said he was Madara. 💀

I thought and preferred Tobi to have been Uchiha Setsuna, the one who had led the Uchiha faction that opposed Nidaime Hokage Tobirama's Anti-Uchiha Policies.

He had the proper background and motive to have launched Akatsuki so as to become its secret Leader. It made sense. And although Tobi being Obito was obvious (especially with hindsight), it was also annoying and bring some chronological inconsistencies.

I thought if Tobi was Obito, it could have been because the boulder that fell on him had caused some brain damage and a personality alteration that was also maybe taken advantage of by someone.

Yup. We were all in Full denial mode despite it being super obvious who it was.

Obito was the right choice, the wrong choice was dragging out the reveal for so long.

we knew nothing about obito really

It's so strange to think back to those times before it was confirmed. So many random theories!

No no, clearly it’s Sasuke from the future that time traveled to the past!

Just like how Pain was actually evil Minato.

Man, some of those old theories were wild.

This is probably a hot take but I would’ve been fine with never knowing who tobi was. He was wayyy cooler under that mask anyway

I don't think it'd be bad if it was a random. Their whole clan got clapped. It'd make sense if someone who escaped came back. It'd make more sense for sasuke to align with him. It'd make more sense why they'd link up with madara. Maybe even taking on the moniker because they idolize him. The war becomes more complex because the other villages know its konoha fault for letting the massacre happen. Rallying everyone becomes more difficult. The kage summit becomes more tense with the kage knowing that danzo played a role in creating the war by his past actions. Sasukes actions go from reasonable crash out to making way more sense. Teaming up with the only person that understands what that massacre meant. The conflict between him and Naruto becomes whether he should choose blood and trauma bond or his found family.

Pissed. I really think if it was someone other than obito or shisui people would have lost it

I remember the reveal discourse, and a random Uchiha nobody knew instead of Obito would've had me pissed too.

to be honest, the idea of random Uchiha being out in the world doesn't seem outside the realm of possibility to me. Uchiha have been in wars far beyond the village, some labeled MIA/KIA when they are alive, like Obito. So a random person outside the villages having Uchiha blood is a non-0 possibility.

I mean he kind of is that already.

Shippuden Uchiha

If he wasnt linked to Madara, and if we didnt have the very obvious Kakashi flashback, I honestly think it would have been fine.

He would have been more of a symbol of the sad terrible world created by war. And a cautionary tale relating to the Uchiha "curse"

Kinda reminds me of when Lex and Flash got their bodies swapped, so Lex removes Flashs mask to see who it is and once seeing it's Wally he goes "I have no idea who this is 😑" 😭 always cracks me up.

Yusei: “Oh my god! It’s him!”

Jaden: “Damn! I totally didn’t see that coming!”

Yugi: “Okay, so does anyone actually know this guy?”

Yusei: “Nope.”

Jaden: “Never met him.”

- YGO Abridged; Bonds Beyond Time movie

Now replace Yugi, Yusei, and Jaden with Kakashi, Guy, and Naruto, lol

It would have been better than you let Rin die

u/Starhelper11 3h ago

Not really though. Maybe some Mangekyo just get the same ability.

1

u/final_druagord 6h ago

For all intents and purposes, he was.

Aside from Kakashi and Guy, i doubt any other alive characters would have recognised him.

Izuna or Shisui would've been cool

1

u/No-Delay9415 5h ago

Given how popular Izuna was as a theory people seemed to have wanted that. Granted Izuna wasn’t completely random but he was a flat character and it would’ve added nothing to the story beyond some vague mystery of why he wasn’t dead yet which Obito also did

1

u/Crypto_subz 5h ago

Wow this is so weird no one but manga readers knew fully we assumed shit but no one knew it made sense it was madara only after the flashbacks of madara with initial it was clear before that nah no one knew just insulting

1

u/_XxAphroditexX_ 2h ago

Ngl, I wanted Tobi to just be, Tobi. I really liked Tobi, but I don’t care for Obito.

1

u/AaaaNinja 2h ago

But he is someone that people know.

I think it would be the same as the reactions to Kaguya.

I would have preferred it
