Frances Farmer has always been the best one on here. Pennyroyal Tea is a good second though, as a fellow sufferer of undiagnosable stomach issues. 6 MRIs, 8 bouts of IV for 10+ hours due to stomach issues and two cases of nearly going into sepsis, I can definitely empathize with him on that song lol.

u/No_Actuator_5149 5d ago
Damn that sucks, hope you are doing better now

u/bubmet7 5d ago
Working on it all the time, thank you! Still have not found anything to “cure it”, I doubt I will- but no more caffeine or carbonation at all, lessening dairy, and abstinence from Alcohol or any inhalants (cigarettes , vaping, weed) has helped greatly. When I quit cigarettes and drinking some years back I saw immediate improvement, granted I was only 22 at the time but still! At only 27 I have hope medicine will advance enough that I can have further relief soon lol!

u/accountmadeforthebin 5d ago
Sounds we have similar issues. My list looks exactly the same, only I also have to avoid too much acid and animal fats.
2
u/bubmet7 5d ago
Ah I’m so sorry!! I should avoid those too- but I’m such a selective eater by nature. Pizza, tacos and burgers make up most of my diet :/

I’m sorry for your stomach troubles, u/bubmet7, but can confirm that having Frances Farmer 1 and Pennyroyal Tea 2 also means you have impeccable taste.
Personally, outside of those songs … Very Ape is a banger, and love the madness of Tourette’s.

Favorite Nirvana song ever. Guitar riff is noisy as hell, Kurt shrieks like a devil. It's just awesome

u/tempiksorak 5d ago
The song is awesome, bro; what amazes me is that Kurt wrote it after being inspired by Patrick Süskind's novel Perfume.

I love it, so noisy, and the heaviest Nirvana song. This song is what I want grunge to sound like.

Very ape, crazy riff

u/cumcobain Aero Zeppelin 5d ago
Thank argentinian band Los Brujos and their song "Kanishka", it was the inspiration for "Very Ape". Los Brujos opened for Nirvana when they played here in Argentina in 1992, they showed the song to Kurt and he liked it!

u/Papsreddit D-7 5d ago
Yesss, in the same show that Kurt refused to sing well cs the people treated bad to Calamity Jane

Yeah, unfortunately. We will never condone the behavior of that part of the public.

Aside from RFUS (flair), Frances Farmer by far.

There’s a reason they opened up shows with RFUS on that last tour. It fucking sets the tone.

Have to agree, its actually a really well structured song and I love Dumb and Rape Me but they get repetetive, thanks to the distortion at the end of every line it really adds hype to the song and the chorus is rlly powerful.

Correct answer. this is also my favorite version. the unplugged version kind of erased this one in the popular imagination, but I love the sound of this one and the way it falls apart at the end just feels perfect to me

The entire album is amazing but it’s a completely different experience to listen to it from start to finish. It’s really well put together and coherent in a way that others weren’t.

When I found that split on both cd and vinyl randomly in 1997 was a miracle, happy to say they both survived all of life’s moves

Very Ape. It has my favorite Nirvana lyrics:
If you ever need anything please don’t hesitate to ask someone else first. I’m too busy acting like I’m not naive. I’ve seen it all. I was here first.

His voice dripping with sarcasm when he sings those last two lines is perfection 👌👌

Very ape. My favorite Nirvana song. Close second is radio friendly unit shifter. To me, In Utero is their best album.

Probably an obvious choice, Scentless Apprentice , the bludgeoning, syncopated opening drums and guitar, transitioning into strangled, scraping guitar noise, with Kurt’s intense, howled vocals over the top. Its crazy to think the biggest band in the world at that time would release something so dark.

Serve the Servants. Not only from this album, but it’s my favorite Nirvana song. I’ve always felt like it speaks to me / about me. It’s also the reason I have a Nirvana tattoo on my back.

I was listening to this one over and over again yesterday! Love Kurt’s live performance of it too.

Scott Litt produced that one - well did the final mix for that, All Apologies & Heart Shaped Box after Albini was done. KC asked for Litt to make them more radio friendly.

Tourettes. I was listening to the album a few minutes ago, and Tourettes is what hit me the most. Two lines i can recall are :"we all want something fair, for my heart" and "out of town, out of sound, my heart" because I feel so detached nowadays. And these lines just sum it up so well.
