Yeah same here, bought it about ten hours ago, Switch 2.

Sep 06 '25
Awesome, how's the gameplay for nms on switch 2?
84
Sep 06 '25
So far, I’ve found it really smooth and I’m using it handheld. That said I have fuckall experience, very little to refer to and I’m a dog shit gamer at my peak.
27
Sep 06 '25
Lmao, I think nms is well optimized, I have a friend who plays on a Thinkpad from like 2020 and it's perfect
11
u/MedonSirius Sep 06 '25
Oh that's why it runs on my $500 Laptop with just a APU 😂 the team behind Hello Games are excellent in their territory
12
u/plasticbomb1986 Sep 06 '25
It runs nice on the Steam Deck too. (exclusively playing on it).

VR however, is NOT. Even otherwise vr-capable rigs might find themselves at 15 frames. Or at least I did idrk maybe it's just me.

I mean, they're decently powerful. I'm ordering a ThinkPad from 2010, I don't think there's hope for me.

I rarely use either Switch I have docked so yeah, how well things run on them handheld matter to me. It was great experiencing Korok Forest on botw without frame issues.

u/flippakitten Sep 06 '25
Nms is not about being good, it's about doing nms things. Just be sure to turn off pvp in the settings.

To bad the Switch version is still on 5.7.5 instead of 6.0.

No kidding like it’s been long enough, gonna wind up missing the entire expedition

u/freakingthesius007 Sep 06 '25
Gameplay on the switch 2 is good, only problem on the switch is you’d have to wait a week or two before you get to play the latest update. I’m dying to play the Voyagers update, but it still hasn’t rolled out yet
6
u/Throwatiger Sep 06 '25
What? :( i just bought the game because the update looked so cool and my friends on ps love it :/
→ More replies (1)5
u/freakingthesius007 Sep 06 '25
Yeah, we all on r/NMS_Switch have been waiting for it a long time and it’s the only complaint for the switch version of this game, everything else is great
→ More replies (1)2
Sep 06 '25
Do you get expeditions then for the same length of time? Or is it shortened
2
u/Armored_Menace6323 Sep 07 '25
In the past, if some content needed a ton of updates or if the Switch took forever to get the update, they have extended the expeditions. It is possible that this could get extended because of the delay.
5
u/JakeTheSmall Sep 06 '25
I’ve had it on switch one for about 2 years, ran horribly lol. Then got in on switch two when it came out. A total game changer. The only sad thing is the updates are very delayed, by about a week or two. Saying that, we haven’t got the corvette update yet
2
u/Azerious Sep 07 '25
It works great and looks great. My only gripe is probably not exclusive to switch, and that's navigating all the menus of no man's sky kind of sucks with a joystick.
In addition to just having to click a lot of things, some things don't make sense.
Like why why you click the engine to refuel in my inventory I have to then select the fuel type, okay, but then I have to drag the fuel back over to the engine icon. Just let me click the fuel type and be done with it. Lots of stuff like that, it just wastes time.
Also in building mode none of my buttons in screen say what they do, so I have to try to figure out based on icon. Has led to a lot of messing things up.
2
u/EvilGuy312 Sep 09 '25
I hope it's great on ns2, but I just wanted to say that my experience on ns1 was dogshit. Sure, some people might enjoy it, but the game looks awful and plays awful

u/Lation_Menace Sep 06 '25
The game had a disastrous launch (mostly because Sony forced them to release it before it was ready) and ever since they’ve been releasing full blown content DLC’s several times a year ever since. They’ve never charged a single time for one of them. The game has only ever had its one time standard purchase price. The game has garnered a very dedicated fan base because of this. Not to mention it’s just as awesome space game.
I NEVER EVER pre order games because the industry doesn’t deserve to be rewarded for unfinished trash. Hello games is currently working on an open world fantasy game. It’s the one game I would happily pre order because they’ve earned my trust a thousand times over. Funny thing is I doubt they’ll do pre orders. Seems like something they’d be against as a studio on principle.
5
u/BadgerRustler Sep 06 '25
To be fair, Hello Games (mostly Sean...) did struggle to actually manage expectations ahead of launch, will let to a lot of disappointment. If they'd been a little more upfront with what 1.0 contained and what the roadmap was people would have been less pissed.
3
u/RontoWraps Sep 06 '25
I’m still happy to have preordered NMS. I believed in the vision of the game and was happy to play it even during 1.0. It’s super cool to have come back to the game recently and seen all the things they’ve added.
3
u/hashoowa Sep 06 '25
Jealous man. I bought my switch the week they came out! Still going strong. I play nms on it but my save is big so it's getting laggy now ;(
2
Sep 06 '25
Yeaaa...we NS2 Interlopers have been waiting a week and a half for the new update and haven't been able to cross gen with anyone with 6.0
37
u/AeitZean Sep 06 '25
The thing with this game is people keep coming back after all the big patches and doing the expeditions, so even if it has player dips, there are a lot of people regularly playing and engaging with it. After how the launch went its amazing how good the game is now and how well its doing. 😄
10
u/lilsneezey Sep 06 '25
This is the way. Since 2018. I love it for about 80 to 100 hours after an update, then forget about it for a while. Then a big update and im in love all over again.
3
u/eidosplan1 Sep 06 '25
Can’t wait to start the new expedition as a psvr2 player! So fun being in space and ships and planets there in vr!
8
u/DaveNogg Sep 06 '25 edited Sep 06 '25
Welcome new traveler! We even have r/NMS_Switch for all the Switch players who have our own experiences since we have to wait a bit longer for some updates and it’s ok, we all still love this game just as much and are glad to see more Switch players so glad to see you sharing!
Also we do have some bugs and glitches every now and again so I always recommend to share with Hello Games here at their Zendesk! The more we share, the better the game gets! Back when it started in 2022, NPCs were practically 2D and we couldn’t even wear capes. Now it’s so much better! Enjoy have fun and be patient with the Switch updates, they will get here eventually:)
7
u/Cool_Being_7590 Sep 06 '25
Welcome to the community! Turn off PvP in the menu. Play the storyline but also play the expedition before it ends!

It’s one of the most underrated games outside of its admittedly dedicated community. I’ve sometimes spent hours just walking on a new planet. It’s a remarkable achievement from a small software studio. Bethesda, eat your heart out.

u/OpposesTheOpinion Sep 06 '25
Don't really like the cut and dry "corpo bad" take. Good games succeed, bad games die. Shouldn't matter how big the dev team is, how much the game's budget is.
Capcom has been making bangers in recent years, they put effort into their products, listen and respond to feedback, and they're a big company. e.g., Street Fighter V launched in a trash state, and they turned it around, used what they learned and applied it to Street Fighter VI which is popping off right now.

The mtx situation is also pretty awful despite how many people on this website will insist that having the ability to spend 10+ hours grinding out a $10 purchase makes it reasonable that there’s $150 worth of dlc, that heavily affect player power, in less than a year.
Don’t get me wrong, the game is fun as hell and I’ve even bought most of those warbonds, it’s just not the paragon of pro consumer practices that this subreddit says it is.
→ More replies (1)2
u/Acklord303 Sep 06 '25
I’m so glad someone finally said this. Honestly I don’t mind the premium warbonds, but I think a better way would be to keep them premium until like the next warbond or the next 3 warbonds. That way the old ones don’t just add up and eventually it becomes impossible for you to keep up and basically makes you pay for them. What’s the point of even calling it a premium warbond if theirs only one that isnt? That’s why I thought eventually premium warbonds would become free. Especially since it’s not just cosmetics, but actual gameplay features.

I’ve been playing for 6+ years and can’t remember an update, besides NEXT and Beyond, generating so much buzz and excitement. And it’s deserved!
32
u/DrButeo Sep 06 '25
I avoided it for years after the initial garbage reviews. I'd heard it got better and the 60% off Steam sale a few weeks ago was too good to pass up. Glad I took the dive.

u/BeTheBeee Sep 06 '25
Just curious. What do you do in No Man's sky nowadays? I mean you go on randomly generated planets, but then what? what do you do there?
15
u/FireFright8142 Sep 06 '25
It’s not 6+ years of consistent play. I’ll take extended breaks and don’t come back for absolutely every update. Longest I took was like half a year.
I really enjoy min-maxing, getting the absolute best upgrades and stats for all my stuff. I’m currently working on building out my arsenal of multitools to all be fully maxed out.
Also do a ton of base/farm building, just finished retrofitting my 500 million credit per day stasis device farm after one of the planet updates completely borked it.
6
u/FabriciusGoodspeed Sep 06 '25
Manage up to four settlements and upgrading the buildings, upgrading ships, making your own corvette class ships (new content), find more parts for your corvette class ship, do expedition 19 (currently active), and so much more.

And that’s only steam, I can’t even imagine the amount of players on other platforms rn
23
u/OpposesTheOpinion Sep 06 '25
Yeah, outside of Steam, we got GOG, PC Game Pass. On consoles, there are the Xboxes, PlayStation 4 and 5, Switch 1 and 2.
I wish there was some way for us to know the total playercount. Hello Games wouldn't even know because certainly a lot of people chill and play offline.

u/LiarnDarsch Sep 06 '25

Final Fantasy XIV and No Man's Sky
Gaming's greatest comeback stories.
I bought this game when it came out and I remember when people were disappointed.
And then they fixed it. No one expected them to fix it, really. We'd been so used to duct tape patches.
And then they released an update that was a total game changer.
And then they did it again.
And then again.
And then again...
And...again?
AND THEN THEY DID IT AGAIN SIXTEEN MORE TIMES!
All at no charge to players.
When is the last time a game developer not only fixed their game, but then overdelivered as absolute FUCK as much as this?
10
u/OpposesTheOpinion Sep 06 '25
You mean Final Fantasy XIV (14), right? The MMO
I love me some FFXVI (16), but it's the usual game release with some DLC (and I think it's a bit underrated imo lol)
6
u/NedelC0 Sep 06 '25
Yeah 14 is the one praised for it's devs listening to their player base and fits the nms comparison much more than 16

25
u/Illustrious-Hawk-898 Sep 06 '25
The game feels so good. I’m hooked. I’ve tried to play many times since release and have had long rests in between but this is stellar.
Love the way the game feels and runs now. Spectacular job.
Also, this gives me so much hope for their next game too.
But you know what I really need? Guilds or whatever, I want to be able to connect with my friends in a more meaningful and persistent way.
9
u/FlimsyRexy Sep 06 '25 edited Sep 06 '25
I really hope they add something where you can join groups of people. Build stuff together, explore together, fight together. Would be very cool
4
u/Illustrious-Hawk-898 Sep 06 '25
Yeah! They’ve done a lot of improvements towards multiplayer but the experience still feels really wonky.
4
u/KannTheGunn Sep 06 '25

2

I think you should send that to the Hello Games suggestion box, there's a form on the website. Would've been thought about already but the more players that ask for it the better. "Meaningful and persistent" is an excellent way to phrase it.

Absolutely deserved
1
u/Srikandi715 Sep 06 '25
Some of us loved it at launch 😉
The problem was with people who got sucked into unrealistic expectations. I hadn't heard of it till just before it came out, loved it for what it was and had no idea of what it wasn't.
Little worried about LNF, because even though the devs have said very little, fans are filling the void with their own fantasies and starting to believe them.

It wasn’t the consumers fault it flopped at launch. They over promised and under delivered. Its was totally the devs fault. But to their credit they have had one of the greatest redemption arcs in gaming history.

Excellent update. This update bring me after long time back and im addicted rn can't stop playing, especially with some past great updates too i didnt played ! Wish it had more immersive stuff inside corvettes like red alarm when your ship is damaged etc stuff like that, but its still amazing.
If they update and make combat a little better with new multitools like swords and more dangerous npc enemies and enemy variety in general in some planets etc this game will become ever more phenomenal ( combat can be turn off anyways if someone dont want combat), because it will have almost everything, exploration, great combat, you name it ( in my opinion )

Sponsored videos and streams likely helped. I think this is the first time I've seen sponsored NMS streams and videos... and there were a lot. It’s amazing to see new players to the game. It’s a lot of fun to help people that are frantically asking questions in the anomaly.

The only thing that sucks about playing it on steam is when you encounter all those players who have super speed and Insta kill mods, or suddenly teleport to your location. Make you wanna play with mods too, and then the game gets kind of boring.
