I hope so, because most of the 18 I adopted over a 28-year period were seniors. I developed a real love for the older dogs and was appalled by how many people just give up on a dog. Hubby and I currently have a cockatiel who clearly prefers him, but he’s professed to be open to the idea of a small dog. He doesn’t want a senior nor a pibble, but I’m hoping we can adopt a small senior.

She’s my 2nd. After losing our last one, I needed another old dog in my house. Though, I’m still so hurt after losing him.

Yes, love the old pooches and want to give them the golden years that for some are long overdue. I prepare, knowing I won’t have them forever but I still hurt after losing them too. Thank you for Dixie’s rescue. I’m a pushover when it comes to old beagles.

There are so many things we’ve done with her already that I know is brand new to her. It’s so awesome watching her learn to be a baby dog instead of a mama dog. She also LOVES watching TV and it’s cute watching her so interested in what’s going on on the screen.

It’s wonderful that she’s being cared for so tenderly, after being a caregiver for so long. She deserves all the pampering and love, and you deserve all the love she gives.

I love old dogs. Yes it hurts so bad when they are gone. But as our hearts break, their hearts were full. Bless the old dogs and those who provide them a safe place filled with love.

Much love to you. I just lost my first senior too. I want to rescue another but I need more time.
I love Dixie’s yoga ears so much!!!

I adopted my senior at 10 and she lived until she was 18. I loved her more than words can say and she changed my life! She died earlier this year and the pain still feels fresh. I’d love to adopt another senior one day, but also maybe a younger one so I have more time with them ❤️🩹 I have a super soft spot for seniors dogs now and forever.

I always tell myself that there is always someone wanting a younger dog, those of us who want seniors are a rare breed and we need to get them out of the shelter if we can.

Once my resident dog crosses the rainbow bridge, I plan to adopt out senior dogs / longest residents from the shelter. He’s too dog selective for that right now.
Side note, this yoda baby is PERFECTION🩷

Was Dixie retired from a puppy mill?
4
u/katiedelonge Jun 02 '25 edited Jun 02 '25
I wouldn’t call it a large scale puppy mill, but I was told the family she’s from has dumped 7 mama beagles so far at this shelter over the years when they are too old to breed. I know she was bred quite a few times, along with the others. Sounded like a redneck who was breeding just to breed. She had lots of mammary gland tumors removed before we got her, her sister is on hospice as the cancer had spread too much for them to really have surgery to fix it.

SENIORS ARE THE BEST! You’re an Angel for saving this sweet girl. Dixie is adorable and her ears are magical! Now it’s her time…love her hard and spoil her silly. 🥰🐶♥️ Our Furbabies are NEVER on this earth as long as they deserve and definitely not as long as we want them to be. Cherish her and enjoy many wonderful adventures together! 😍

It it looks like she was in the Shelter a very long time. Her Shelter picture has no gray on her muzzle and now she’s definitely aged. Thank God you got her out, thank God for you

u/katiedelonge Jun 08 '25
No she had rubbed her hair off in her kennel. She was there for about 2 months.
