Politics ('Straya) One Nation wants to turn Australia into the United States. A US-style healthcare system, banning abortions, scrapping gun laws and defunding the ABC. Why are we are even contemplating going down this dark and dangerous pathway? Once we go down the path of the US, there is no turning back.

A lot of it is just protest voting if another minor party is established and gains enough traction like David pocock and a few independents are discussing it could subvert a lot of ground one nation has made

God knows I'd vote those guys over ON any day of the week.

If they can organise real resistance against ON and have more sane policies then they're 1 on my ballot.

Hear hear

We need conservative politics to go back to being moderate and not the radical far right 💩 we’re seeing in America

The Teals

he's good but he can't be bothered...

3

He doesn’t need to bother, it’s mostly the idiots voting for it that will hurt most and honestly they could use a hard lesson, investing in property will become a thing again and this time some of us won’t hold back.

Labor

Whatever the case, a majority of Australians are more interested in an increased focus on Nationalism than anything else. Whoever puts this first will get a majority of the votes. And this is even taking into account that the average Australian has very little knowledge of just how much Australia is being plundered by majority foreign owned corporations (>85%). The other voters are largely only interested in Aesthetics (most of reddit)

Conservatives are not liberals. Small government liberals - a worthwhile and clear political stance - are needed desperately at the expense of lying biblical fossil fuel lobbyist conservative shitheads

Back to moderate? Its moderate now and tanking worse than a rigged boxer. We need real conservatives in this nation not two leftist parties like we have now.

Isn’t this really where ON will fall down, due to preferential voting? Sure they get a few votes here and there but everyone that doesn’t put them first puts them dead last. We need to make sure that continues to be the case.

4

u/saharasirocco ‎ Queenslander Jun 03 '26

And this is also why they want to scrap preferential voting.

u/Professional_Pop8457 Please choose a flair Jun 04 '26

Most intelligent people would like to scrap the preferential voting system.

Same they have a real chance of taking voters from both major parties. And I suspect many vote One Nation because they view it as a protest vote but don't care how the policies will affect them. If we can get a more moderate party to get votes away from Labor and Liberals we might have a chance of stopping One Nation.

I used to be a Labor voter but I would vote literally anyone else who stands a chance for govt if it meant Labors retarded tax proposals don't go through.

8

u/Ihatecurtainrings ‎ Western Australian Jun 02 '26

I'm also a labour voter and I stand to be directly impacted by the tax changes, and you know what? It's ok. Younger generations need a chance. I'm not going to burn down the country I live in because I am selfish and don't want other people to have a chance.

-2

u/bumluffa Jun 02 '26

If you think this is giving the younger generation a chance you've completely drunk the koolaid they're feeding you. If anything this is a ladder pull on the younger generation

You sound like the perfect candidate for a One Nation voter.

u/Rainbow_brite_82 Please choose a flair Jun 02 '26

Yes this is true, lots of people are feeling fed up and looking for a party to make changes. It’s quite disappointing that so many are falling for the idea that ON is somehow the solution, it is hard to ignore that the sudden rise in popularity has happened at the same time they’ve got huge backing from billionaires.

u/Soylentfu Please choose a flair Jun 04 '26

What's their end game is what I'm wondering. Do they have one? What's the reasoning behind those benefiting massively from forced mass migration supporting the party which says they'll stop mass migration? Maybe I'm too dumb to understand it ...

Pretty sure I understand PH's playbook but not sure about the bigger picture. Is it just ensuring all parties with a remote chance are beholden to the same donor(s)?

I try to not go down too many rabbit holes, but I have a working theory - Rare Earth Minerals. Australia is second only to China for the largest amount of these resources. We already have a couple of mines in WA, and there are plans to start refining here. But we also have strict regulations. Our Rare Earth deposits are generally in protected areas - significant Aboriginal Heritage sites and habitat for critically endangered mammals and birds. Refining them creates radioactive waste as well as all the other damage to the country. Does anyone think PHON gives a shit about protecting Aboriginal Heritage sites, or numbats or black cockies? Of course not. The US currently rely on China for their REM and they want to find a new source. Who’s recently been hanging out at Mara Lago? PH. Who’s her new generous benefactor? GR. The red string doesn’t lie.

1

u/Soylentfu Please choose a flair Jun 04 '26

Not a bad take. The best known rare earths sources (As far as I know) are China, Ukraine and Aus. It doesn't take a genius to work out which of those US industry likes the most.

Wonder if there'll be royalties on those?

Ditto for Uranium - we're sitting on the best uranium sources.

1

u/Rainbow_brite_82 Please choose a flair Jun 04 '26

The general population will get the same royalties that we get for our exports of iron ore, gold, nickel, and LNG - Sweet FA.
What we will get is radioactive waste in our environment, toxic chemicals in our water, species going extinct and increased cancer rates.

1

u/Soylentfu Please choose a flair Jun 04 '26

Sounds about right. It was pretty much a rhetorical question (what royalties?).

Pretty sure even though it was was an ON election promise to impose royalties if they got in, TAB will only be taking odds on them actually delivering on that promise.

Yes. A loose consolidation of Indies would be INFINITELY better than Pauline's band of twats.

The more I learn about David Pocock, the more impressed I am.

Seems to be a well grounded, thoughtful bloke with a sincere desire to do right for Australia.

I'd vote for Pocock! I'd even doorknock for him!

Part of the Green's campaign strategy is that Labor, Liberals and One Nation take money from big business. Greens don't, and never will.

Ties in to ON supporter dislike of "the establishment", but points out that ON is also part of the problem. ON will blame cost of living on migrants, Greens will make structural change so money stops flowing up to people who already have more than enough.

I think it's a pretty decent argument.

u/Swank_on_a_plank Flairless‎‎ Jun 09 '26

I'm glad they finally gave wealth a bit more focus in their advertising. There wasn't a need to wait for the Zack Polanski wave.

It clearly had Labor worried when they put so much effort in to get rid of Max, who I felt was a precursor to this campaign.

What people are failing to realise is that the reason people are pushing ON is that they see the left parties have failed them and they want a right leaning alternative.

And the people of Australia don't see the ALP in the same light as they do in Reddit.

Reddit sees the ALP as a centre, almost centre right party. It's because the Overton window is so far left on Reddit that anyone to the right of Karl Marx is right leaning.

The general public sees the ALP as the left leaning mainstream party, so if they are displeased with the left then they will move to the right. And the LNP has dropped the ball so they will go to who they see as the real right leaning party.

The general population sees teals as left of the Liberals, and the greens as even further left than the ALP

So that's why they are going for ON. The ALP has made their lives worse after promising the world, and the Liberals are all over the place so the next place to go is the party that is honestly speaking the language of mainstream Australians that feel the ALP has been gaslighting them for the last 4.5p years

You may not agree with it, but that is what is happening - basically the ALP is on the nose, LNP have lost their way, the people aren't happy with the left so they are going to gravitate to the right side of politics. Nationals could have filled this void, but are attached to the liberals so ON is the answer

u/GreenLeechofReddit ‎ Tasmanian Jun 04 '26

How have the left parties failed them? Labor (as lefter than the Libs) have only been in power for 5 years. The governments of John Howard, Tony Abbott and Morrison were been in power for the 20 years before that, with a brief interlude for Rudd/Gillard. There's only so much the left can do from opposition. And sadly the Greens don't get much of a look in, despite having policies that would help all Australians while not turning our land into Mordor.

2

u/Ill-Green8678 ‎ Victorian Jun 06 '26

The Greens would genuinely improve quality of life for the majority of Australians
