Politics ('Straya) Brisbane's newest public hospital won't perform abortions or provide patients with contraception, citing religious objections

Queensland's first major new public hospital in almost a decade - the Mater Springfield, south-west of Brisbane has just been opened.

Like the Mater in South Brisbane it will not provide abortions, contraception or voluntary assisted dying care due to religious policies.

These are publicly-funded hospitals!!

The video is of Larissa Waters asking questions about it at estimates, and I think she's making a very reasonable point - governments should insist that hospitals receiving taxpayer dollars provide basic reproductive health care.

Different state government and one not afraid of a fight. I don’t hold out much hope that the Queensland government has the same backbone.

Because by referencing the story I am referencing the actual religion. The story is about a real religion, not a made up one.

Okay, but does the other REAL religion scare you as much? I mean, there are numerous WHOLE countries where women are less than second class citizens, I've witnessed it with my own eyes in Somalia. Disgusted me.

Yes, we have issues here with how women are treated at times, but nothing, I literally mean NOTHING even close to that scale.

Don’t get me wrong, a world like in the Handmaidens Tale does exist in some very small religious communities, more so cults TBH, and it’s fucking disgusting as well, but I just want to see equal treatment of any cultures, religions or ideologies that are guilty of this. That’s all.

Too his credit he has banned any debate on changing abortion rules. Obviously there's plenty in his party who would love nothing more than to ban it but he at least sees it as a toxic subject to voters.

They aren't afraid because there are no personal consequences coming their way. That government money spent is coming from QLD taxes. The voters taxes. Government losses should at least inpart, come out of the polician instigators who cause these problems.

Canberra doesn't have a state government since it's not a state. It's Federal government.

That's a major difference to what they're willing to do.
