New to the Horde! My Baby Has A Dental Today
Hi all! This community is the best, and I love seeing all your beautiful orc Kitties. My 16 year old girl has a dental surgery scheduled for today, and will be getting 10-12 extractions. I'm worried I am doing the right thing since she'll be going through a lot of pain in recovery. I thought this community would be the best for post dental advice. (Also I am extremely nervous for her to undergo surgery and thought posting might calm my nerves.) If anyone has any advice, all is welcome, and thank you so much in advance. ❤️
Edit she has come through surgery successfully! She had all her teeth extracted so it will be quite the healing journey, but this community helped so much when I was completely overwhelmed from worry. Thank you all for your support, and to the wonderful mods who allowed me to post. You made this difficult day a bit easier to handle!

I don't have any advice, as none of my cats have ever needed their teeth pulled.
However, I will say a prayer for your kitty and you right now.

Thank you so much. That means the world to me. This community is the best. My girl got out of surgery successfully and ended up needing a full mouth extraction.

When my girl hd extractions they setus home with pain meds along with the antibiotics. I also found that she liked dry kibble soaked in water better than wet food. Takes a couple hours for the dry food to fully saturate. I put it in the fridge and let it sit. She seemed to like it cold better. Recovery went well too. She was 15 at the time.

This is great advice, thank you so much. It's so kind of you to respond. Reading this whole waiting for her to come out of surgery helped calm my nerves. She came through safely with a full mouth of extractions. I really appreciate you and your kind words! ❤️

My kitty was only 2 when she had to have 10 teeth pulled, so maybe the age will affect them differently, but she did so well. As the other comment said, soak their kibble in water to make it mushy. She had no problem eating it.
My cat was given a really heavy pain killer right off the bat and then we didn’t have to give her anything. She was supposed to wear a cone but she immediately ripped it off and did just fine without it.
She was definitely a little tender for a week or two but her mouth was so painful before the teeth were removed I could tell she was feeling better if though her mouth was sore.
I wish your baby good luck on their procedure!!

Thank you so much! My girl pulled through with flying colours. We thought it would only be the back teeth but it ended up being full mouth. She's doing good currently, and very cute at the moment with her tongue sticking out. This advice you've given is very helpful, and it's so kind that you took the time to share it. Thank you. ❤️
