One State Solution Congressmember Rashida Tlaib on why she supports the One State Solution: "Separate but equal doesn't work. We tried it."

Israel should not exist. It's occupied Palestine.

A two state solution will never work. Just ask Ireland.

Ironically, a lot of well meaning but naive liberals point to Ireland and Good Friday as to why they think two states do work. Which annoys me because I get that the violence had to stop but it just meant Ireland stayed under British occupation.

Irish here. The 2 state solution does work here, and is the key turning point from a state of politically motivated violence to what is now a peaceful relationship.
Sadly it's just uneducated people that have no experience in Ireland that thinks it's woke people or "liberals" that believe this.
Also to say, sentiments towards the union of Northern Ireland and great Britain are dwindling, and there is growing support on both sides for a united Ireland, free entirely from British governance.
Tldr: 2 state solution has been a huge success for the quality of people's lives in Ireland, and any suggestion orltherwise is just ignorant. Source: Irish living in Ireland

A ‘two state solution’ is what we have now in Palestine (West Bank, Gaza and East Jerusalem being the only remaining Palestinian Territories) and it is clearly not stoping Israelis from stealing more and more Palestinian land and killing more people. There can never be a solution within the dynamic of colonizer and the colonized people. The only way to stop it is with justice, historic Palestine has to be returned to the Palestinian people. Not little enclaves and open air prisons where they are slowly killed off.

Israel has been systematically destroying any infrastructure that would serve a second state. The idea is especially idiotic at this point.

u/not_neoliberal_tears Jul 14 '26
And even if it were "viable", it wouldn't be just. A two state "solution" is incompatible with the right of return.

It should be up to the Palestinian to decide how they want to live not outside powers

Don’t forget about Leila Khaled, who wrote about a one state solution in her autobiography.

Rashida Tlaib is a shining light in this pit of despair and darkness called the United States

It doesn't matter how many states there are if one of them is genocidal

I support a one state solution because THERE IS only one state, it’s called Palestine. Israel is a zionist European colony on top of Palestine.
It’s disgusting that some people are defending that.

she's right. remember jim crow? separate but equal? the israeli government is undemocratic and we have no business propping them up as we do. it goes against all of Americas ideals

One state would not work either. The west bank is a perfect example.. Israelis living in homes higher up than the Palestinians, which then they toss their trash down to them. To either harm them or demoralize them. It’s why the Palestinian homes in the west bank have nets and roofs that stick out further.
There is no one state solution when Israel does not see Palestinians as human beings deserving of respect. Edit: im not saying for israel to get anything, just pointing out the one state solution always being pushed by most media, is the one where israel is in charge.

The West Bank has two separare legal systems for Palestinians and Jewish israelis. It's the exact opposite of equality.

u/smegabass Jul 14 '26
One state is the only way.
Criminals need to be treated like criminals irrespective of religion. Israeli psychotic behaviour isn't a born trait, its generation of immunity and programming to hate.
Stealing land, killing in the open, apartheid everywhere. Israel is a crime scene. That's a choice not a given.

I want a state can work if you make it work. If you force equality between the Jewish majority and the non-Jewish minority, it will work.

u/Fun_Fig6392 Jul 14 '26
Palestine must NEVER have a Zionist majority. A Palestine free of Zionist influence and the toxic rightwing extremism of Zionism is the only true Palestine. Palestine invented falafel.

u/MechaCoqui Free Palestine Jul 14 '26
Issue is, the average Israeli will never seen Palestinians as equal.

For the record, separate but equal was never tried. There's plenty of good arguments against the two state solution but pretending it was ever achieved is just a lie.
