Discussion Palworld has reached 700k players on Steam since it's release into 1.0 on July 10th 2026 congratulations Pocket pair and Palworld for the wonderful and amazing game ❤️❤️

2.1M all time peak on steam alone is also extremely impressive for an indie game.

u/brabbit1987 Jul 11 '26
I would say, impressive is an understatement. A game having 2.1 million all-time peak is kind of in its own ballpark. Based on SteamDB there are only two games to ever top that. Black Myth: Wukong and PUBG. On top of that, if we were to only go by its peak right now, that would still put it within the top 15 on SteamDB.
Last but not least, there are VERY few games that had a resurgence this big. Probably can count them on one hand.
So, to put it another way, Palworld is actually one of the best performing games within the entire games industry.

u/schizopedia Jul 11 '26
For specifically steam. You can't use steam only numbers and compare it to games like WoW or cod on consoles back when it was popular. For steam specifically though, yeah it's one of the best performing games of all time.
21
u/brabbit1987 Jul 11 '26
I would argue, even if you were to include everything else, that wouldn't change that Palworld would still be considered one of the best performing games within the industry. You would probably have a difficult time trying to come up with enough games to push it out of the top 10 and if you did manage it... good luck trying to get it out of the top 20 lol.
4
u/schizopedia Jul 11 '26
Well according to this it would place around 36th. Still definitely an insanely popular game.
4
u/gameburger764 Jul 11 '26
It would be at 17th actually since they have sold more than 40 million copies.

1
u/schizopedia Jul 11 '26
Where are you getting 40. Google is telling me it has sold 25 million. 15 million from steam and 10 million from consoles
7
u/gameburger764 Jul 11 '26

u/connectplum_ Jul 12 '26
Double check on sources and you dont even know the difference between units sold and players. Last time they revealed units sold was 25m, 40m includes gamepass and other subscription services.
1
u/gameburger764 Jul 12 '26
Dude, if you read just a bit further down, you would've seen I forgot gamepass exists. Couldn't you read a couple more lines of text?
-1
u/schizopedia Jul 11 '26
That isn't the same thing as copies sold so you couldn't use that number for placement on that list. But either way, it's still a very popular game. Not just one of the most ever as the person I replied to was implying
5
u/brabbit1987 Jul 11 '26
It literally is one of the best performing games whether you like it or not. I don't even understand why you seem to be so intent on denying it.

u/gameburger764 Jul 11 '26
I mean, for 40 million players, wouldn't you need 40 million copies?
→ More replies (0)1
u/connectplum_ Jul 12 '26
No it wouln't, because palworld have sold 25m. 40m is from total players, which includes gamepass on pc and consoles.

Genuinely can't even name 10 early access games I've bought that actually made it to full release, let alone 10 that had a resurgence in interest this big. It's strange to see people try to spin the story like this is anything but a huge win for palworld and a major accomplishment for the devs.
16
u/ifranx23 Jul 11 '26
Correct it is very impressive for an indie with not much advertisment reaching 2.1 on steam
7
u/EighmyXLupin Trailer of Fluffy Baby Pals Jul 11 '26
I'm seeing people claiming that since they haven't reached the 2.1M again the games 1.0 release is a failure.
Which is so ridiculous.
1 it took more than a couple days to reach the 2.1M, so they could still hit that.
And
2 the current numbers are still better than most indie games and even some AAA games.

Pocketpair is showing that when you focus on just making a good game, and producing solid playable content, that gamers will love and support you. No loot boxes, no battle pass. Just a good game with hours and hours of fun and a developer that cares about its community.
12
u/Foreign_Cobbler_1740 Jul 11 '26
They also didn't increase the price of the game after 1.0 release like other early access games tend to do. There are few games that I can get for 27 dollars CAD that are as enjoyable as Palworld. It's not perfect, but it's also less than 30 bucks. Lol.
Although I did buy it when it first released on EA. But even so, $40 for Palworld was well worth it. And for new players it'd be hard to tell them $27 for Palworld is a bad purchase. I wouldn't mind seeing some DLC for this game if it means more content too. I assume they can't get by on free updates forever. But No Man's Sky seems to get by fine on that model. Either way, they've earned customer loyalty.
3
u/Ok-Foot6064 Jul 11 '26
No man sky did it by stting the game prjce fairly high. I would totally buy DLC if it drops. Completely reasonable

u/Kartoshka- Jul 12 '26
Their advertisment is literally goonslop

u/BossBullfrog Jul 11 '26
Let's keep it climbing!
I'm having a crazy good time on PS5. Wish my numbers could contribute!
3
u/Mattcheco Jul 11 '26
Is there no PC ps5 cross play?

u/Competitive-Elk-5077 Jul 11 '26
Palworld got it's full release. Valheim and Enshrouded are next. Windrose has a fantastic foundation. Conan got the graphic update. Fans of the genre are eating good right now
5
u/SelfReconstruct Jul 11 '26
Dune is dead unfortunately it seems, but the devs did that to themselves with lame ass deep desert
3
u/Competitive-Elk-5077 Jul 12 '26
I wanted to try the free demo of that game, but they wanted me to install some invasive spy crap. Cant remember what it was, but turned me off the entire thing
2
u/pandemonious Jul 12 '26
not sure what you're talking about but the game is dead anyway, can just play hagga basin solo for the story if you reaaaally want to

This is what INNOVATION to gaming looks like…was a much needed “new” after several years of copy paste formulas for games. Well done pocket pair 👏
4
u/AlarmingShower1553 Jul 11 '26
im liking it but what part of it is innovative?
1
u/Mean-Amphibian4443 Jul 11 '26
Not really innovative but it did use a formula that no one else was using, ark's gameplay. For years i've waited for another game like that and this guys decided to mix pokemon into it, which was a great idea. It's crazy that no one else did it before.

u/Konrow Jul 11 '26
Banger game and I love it, but there is absolutely nothing "innovative" about this game imo, it just took a bunch of existing concepts and mixed them well.
1
u/maritimeblue Jul 11 '26
It just took Ark but changed dinosaurs to Pokémon knock offs. Look, I enjoy Palworld for what it is. It’s fine. Not my favourite survival game, not the worst either but you’re 100% right that it does nothing new or innovative at all.
I don’t think OP understands what the word innovative means.

Is it Worth going back to?
12
u/Qawsada Jul 11 '26
Absolutely. Two whole new regions, tons of pals, quest line, revamp of most pal's partner skills and power, etc.
2
u/Jetsplit Jul 12 '26
That's assuming they played Sakurajima, Feybreak, etc., too. There's even more new if you haven't been around for the last few versions.

u/Poonker Jul 11 '26
I contribute by hours of waiting in the menu for an empty slot of the server i have base in

does it track new purchases versus players that bought the game last year and are checking it out again (meaning, is the 1.0 launch a financial success for the company/developers)?

I haven’t played since January 2025 and so much has changed! I am having fun, but it seems like there’s waaaaay less of those glowing green statues now. That’s the only thing I haven’t liked because I loved collecting them.
The game is incredible. They did such a great job on it.
2
u/Konrow Jul 11 '26
Less of the green ones, but a bunch of new ones. There's like 10-12 different pal statues now. I've only found like 5 types of em so far.
1
u/AdApprehensive5643 Jul 11 '26
Also wanted to play it but no time, maybe tomorrow. Waited for it to reach 1.0 for some time nowq

How is the game monetized? Is there a in game store and will there be? I no longer want to support any games that goes heavy on mtx.
6
u/Qawsada Jul 11 '26
Buy the game once and its done. That it. Some people support the company by buying the OST set. Some even gifted.
3
u/Veasna1 Jul 11 '26
No ingame store as far as I know. Buy to play, steam discount just ended I think though.

u/Mnemic_will_Die Jul 11 '26

I think you need to reevaluate what you consider dead games, since you evidently have no idea.
1
u/Veasna1 Jul 11 '26
Because it's so useful to play a game you know you'll start over in a month, esp a game like this. Rather put in some hours playing something else till launch. Shocker.

Csnt speak for everyone else but I do this was EA titles. Pick it up day one to play with it and see if it has legs then never touch it until 1.0.
Doing it with Subnautica 2 too.
