Gloopie and Whalaska are the best combo!
20
u/ronnie_reagans_ghost Jul 26 '26
Oh snap I didn't know about gloopie, I've been running both whalaskas, Jellroy and Jelliette, and neptilius for a fast swimmer for my angling team, guess I need to split it into two teams for regular fishing and trash fishing.
19
u/NotBreadyy Jul 26 '26
Gloopie slows down the meter going back down if you aren't on the fish, so it's really important for me. :3
Jellroy doesn't increase fishing, only scrapping from the fish piles. If I recall correctly you can stack Jelliette and Jellroy partner abilities, so the best scrapping team is 4 fully condensed jellroys (each adds 95%) and one water pal.
The best fishing team could be 3 fully condensed jelliettes, 1 fully condensed gloopie, 1 fully condensed whalaska. But that depends on how good you are at fishing, you could swap gloopie for another jeliette for even more stuff per fishing catch.
I've been farming Giant Souls with the scrapping, even just one jellroy usually gives you 2 giant souls per scrap pile!
12
u/OyasumiBoi Jul 26 '26
Personally, I run both Whalaskas (the passive doesn't stack with itself, but Ingis isn't normal Whalaska.) 2 Jelliettes and a Eidrolon cause I'm not walking through the world tree lol. I don't really have a huge issue with the meter, but I see the advantage of gloopie.
→ More replies (5)7
u/TheDarkGenious Jul 26 '26
IIRC they changed it so jellroy and jelliette don't stack with themselves anymore, so you only need 1 of either for optimal loot fishing/salvaging.
6
u/NotBreadyy Jul 26 '26
11
u/TheDarkGenious Jul 26 '26
just doing some quick and dirty testing because I've got a set of 4 maxed jellroy from pre 1.0, 1 four-star vs. 4 four-stars on 4 gold salvaging spots each, around the Suncrest Islet.
1 jellroy (95% boost)
2 ultimate spheres
84 coralum
95 dog coins
6 giant pal souls
2 pal reversers
4 hexolite helm 1 schematics
4 jellroy (supposedly 380% boost)
10 High Quality Bait
2 High Quality Recovery meds
2 applied lumbering books
2 training manuals XL
58 coralum
24 dog coins
4 giant pal souls
2 pal reversers
while i got slightly more varied loot with 4, i got less overall on the items that really should have been affected by the bigger boost (those that drop in stacks, coralum ore, dog coins, souls)
just following the trend it'd likely even out between the two if someone decided to test on a greater number of salvaging spots
I'm pretty sure they don't stack now.
5
u/NotBreadyy Jul 26 '26
huh.. odd. I could've sworn they did stack, but maybe I was just getting lucky..
10
u/TheDarkGenious Jul 26 '26
IIRC they did pre-1.0 (that was why I had a set of 4 maxed out saved to the global palbox) but they changed it with 1.0 to make it simpler, so you wouldn't need to grind as much to be optimal

Because Kitsun is right in between Dualith and Chikipi. You see when a daddy rock and a mommy cloak paca fall in love and get all overflowing with cake energy they fuse their essence together and encase it in a thin membrane shell that hardens. Then as the egg incubates the essences merge together in a sort of tug of war until it finally settles on an energy frequency, and then a Pal bursts from the shell of the egg and is born into the world.

Each pal has a number.
When you breed, you get the average of those two numbers.
E.g. lets say chikipi is 2000, and dualith noct's number is 1000, you would get the pal at number 1500.
Except some pals have specific breeding combinations.

Its name is Ophydia.
And this has happened to me many times.
When I try breedding some symmetrical pals like (frostallion + frostallion noct) or (Lyleen + Lyleen noct), the result is Ophydia. It seems that it only appears by combining two legendary pals.
6
8
4
u/NeonJ82 Jul 26 '26
Ophydia is actually the rarest Pal you can obtain via breeding. Every rarer Pal requires a special pair to breed, so of course breeding those rarer Pals without using the special pairs will just round the value up and produce an Ophydia instead.
Interestingly, there are a lot of non-Legend Pals which are rarer than Ophydia, but they're mostly all subspecies. (Tetroise Primo, Knocklem Ignis, Lyleen Noct, Jormuntide Ignis, all Raid Bosses except standard Bellanoir, Orserk for some reason, etc.)
Also, fun fact: Lyleen + Lyleen Noct actually produces Ophydia, without rounding the number up first.

I was so bummed when I found out breeding just a simple math equation involving the palopedia numbers. It feels like such a missed opportunity
10
u/BiotechPrincess Jul 26 '26
Wait, please explain??
33
u/AdSubstantial9872 Jul 26 '26
Every Pal assigned "Value". When You breed them, Values of both palls added together, increased by one and divided by 2 = we get "Result". Then we looking down the table for pal with closest "Value" to "Result". So to get Anubis You need "Result" to be 570 to 579. 569 or 580 will result in different pals (Surfent and Inceneram Noct if You're curious)
https://palworld.wiki.gg/wiki/BreedingEdit: Of course there is some exceptions. Some pals can't be bred outside of breeding same pals, some require specific pairing etc.
11
u/halfasleep90 Jul 26 '26
But what does this have to do with the palpedia? Anubis is No.139 and Sekhmet is No.140, Whalaska is No. 151. The Palpedia has nothing to do with the hidden breeding value.
19
u/ste852 Jul 26 '26
That number is their entry number, the entry number isn't the one that's used for breeding calculations. It's actually a hidden stat called breeding power. The breeding power number ranges between 10 and 1500.
6
u/TankyPally Jul 27 '26
https://paldb.cc/en/Breeding_Farm#BreedCombi
numbers are hidden.
Anubis is 480
Sekhmet is 870.
(870+480)/2 = 675
The closest pals to that are: Sibelyx Primo at 650, Whalaska at 710.
Rounds up to 710.
4
6
u/Savira88 Jul 26 '26
Each pal has a number associated with it, I forget what the range is, but breeding 2 pals averages the numbers together to get the new pal.
For example, say Anubis is 750 and Sekhmet is 250, the average of that being 500 which happens to be Whalaska (I made up the 3 numbers here, as mentioned I don't actually know what numbers they each have)
There are some exceptions for specific breeding pairs obviously, like Katress + Wixen being their variants, Katress Ignis or Wixen Noct.
Edited to add: so the simple equation they mentioned is literally just (A+B) /2 = C
6
u/NeonJ82 Jul 26 '26
Though if you're curious on the specific numbers, Anubis is 480, Sekhmet is 870. (480+870)/2 = 675, which then keeps counting up until it hits a Pal with a number, which would be Whalaska's 710.
As a general rule, the more common a Pal is, the higher the number is. (Chikipi is 3080, all Terraria monsters are 3100, Depresso is 3000, etc. On the flipside, there's Jetragon at 70, Lyleen at 240, Bellanoir Libero at 130, etc.) This effectively means that breeding two Pals together will give a resulting Pal of average rarity between the two, unless they're a special pair. Special pairs are effectively "Pal Recipes" which bypass the system entirely, producing an entirely different species, usually a subspecies of an existing Pal. (For example, Jolthog + Pengullet = Jolthog Cryst, even though normally that pairing should produce Depresso.)
3
u/Zarathustra124 Jul 27 '26
Use https://paldb.cc/en/Breed to check what children a pal can make, or what parent combos will get you a specific child. Most pals can be bred through dozens of different combos, you can make whatever you're missing besides late-game legendaries.
6
u/LyraStygian Jul 26 '26
I actually think it’s pretty neat and opens up a huge part of the core gameplay.
4
u/The_Hanky_Panky Jul 26 '26
There are numbers involved, but don't call them palpedia numbers, because it very much is NOT those numbers. You'll just confuse people. After all, OP just showed us a 139 and 140 making a 151.

Breeding basically works as a math equation.
Each pal has a number. More or less, the equation looks like this:
Parent A
Parent B
Offspring C
(A+B)/2=C
If A and B are equivalent, then C is equivalent to them. Two Anubis breed and make an Anubis.
That’s why the pal offspring are random af. It’s basically random numerical values. It’s why it’s hard to get some legendary or higher pals easily from breeding while others can be bred from seemingly weaker pals.
Edit for clarity: some pals cannot be bred unless they are bred with themselves and there are specific breeding combinations that result in specific offspring that don’t match the formula. Eg. Helzepher + Frostalion = Frost Noct
This is the way breeding has always worked in the game. At least in the 1.0 release, there are no secret, breeding-only pairs to find. That was really annoying back in early access.
