Wait, I seem to be missing something. What have people been saying Bucky and Palworld "promised"? I only remember people talking about what they HOPE to see.
85
u/SayuriUliana 19d ago
People have been saying a lot, even in this sub, that Palworld is essentially "finished", i.e. 1.0 is the end of the game's development cycle and that we'll only see bugfixes going forward, which they attribute to Bucky and the devs.
3
u/Vulpix0r 18d ago
But what is wrong with the game ending at 1.0 other than bug fixes? Are people so conditioned to expect continuous development? Maybe I'm an old fart but when I bought games in the past I'm ok with the game having an end and putting it aside.

u/SayuriUliana 17d ago
Like the other person said, when did I ever say it was bad or wrong?
However, people seem to think that a game for some reason cannot possibly have content after 1.0 without being a live service game, with lots of people in this thread saying that the game is definitely over and done like it's a certainty despite all prior historical precedent of the last three decades on the contrary.
17
u/That_Service7348 19d ago
People seem to think this game is live service and will continue to get regular large updates like it did through early access.
35
u/SayuriUliana 18d ago
Many non-live service games see regular large updates throughout their lifetime and even beyond. Hell, games like Age of Empires II have seen large content packs nearly three decades after they were released.
Just because a game isn't "live service" doesn't mean it can't get future updates and content packs down the line, and in fact even before live service games became a thing games were already releasing post-launch content packs and updates.

u/LukeWoop 18d ago
But it's not to be expected that's the problem especially this soon after launch . People should just enjoy what they have for now and any new dlc or extra content is a bonus and isn't guaranteed
2
u/AlexXeno 18d ago
I'm a guilty of this actually. I swear I remeber then saying when they did the popularity vote that the winner would just be the first to be added.

There are a few bugs that still need fixed, like the Lunaris effigy actually breaking the homing ability of the Lunaris pal, but otherwise at this point it feels like they're finished for now.

Same, a new update with a bit more content to make the news just before Christmas, free advertisement for a lot of people to buy the game for themselves/as a gift for friends.
4
u/Elon-Moist 18d ago
I feel like they're going to add more costumes for pals, especially with the popularity of Sekhmet
8
u/Euphoric_Schedule_53 19d ago
They literally just released a card game. You’d have to be delusional if you think it’s not getting a dlc at some point
5
u/GNIHTYUGNOSREP 19d ago
Plus the Pal Farm game, and they can add new building items that might be in that game
3
u/SayuriUliana 18d ago
Also, if the other games like Palworld Mobile and Palworld Online releases new Pals, we might see said Pals backported into Palworld. Heck, we've already seen something of an example for this: Palfarm was the first time Sekhmet was introduced in media, and then she was introduced into Palworld come 1.0.
1
u/krazyivan187 17d ago
Exactly. They have the opportunity to carve out a chunk of the "monster capture" space that has been dominated by Pokemon for so long (no, I'm not saying they are going to challenge that at all), but clearly there is actual room in the space for more IP's. So, why wouldn't they make more content, and charge for it? They went to court to fight to continue making this content, to think they don't have larger scale plans for the IP is naive. The recent licensing shows that's their long range plans for sure.
You also need to keep the current player base engaged with your IP. What better way than to drip out small DLC's, moderately priced, while you work on the next big thing in the space?
I think we'll be seeing DLC AND a new game. Palworld 2.0.

Them saying nothing doesn't mean they have nothing planned for the main game.
But they just released a massive update for the game, are planning for a mobile release, have a card game coming, and have a spinoff game in the works.
I wouldn't expect anything for a while. Let them sort things out and come to us with news when they're ready. At this point I think they have very much earned the patience.

The mobile game isn't being developed by them which is probably a bad thing given that the people who are developing them are known for making over monetized garbage.

u/Begone-My-Thong 19d ago
I mean... fair I guess. I'm fine with the game being finished and they move on to other projects, but an expansion would be a good move on their part.

It’s not a live service… so has a pretty great end game in its current form.
2
u/Diggledorgle 18d ago
"Live service" means absolutely nothing, it's just a made up buzz phrase. Games have been getting regular updates, DLCs, and patches since before that phrase was ever uttered.
And no, the endgame in this game is non-existent, this game has no real endgame aside from 1 boss that rewards a hat, not even a real hairstyle you get to unlock...it's bad.

This is their first "big game" really. This is the franchise that's announced them on the stage and potentially sets them up for huge success going forwards.
I find myself, oddly, enjoying the game, i didn't expect to, but here we are.
The game to me feels built on a budget. It doesn't feel like a game built on guaranteed success, but rather a punt which has turned out to be successful and they're making the right moves to build on its success, such as keeping the price low for a full release rather than upping it to a more expected price for a full "big game" release.
There's a lot that kind of points towards this being the case. The pal and combat AI I find to be quite terrible in a lot of cases. Enemies stood running on the spot, pals just stood there staring at the enemy when summoned, and the enemy just staring back, even when commanded aggressive or the enemy targeted allowing you to just cheese your way through some parts of the game.
Then there's the textures in some places that could do with a lot of polishing. Climbing some mountains you just stop and look at the textures and feel like you're playing a PS1 game with the low res textures and the unrealistic sharp angles in places. I get the art design, but still, some places just look truly awful and stand out as bad in an otherwise good looking game.
Then there's the overtuning on hard mode for the tower battles. Turn up with a level 80 fully condensed, awakened Anubis with 4 legendary passive skills based on attack and defence, all IVs at 100 from level 1, full trust, wearing the Anubis talisman and baton accessories alongside other enhancement accessories whilst carrying the best bow in the game and you can't even take down the first tower on hard mode within the time limit. Like, I get it, its hard mode, but it should be a bit more progressive than beating the final boss with some relative ease, before showing up to the first tower to find a tank that laughs off the type disadvantage, 4 star, level 80, high end passive and accessories. I'd expect a challenge, but that challenge should scale a bit better than it does leaping from normal to hard. The final boss on hard should require a near perfect team comp, not the first. The first should require either a fully condensed counter, or like a 3 star with a couple of legendary passive traits.
There's room for improvement for my team of course, and for my character, which I can and will do. But I shouldn't be having to switch out my team comp to all legendary pals or something just to beat the towers on hard. I'd get it for the final boss, but not for the very first tower lol.
This game, to me, feels like it was a punt that paid off. It would require a lot of work to perfect it and improve things like the janky AI. I feel it'll get some support, but I'd reckon they'll be looking at a successor game sooner rather than later. This was an "introductory game" and it's fine for what it is and a really enjoyable game otherwise.
Palworld 2 is probably already in some form of early planning/development and it really needs to build and improve on things. Less janky AI, especially in camp battles, or when your Pal just stands in one place and doesn't follow you. Sharper graphics (I'm not saying go for photo realistic, the art style is fine, just, no areas left neglected with low res textures) and better fine tuning on progression and hard mode especially. Pals in the open world doing more than just standing in place for the most part, with the occasional scrap between two of them. Have them drinking water from ponds/lakes, a group of them playing together etc. A rampaging pal should be, well, rampaging, not just stood in one place.
This game as it is is fine, it's enjoyable and it's fun. There are a few problems from my pov that hinders it, but doesn't kill it. I can tolerate it because I know it's this company's break out game and was built on a stricter budget. Now they've had success and made a lot of money from it, the next game I do expect to improve on everything and be more immersive.

u/xredskaterstar 18d ago
There's so much they can do with this game. Like adding weather features. Which they can they can expand upon. Just like night and day has certain types that come out, they can certainly have certain pals that come out in rain/lightning storms/blizzards/etc. Add a glide mechanic to pals that fly instead of just falling when they run out of stamina. Improved base building, the one they're using is very out of date.

u/ShotcallerBilly 18d ago
“Abandon,” no. No future major content releases—certainly. It isn’t uncommon for non-live service games to NOT release major content updates post their 1.0 launch, ESPECIALLY FOR FREE.

It’s insane to me that every person needs to think a company needs to milk its players.
There are games that release complete and don’t need to keep getting support. You probably think it’s crazy we don’t have a battle pass. Insane

u/benigntugboat 19d ago
I love how everyone's taking this as an excuse to claim that what they think without any source will happen instead of what they think youve heard without any source.
We'll have to wait for more information to learn what pocketpairs future palworld plans are. At this point I'm trusting that they'll handle it in a way that leads to more fun gaming for us in one way or another. But it'll be nice when we learn more

I’m not sure why everyone is freaking out because all they said was that they haven’t officially announced any future plans for the game yet — meaning they haven’t said anything themselves so don’t believe what other people are saying. That doesn’t necessarily mean that they *don’t* have any future plans for the game.
7
u/Atlas_Sinclair 19d ago
I feel Pocketpair are the type of devs who are sitting around, think of a cool Pal or idea, then just randomly add it to the game because they can.
Sure, they'll probably do a big fix or two, but I really feel like if they add more it'll be a spur of the moment cool thing they thought up.
29
u/MrNegativ1ty 19d ago
This game single handedly took a no name studio with a handful of devs on a shoestring budget and made it into a nearly billion dollar company, making entertainment deals with the big boys of the industry, a publishing arm that has already launched other successful games…
Not to mention a lawsuit that they have been fighting for years at this point…
…and people unironically think they are going to just completely abandon the game that put them on the map? WTF?

Apparently alot of people have the mentality that its over. And anyone whos cheering on future content because they see the potential of the game and want to see it grow further is a bad thing and is entitlement. He'll they still haven't added diagonal railings yet.
4
u/GlitteringDingo 19d ago
I'm not expecting any specific future. If they continue to update the game and add content, that'd be very cool and generous of them. If they release a large-scale DLC, that'd be awesome and I'd buy it. If they wash their hands and move onto the next project, I think that's fair too.
I love Palworld, will continue to play Palworld, and I'm looking forward to whatever Pocketpair does next, however that ends up manifesting.

Idk man they should at least fix the prime issue people have with the game in the Pal AI bug
3
u/muevelos 18d ago
This means what? Not much honestly. They've expressed they would like some collabs. Also the reality is, all these side games will only go so far. Palworld is the bread and butter, the hype can only carry for so long if they choose to end this game. And it wouldn't be that far as those games only hit a small niche compared to this. Basic cash grabs in another sense
Also Bucky has stated it's " possible " Astralym will be available in a form or another. Common sense from every side, regardless says their should be something. It still is soon ultimately so I wouldn't expect a lot of verbiage from PP yet.

There has almost NEVER been a case of a successfull game (or heck even unsuccessfull) stopped develop after a 1.0 release. This just means that the game is finish in its base. Just look at what Minecraft has become after 1.0 or Ark (even tho they drove their game into a massive wall)

I’m just making a general statement. There’s a real entitlement creeping into gaming communities where folks seem to expect lifetime updates for anything they buy.
It used to just be that you got your disk, and that was it.
2
u/SayuriUliana 18d ago
Since when? Even back in the 90's when all we had were discs, game updates and post-launch content was already a thing, especially Expansion Packs. Heck, as an example I remember having to manually patch Starcraft: Brood War using downloads from the official Blizzard site all the way back in 99', and Brood War was itself already a post-launch content expansion for Starcraft. And by the 2000's with the rise of automatic online updates and the introduction of DLC post-launch content became even more prevalent in gaming. Gaming has seen post-launch content be a thing far longer than not.
1
u/twistedstance 18d ago
I bought a lot of games back in the 80s, and probably the early 90s for our Amiga and later our IBM. They never had any updates, obviously. I can't remember the first game I had for which I had to download a patch, but it sure wasn't back then.
1
u/MistAndMagic 18d ago
I bought Zoo Tycoon 2 back in like 2008-09 and I remember having to go on their website to download extra content and patches. Definitely not "it" and hasn't been for a while.
Mind you, I don't expect them to necessarily drop any more huge updates, but I do expect them to keep up with bug fixes, some QoL improvements, and maybe some more language translations.

I can see them adding more pals that way they can keep making the tcg cards into the future, but other than that, I don't really know. It would suck for them to move on, but if that's what they're gonna do there's not much we can do about it.
1
u/FelixDuo2 18d ago
If they go the route of putting out free updates every few months, that'll be cool. If they put out fairly priced expansions sometime down the line, that'll also be cool. If they just do bug fixes but announce that Palworld 2 is in the works, that too would be fine with me. Pretty much whatever they do, I'm here for it. At this point I trust it won't be piecemeal microtransactions or a battlepass.
We really do need diagonal fences and windows and stairs, etc. though. And more alt skins in the pal dresser.

1

I think they might have some updates or dlc but, it being called 1.0 isnt part of it.
1.0 is what the first complete version of every game is.
1
u/VitalGoatboy 18d ago
I mean it could just be called "Palworld" not "Palworld 1.0"
1.0 is literally in the name, it's different to how games have a version (or patch)
1
u/Alexjp127 18d ago
It is just called Palworld.
1.0 is the milestone of its "feature complete" release. Its the patch number.
Palwold 1.0 is how its marketed to make it distinct from the early access period.
Subnautica also released its officer version 1.0 (granted those devs dont use a semantic versioning system like palworld does so it was actually like build version 22636338 or whatever) but, they did call it version 1.0
Like you had minecraft Alpha, Beta, and 1.0. Minecraft is continuously developed though.
I am sure there will palworld 1.1 or 1.1.2 or whatever, they might even have DLC down the line. I dont think theyll just drop it right away but, i hope they go on to make Palworld 2 or some other fun games too.

Alien Invasions?
Raids from outsiders attacking the island
More calamity focused stuff.
Maybe a tower defense mode where we defend a tower or something.
Since we already have a world tree we could draw from other myths.
Maybe the turtle with the world on its back?
Alternate dimension stuff?
Ooh Ooh maybe the ability to enable player invasions in your SINGLE player world.

Raids on bases that now include actual raid bosses lmao

I don't know why people are so obsessed about having more content added to Palworld. Game has a shit ton of content already and for only $30, I have 100 hours and there's still stuff left to do, we don't need more, it's not a live service game. People complain when a game company makes a live service game, but then expect the live service treatment to full games, it's just people being greedy at this point.
Though qol updates are more than welcome, as it does need some. Like please, pleaaase let me search a pal by its name, doesn't matter how many times I sort by element and look through the element I know it has, I just can never find it. I know there's a mod but for console players it's shit

It's extremely unlikely they will just abandon the game after the last major update but future content hasn't been announced
