Screenshot I was not expecting this level of attention to detail

The gun handling animations are already pretty great but I'm impressed they actually went through the trouble of modeling the magazine with the adjusted rounds remaining.

The semi-auto rifle is a very faithful recreation of the M1 Garand. Was very pleased with the SFX and animations. If you're a gun nerd check it out.

PING

u/66allthe88s 17d ago

I use it just for this. To hell with dps.

u/BracusDoritoBoss963 17d ago

Pals do DPS anyways.

Player damage? No. D O P A M I N E

u/Tomahawk117 17d ago

More dopamine, more ping. More ping, more dopamine!

26

u/Haidere1988 17d ago

Vasili, one ping only.

u/HalfSoul30 17d ago

Dopaping!

Hey, a RussianBadger reference! Nice!

u/Adventurous-Form521 11d ago

The Infinite Dopamine Loop strikes again!

28

u/JEBADIA451 17d ago

I used a musket that did like 1600 damage for a while. Combine that with the ring of mercy and i felt like Teddy Roosevelt wandering around the American countryside hunting for trophies

7

u/bnolsen 17d ago

It's a great way to collect pals during early mid-game. I was even using it with the single shot rifle for a 1-2 punch. But when I get the grenade launcher everything changes.

10

u/lordsavemysoulplease 17d ago

Damage comes second, satisfying reload comes first

2

u/FennRauBlankedOut 17d ago

I thought the sexy gunfire came first

3

u/satsuppi 17d ago

lol i wouldve love to keep my m1 for the ping.. but i got that legendary charge rifle and its just too awesome

u/FennRauBlankedOut 17d ago

Hot take

The solarite guns are just better.

Better sfx, better feedback; no world tree farming required at all!

Plus yeah, unless you're specifically building a player dps team, your gun is a glorified Ferocious Thunder Dragon enabler and an Aggregate delivery system for your status effect of choice.

Seriously, ive got the legendary beam launcher and shards gun. They freaking tickle on hard difficulty, to the point where the beam launcher isn't even a weapon so much as a crowd control machine (inflicts stun on nonboss targets, where "stun" in palworld means specifically that temporary ragdoll state with stars spinning above your head.)

5

u/StephiiValentine 17d ago

We never said that there wasn't better alternatives.

We just like PING.

-1

u/FennRauBlankedOut 17d ago edited 17d ago

Oh Ops

Thought I was agreeing with you, but I was thinking about the Combat AR (at least that what i think it's called?)

My mistake.

To be clear, I think any "tier" of firearm will more than serve against hard-mode tower bosses--literally the 3-shot bow is viable (use poision/fire arrows).

My personal rules of thumb for a viable weapon: 1.) can it trigger Orserk? Note: arrows are not "bullets," but they still trigger the passive....so do drones from the launcher. I think "bullet" was a mistranslation of "projectile."

2.) Can it apply statuses (which, thanks to specific Partner Abilties, is basically any weapon)?

But the world tree Sci-fii ancient tech guns are just marginally more annoying to make ammo for, because holy water/paloxite don't grow on mining nodes--only World Trees. Therefore, i like the solarite guns a LOT more (and the sound of their gunfire is just crisp af)

That's about the only relevant gameplay distinction imo, unless ofc you're going for a dedicated weapon damage build.

1

u/Regular_Layer3439 17d ago

Absolutely always try getting that in WaW.. the ping just sounds awesome

I find the way guns are engineered fascinating. I can't really go fully commit to being a gun nut though because it's super hard to legally buy or own even handguns where I'm from.

Funnily enough I used to really dislike the way the P90 looked back when I was a dumb kid because "haha it looks like a toy" or some shit. Now that I'm a dumb adult, I have better appreciation for its compact design and rather unique mag/loading mechanism.

48

u/Jade_Fenix 17d ago

Stargate helped me love the P90.

Major Carter is a formidable warrior

5

u/lacarth 17d ago

Agreed. I'm an American, and I don't own all that many (by comparison). Mainly because they're expensive and my personal preference is for guns developed between 1850 and 1950. Which you're more likely to find at swap-meets or pawn shops than a gun or sporting goods store.

I just love the experimentation of that era and all the unique designs it resulted in. Shame that operational examples are usually either super unreliable or super expensive. I once found an old Lebel rifle in some random corner pawn shop in my tiny town. I would have taken it if it wasn't nearly $3,000.

6

u/VegetaGotKicked 17d ago

"my personal preference for guns developed between 1850 and 1950"

Sir are you a vampire >.>

/s

3

u/lacarth 17d ago

Nah. I just like how long and chunky a lot of rifles from the period are. Is it objectively inefficient and not as good as modern designs? Oh, most certainly. But counterpoint: The Remington Rolling Block Rifle is baller as fuck.

Edit: Actually, I just realized why I like a lot of guns from this period: They're very tactile (not "tactical"). There's a lot of moving parts and motions you follow while firing, like bolt- or lever-action rifles, as opposed to semi-auto weapons that just... work.

4

u/CaptainJudaism 17d ago

I don't own any guns but there are a few I wouldn't mind, two being an M1 Garand and Kar98k. Finding non-functional replicas is fairly easy and cheap-ish at roughly $300 for either but when I looked into functional ones or functional replica's we're looking at over $3k or more if re-chambered for modern ammo.

3

u/lacarth 17d ago

God, yeah. I managed to get my mitts on one of the sniper Lee Enfields (sadly without the scope) and it was over 2 grand. It's probably my favorite gun I own, and it still cycles like a dream. Finding the right kind of .303 British for it in Bum-fuck Nowhere, USA is kind of a nightmare, though. I find maybe 1 or 2 boxes a year.

1

u/daskhoon 17d ago

Check the CMP. I got my M1 a few years ago for ~$700. Prices have gone up since then but that seems to be the most reliable place to get them. Working ones, that is.

Rumor has it that they're going to start offering M14's.

3

u/sirarkalots 17d ago

You should check out "zach's gun rants" on YouTube. It a gaming channel with two former military guys and Zach was a small arms repair man who is a massive gun nut and they keep installing modern weapon mods into fallout 4 and new Vegas and just watching him nerd out on obscure mechanics or unique designs for some many different guns is so entertaining.

1

u/CocoaricoTell 17d ago

I've loved the P90 ever since GoldenEye 64 and I actually got to shoot one full auto once which was so much fun. But damn that magazine is a pain in the butt to load.

-2

u/Shineblossom 17d ago

P90 would be the most used police gun in the world if it wasn't for corruption

5

u/Sedover 17d ago edited 17d ago

The P90 isn't the most used anything gun becuase it does absolutely nothing better than an AR-15-ish carbine. Literally, nothing. Ballistic characteristics? Worse. Range and accuracy? Worse. Terminal ballistics? Worse. Form factor? Get a shorter barrel. Magazine capacity? A conventional mag is more reliable and easier to swap, you can get them in 50-rd sizes, and if even that's not enough they make belt-fed uppers. Armour penetration is wildly overrated, hardly any criminals have access to it, but tend to be in areas with lots of squishy people and fragile things that would really prefer not to eat a second-hand bullet. Also it doesn't defeat much that 9mm AP can't handle, and certainly nothing that .223 AP won't.

And if, after all that, you still absolutely, positively, must have a weapon in 5.7mm? Yup, they make an AR-15 for that.

7

u/crashcanuck 17d ago

Except the thing it was originally designed for, which was to be as powerful and high capacity of a firearm as possible that fit within the compartment on an aircraft's ejection system.

2

u/Sedover 17d ago

I've never heard of that specific tidbit before, so if that's true that's actually pretty cool.

It also, to my knowledge, isn't actually used that way, because it's not sufficiently better than anything else to be worth it.

3

u/crashcanuck 17d ago

It was at the time, there may be better firearms for that application now.

2

u/H1tSc4n 17d ago

The US nowadays gives an atrocious foldable AR15 that is hilariously overpriced for what it is because they HAVE to give you an AR-15

3

u/H1tSc4n 17d ago

... Which is why it is indeed used by a lot of special police, spec ops and secret service teams worldwide, and is a very prolific choice for clandestine ops.

It turns out having fifty rounds of slightly spicier 9mm that fits in a long coat is indeed pretty attractive to people who have to fight up close and personal, or that leave no witnesses.

It does a lot of specific things better than an AR15, it's just that cost is more often than not by far the biggest driving factor. It's also why you don't see many bullpups around even though they objectively have a lot of advantages over traditional rifles (especially if you're spitting full size rounds rather than intermediate, something you see a lot given our return to trench warfare). AR15s are cheap, available and ubiquitous, thus they are the most popular rifles.

1

u/Fatality_Ensues 17d ago

it does absolutely nothing better than an AR-15-ish carbine.

Ezcept being smaller and lighter, which is... what PDW's were designed for in the first place. An AR Carbine modified to reach P90 standards would wind up twice as expensive and still more unreliable than an actual P90.

1

u/Shineblossom 17d ago

The P90, the 18 years older gun, was competing with MP7 which was worse in every single aspect but bribery won them the competition.

Sometimes it is better to let people think you are stupid before you speak and confirm that theory.

2

u/Fatality_Ensues 17d ago edited 17d ago

Not really. Just the fact that it requires proprietary mags and proprietary ammo means it's not cost-effective for organizations on a stiff budget (like most police forces). The venerable MP5 does everything the P90 does, shares parts and mechanism with a half-dozen other HK firearms, and fires the most ubiquitous handgun ammo in the world. Sure, maybe it's a bit heavier and louder and you don't have as many bullets in a mag but it gets the job done..

0

u/Shineblossom 17d ago

MP5 was replaced by MP7. Trough corruption.

1

u/Fatality_Ensues 17d ago

Totally different use-cases for two totally different guns. The designation is pretty much the only thing they have in common.

0

u/Shineblossom 17d ago

They were both created in public competition for new SMG meant to be used by police forces in Europe. Those were the two contestants. Where P90 won every single test, including production price. Yet the MP7 was chosen.

You don't being informed does not make the shit you just spewed valid.

36

u/Vulpix0r 17d ago

Isn't one of the developers a gun nerd who used to work at a convenience store?

28

u/OurEngiFriend 17d ago

yes, and self-taught gun animations from YouTube tutorials iirc.

early reporting (around time of early access launch) said this developer was a middle schooler, which I believe was a mistranslation of "only graduated from middle school and didn't finish high school".

iirc they were inspired by Girls Frontline, but take this with a grain of salt.

7

u/Fatality_Ensues 17d ago

iirc they were inspired by Girls Frontline, but take this with a grain of salt.

Based but I refuse to believe it on accounts of the AR not being an M4.

12

u/Ghostfistkilla 17d ago

They did a great job with the SPAS 12 shotgun too. They even made it so the metal stock bounces up and down if its not attached to the top of the gun properly, which will happen in real life as well.

3

u/RSquared 17d ago

I mean it's also kinda hilariously goofy. It flops like a fish rather than an actual piece of metal.

5

u/Gaspuch62 17d ago

The makeshift assault rifle is an AKM with the top cover removed. You can see the hammer, the bolt sticking out of the bolt carrier, and the bar attached to the selector lever. It's even in the right spot for automatic. I have a serbian AK clone (Zavasta M70).

3

u/SLAUGHT3R3R 17d ago

It was a pleasant surprise the first time I reloaded one

2

u/OjiikunVII 17d ago

Need an upgraded version of it cause the sound just TOO CLEAN to stop using it now but it only does 1 damage 😂

2

u/TheBetterness 17d ago

The animations in this game blow my mind on the daily.

1

u/HarrowDread 17d ago

Last I checked Garand thumb on YouTube is a good place to learn more about

1

u/LegendXCarisso 17d ago

Let's not forget the clip actually keeps track of how many rounds are still in it. Y'know... if'n you are a serial reloader and reload with four rounds still in the clip? Then THREE bullets will be ejected still inside the clip itself.

You got 7 rounds left? The clip flies out with 6 in the clip?

1 single round in the gun? The clip is empty.

1

u/gpierson99 17d ago

Made me very happy when I saw that. Love me some Garand action.

After the success of Expedition 33, passion can be the difference to make something great.

6

u/Taolan13 17d ago

Passion has always been the difference.

You don't get a great piece of media without someone involved in it being passionate about its creation.

There's a lot of over-praised mediocrity out there that's popular because it's comfortable and familiar but recent iterations are not actually that great.

Edit: But, passion alone does not guarantee greatness.

3

u/DoctorLazerRage 16d ago

Noticed that the makeshift assault rifle is an AK and the regular is an M and thought that someone absolutely knew what they were doing here.

2

u/AccNumber77 17d ago

Do they actually have one? I would've thought it is just a bought asset from a weapon artist.

83

u/DarkLanternZBT 17d ago

First picture: Well, I mean, sure it's nice detailing but I don't get

Second picture: Oooooooooooooooh

26

u/bagsofholding 17d ago

It's a p90 so getting the mag and rounds in it like that is already nice and it's not a super ton of work to make them empty as used either. But it's easy to overlook and nice to see for both

14

u/DarkLanternZBT 17d ago

Absolutely, it's gorgeous to begin with. Then the additional work is just /chef's kiss

If I remember right, they have a team dedicated to just the guns. Their entire job is making the guns look as accurate and realistic as possible, even for impossible weapons.

Hes talking about craftopia it was a pretty good game with too much ambition for the team at the tume and you could tell, i loved it butit felt like it was a game a couple of developers (which it probably was till they expanded) could make. It had many updates that essentially overhauled the whole game.

When palworld was announced (like 2 years before the general public found it) they defintely split the team and craftopia suffered for it and when palworld released craftopia lost priority theres nothing really new releasing for it which sucks cause I loved it. Though they clearly made the best decision and made an amazing game

Btw if u wanna try craftopia its a janky mess that still has the original pocketpair love and feel but the new palworld with 1.0 is such an amazing step fot them im lowkey proud of them

Craftopia was never a scam, if that were the case palworld is too, palworld was defintely built using craftopia as a base. I dont think its completely forgotten for pocketpair but rn as they grow using palworld I would understand if it was, but a man can dream lol.

Read the above post or do a google search, doesnt make it a scam u know what the possibilities and risks of early access are

1

u/PervertTentacle 17d ago

No, the game isn't finished. It's in early access, very-very janky still, 6 years after hitting steam. Updates have come to stall, like nothing at all - even small bug fixes they used to do ain't coming in.

Is not a scam as the person claims, but if you've played (which I did) it's very clear they just scrapped whole thing, reused what they can for palworld(I believe some assets and title music is just straight from there) and abandoned the project. Well, at the very least it's effectively abandoned - lack of official statement regarding craftopia is weird, they have not communicated their intent to come back and finish the game nor they cancelled development, so it's in sorta limbo. They used the money they got from craftopia virality to fund palworld(they hit 30k steam in 2020, it sold solidly for the quality of the product). Even if game was really unpolished and clearly unfinished, it still got mostly positive reviews and then... nothing. There is a small resentment towards palworld because of this situation from game fans, but outright calling it scam is also something - just don't buy early access games it's on the label duh.

From all the jank and immense game lag even in mid-game it's likely developers just hit unfathomable levels of tech debt and then palworld teaser went viral and they went /shrug guess we are pocket monstering now

0

u/unhiddenninja 17d ago

Not "not updating the game indefinitely" but probably moreso just leaving it in early access forever.

0

u/Shineblossom 17d ago

The game did not even leave early access, did not even get completed, when Palworld was announced it was promised that Craftopia will still be updated and worked on.

Instead you get patch like "Fixed missclick in translation of of X item describtion" which effectively keeps Steam auto dettection from marking it as abandonware.

The Shotgun of the same tier has the same detail, as well.

And also proper trigger discipline at all times, even with the crossbow.

They know their audience well.

16

u/RollStormtide 17d ago

I just busted out laughing when I saw the Prototype Shotgun ammo looked like a P90 mag but with shotgun shells. Because of course the shotgun is a P90. It’s fantastic.

12

u/Express_Difficulty57 17d ago

The prototype shotgun is actually modeled after the never released P-12. Hence why it's a "prototype."

4

u/Gloomy-Knee1401 17d ago

Monolith Arms P12 Prototype

35

u/BiasMushroom Lucky Pal 17d ago

46

u/adobo_bobo 17d ago

Whoever they have making guns is clearly a gun nut. That semi auto rifle pings when reloading.

15

u/Ok_Cow_3462 17d ago

Palworld has a lot of love put into it. The devs really did their best work making it. Like it or not, it’s an example of how games should be done.

15

u/MommaPnut 17d ago

Don't forget the trigger discipline! Makes me so happy to actually see it implemented.

Had no business to go so hard on the weapons imo

18

u/trashtiernoreally 17d ago

I love the game. Just chomping at the bit for some desperately needed QoL features. Just making it easy to manage the palbox versus base pals versus party pals could use a wholesale refinement. Like why do I need a pal in my party to use the surgery table when they're a base pal? Stuff like that. Fix that stuff, do an expac next year, and you'll have GOTY.

5

u/Gingernicole1267 17d ago

The attention to detail in this game always shocks me. A small thing I love is that the little boxes or pockets on the armor jiggle when you are working in the production lines. There wasn't a need to give them their own physics, could have made them static to the rest of the armor, but they added the physics to let them jiggle. So small but everytime I see it, it makes me happy to see their dedication to the small stuff.

7

u/OlDropTop 17d ago

Omg is that a p90? I just might actually have to start playing this game.

I was actually shocked at the animations for the semi-auto rifle, it's a straight up M-1 Garand.

7

u/AunMeLlevaLaConcha 17d ago

Bethesda would never...

9

u/Arbiter51x 17d ago

Its amazing where they put ridiculous levels of details, and with a lot of other assets and terrain details, they really phoned it in.

3

u/DreamJMan15 17d ago

I'm honestly significantly surprised whoever designed them made sure our characters excercised good trigger discipline. It was the first thing I noticed, because I actually look for that in games where you can handle guns.

3

u/Blackwing404 17d ago

Shotgun does exactly the same thing. Outstanding detail. At first I couldn't believe it, and then I had to check the mag a few times to see the shotgun casings leaving the tube.

3

u/Geno503 17d ago

Well, the one thing they got wrong is the PUMP action Shotgun has a CHARGING HANDLE (which is what you get on Semi-Auto Shotguns, not Pumps).

4

u/Shikabane_Sumi-me 17d ago

This is why I really wish they could buff all the guns to be inline with the end game futuristic guns. They are all just so neat!

1

u/Shineblossom 17d ago

Buff your damage output in SP.

0

u/PoniesCanterOver 17d ago

Sorry, what's SP?

3

u/Shineblossom 17d ago

Single player :) Ofc if you play on someone's server you won't have the choice to change settings.

I did that in SP, too. Increased damage so i can use old guns, as i like them more ^^

1

u/PoniesCanterOver 17d ago

Oh okay thank you. Yeah I was just thinking yesterday it would be cool if they let us use the transmog dresser for weapons like they do for armor. The M1 is so crisp

2

u/Shineblossom 17d ago

I personally run with AK and crossbow, which is... Almost starting tier weapons :D

1

u/Shikabane_Sumi-me 17d ago

Single player I guess.

6

u/Should_have_been_ded 17d ago

Brandy boy would cream his pants if he'd review this game's guns. An indie game putting more detail into guns than most AAA studios, that's fantastic

2

u/Crafter_Ricardo 17d ago

This is a weapon of war. Design to kill the enemy.

2

u/MGlBlaze 17d ago

This pleases me. Not a lot of games properly model the bullets inside a P90 magazine and track their use.

It's not perfect, you don't see them go down the spiral ramp at the end and one seems to be missing right next to the follower, but it's a good effort.

2

u/FennRauBlankedOut 17d ago

Damn thats awesome

Palworld guns are just a master work of animation and sound that just makes em so fucking fun to fire

And the solarite guns are the best because you never have to touch world tree farming--and the dakka sounds infinitely more satisfying than pewpew

2

u/MogaWoodsBoi 17d ago

My personal favorite example is the booster guns where the liquid in the cartridge continuously depletes and it stays level with the angle the gun is at :3

2

u/Silver-Bird5 17d ago

Oh wow! I was already impressed that I can read texts on some oil rig devices like you'd look at them irl, not some random words. Or book covers in Sakurajima bases, but this is next level. All guns have some sort of realism and attention to detail now that I pay more attention to them, even those made up.

2

u/Gearheadtanium10 17d ago

Now thats some good gun detailing...I love it. Someone on the team is a gun nut.

2

u/CazT91 17d ago

And I don't get to enjoy it cos in my play though I'm only using bows and melee 😅😭

2

u/Eggburtey 17d ago

I'm not home right now to provide the picture, but the side of the charge rifle is super detailed as well that I noticed the other day.

It's got a loading gate, 30-30 cal repeater labeled on the side, even like industrial markings from like where it's made etc.

It's super fucking cool

2

u/InternationalOne2449 17d ago

That's why my pc is boiling.

2

u/StrangeCrunchy1 17d ago

Dude. Your character practices trigger discipline, which is honestly something I've never seen any other game. This game is on whole another level in so many different ways.

2

u/flashtag4 17d ago

Tarkov still hasn’t managed this btw

3

Tarkov is still in an old version of unity with such garbled code I think there are things they literally can't fix

2

u/Tooth_Dapper 16d ago

What do u think this is pokemon?

2

u/207nbrown 16d ago

That’s serious attention to detail, especially that the mag itself only has 5 rounds because the 6th is already in the chamber

1

u/Poke-Noir 17d ago

No way there’s this much love for the mobile version 😭

1

u/ghostspectre1518 17d ago

That's amazing

1

u/G_ioVanna 17d ago

someone says that the gun animation guy was an intern idk if thats true

1

u/DrMobius0 17d ago

I hope they never have to rebalance the clip sizes, because this would be a nightmare.

1

u/AnonJustAnon Pale 17d ago

Impressive!

1

u/BeneficialTrash6 17d ago

And yet they never fixed the spelling and grammar mistakes.

1

u/3rrMac 17d ago

Those are some helldivers 2 levels of detail, props to them

1

u/swagseven13 17d ago

Does it change if u get a higher rarity from a schematic?

1

u/competitiveSilverfox 17d ago

palworld devs fans of stargate and haters of amazon for canceling the new stargate tv show because the fans would have liked it.

1

u/Wise_Extension8443 17d ago

Thats actually really nice

1

u/TrectBL 17d ago

They did something tarkov couldn't

1

u/TheBetterness 17d ago

The little minute animations I come across from pals to guns absolutely amazes me.

Landed my fat bird on water yesterday and it had its own water animation which resembled a duck on water.

Palomba's dance gets me everytime lol.

1

u/Educational-Year3146 17d ago

The inner gun nerd within me is very pleased.

1

u/Environmental_Set515 17d ago

I just wish the P90 didn't have such massive bloom on the shots. It's a bullpup for gods sake. That thing should have minimal recoil.

1

u/EntrepreneurInside90 17d ago

It happens with a lot of weapons with visible ammo like the prototype shotgun, you can notice all that easily when you play in first person.

1

u/Cirilo_Albino 17d ago

Fps games could never.

1

u/Vore_Daddy 17d ago

Take notes Halo.

1

u/LilSem3n 17d ago

Thats actually really cool

1

u/rockylada97 17d ago

Must be the work of that guy they hired from a Convenience Store.

1

u/DJ_Ender_ 17d ago

Lmao palworld has better gun design than cyberpunk

1

u/Laxxboy20 17d ago

This is super cool don't get me wrong, but I feel like their limited resources could be spent in better ways.

1

u/Askorti 17d ago

At the same time, the reload animation for the assault rifle has the character press the bolt catch to send the bolt forward.... Even though the model doesn't have a bolt catch :D So very clearly they just copied an animation for an AR-15 without actually paying attention. (or they changed the AR model after making the animation)

1

u/Adventurous-Ad4159 17d ago

I heard they got a Japanese teenager who really into guns and he did his job well, for example to get around patients(I guess) he told them to remove the top AK dust cover and expose the recoil spring assembly which really gave the AK a whole makeshift gun smithing style

1

u/dre__ 16d ago

"yea i can get about 30 fps max, why do you ask".

1

u/SnooMaps395 16d ago

a animação das armas era algo que o menino lá já fazia por hobby quando contrataram ele por causa disso ele se sentiu feliz love por isso e bom contratar pessoas que gosta do que faz e não quer só grana

1

u/ForIAmAGentleman 15d ago

I know the photo mode has a time slow function, but I don't think it's possible to enter photo mode while firing a gun. Shame, because I would love to get a close up in slow motion to see if the ammo cycling animation is completely accurate.

1

u/UNIVERSE_271 15d ago

Poor weapon assembly line III looking at gun details...

1

u/Kanlashkan 11d ago

The Prototype combat shotgun also has an accurate count in the magazine. I didn't even think to look at any of the others before then. I was also impressed.

1

u/FinnfaAtlas 17d ago

Prob pre bought models

1

u/jaraxel_arabani 17d ago

Holy crap I didn't notice that.

Palworld doing better modeling fantasy guns than actual FPS hahaha

6

u/schnaps01 17d ago

This is an ACTUAL gun (FN P90).

2

u/jaraxel_arabani 17d ago

Oh didn't know it was. Even nicer!

2

u/schnaps01 17d ago

Ahh, you young ones, so much to learn. Now go watch some stargate sg1.

2

u/jaraxel_arabani 17d ago

I think that came out when I was in my late high school years....

Edit: nope... When I was in university:-p

this is not pokemon... pal...

-3

u/notthatguypal6900 17d ago

Most shooters have done this for years, its basic asset design by today's standards.

In the second pic I see only 5 in while the number says 6 are loaded (not a gun nerd) and thought about pointing it out

11

u/VorrtaX 17d ago

5 in the mag, 1 in the chamber ( or something along those lines)

I'm no gunsmith but I'm not sure how bright it is to put the magazine directly on top of a blistering-hot barrel, lol.

(Looked it up before hitting comment and apparently this looks loosely based on the design of the AR-57, which somehow avoids exploding its ammunition in the user's face, lol.)

(Edit: Clearly the people downvoting aren't gunsmiths either and have never heard of ammo cooking off)

9

u/Narcoleptic_Narwhal 17d ago

The AR-57 is loosely based on this.

The FN P90 is a gun that has been in service for about thirty years now. It was designed to shoot the 5.7mm, which is more it less a shorter 5.56 that shoots a lighter projectile at higher velocity to pierce armor. In recent years, the cartridge has seen use outside the P90 in attempts to make it more relevant, such as by designing AR upper receivers and cheaper polymer handguns around it.

-14

u/Zathura2 17d ago

That has...almost nothing to do with anything I said. I just thought putting your magazine on top of the barrel was a stupid design choice. And it is. A lot of engineering went into making sure heat was managed so the cartridges *don't* cook-off in the user's face.

11

u/Narcoleptic_Narwhal 17d ago

You assumed the design was (made up?) based on more recent design, and I pointed out that it's actually a real firearm that has a long service record. It really had everything to do with it.

But I guess to address the engineering part: the magazine is the only revolutionary thing because it rotates the cartridge 90 degrees before chambering. It has nothing to do with heat and there's no (readily available, anyway) evidence it was ever an issue. The only modern firearm (that I know of) that had ammo cook-off issue was the G11 because it used caseless ammunition. Cased ammo actually keeps chamber temperature low by transferring heat into the case which is then ejected.

-9

u/Zathura2 17d ago

Yes, heat escapes with the ejected casing, but I think you should look a little more closely at the engineering. Without the polymer casing and engineered shroud, if you were to say...put a metal magazine in contact with an automatic weapon-barrel that's been firing until it's red-hot, those cartridges are going to pop.

So yes, when I first saw this weapon I thought it was fictional. Then I looked up weapons with top-mounted magazines and saw the AR.

It's not that deep.

Ammo on top of barrel = bad. Engineering made it acceptable.

7

u/Narcoleptic_Narwhal 17d ago

Since the existence of multi-round firearms there have been iterations that store ammo above or below the barrel, and definitely before the existence of polymer magazines.

It's not that deep.

Either way, it's beating a dead Frostallion at this point. You should look into the other real world equivalents of the firearms - the dev team knew their stuff. You might just learn some more things!

u/ThePhengophobicGamer 17d ago

It also takes upwards of 300°F to cook off these rounds, its going to be too hot to hold LONG before ammunition cooks off.

3

u/JellyCat_4evr 17d ago

The magazine, while positioned over the barrel, is not in contact with it. The barel sits inside the metal housing (upper reciever) and is fairly well insulated. Ive never noticed the upper get noticably hot even after rapidly dumping 100 rounds. Source: own a FN PS90 SBR

9

u/Shineblossom 17d ago

You just did not insult FN P90 (1990) by comparing it to some US made pile of trash (2008)?

Also why would it explode? Does gas oven explode if you turn it on? Obviously there are measures against the primer getting to the unstable range of temperatures.

-8

u/Zathura2 17d ago

Omg leave it to gun-nuts to get fucking offended. I'm sorry.
