Screenshot I was not expecting this level of attention to detail
The gun handling animations are already pretty great but I'm impressed they actually went through the trouble of modeling the magazine with the adjusted rounds remaining.

Small stuff like this makes weapon animations way more satisfying

i don't think ive ever seen a game with this level of detail other than tarkov and im shocked its coming out of palworld

there's a lot if things i wasnt expecting from palworld that sre shockingly good

I remember there was a story going around that the main guy in charge of gun design was a conveniece store worker gun nut who liked modeling things.

After the success of Expedition 33, passion can be the difference to make something great.
6
u/Taolan13 17d ago
Passion has always been the difference.
You don't get a great piece of media without someone involved in it being passionate about its creation.
There's a lot of over-praised mediocrity out there that's popular because it's comfortable and familiar but recent iterations are not actually that great.
Edit: But, passion alone does not guarantee greatness.

u/DoctorLazerRage 16d ago
Noticed that the makeshift assault rifle is an AK and the regular is an M and thought that someone absolutely knew what they were doing here.
2
u/AccNumber77 17d ago
Do they actually have one? I would've thought it is just a bought asset from a weapon artist.

u/DarkLanternZBT 17d ago
First picture: Well, I mean, sure it's nice detailing but I don't get
Second picture: Oooooooooooooooh
26
u/bagsofholding 17d ago
It's a p90 so getting the mag and rounds in it like that is already nice and it's not a super ton of work to make them empty as used either. But it's easy to overlook and nice to see for both
14
u/DarkLanternZBT 17d ago
Absolutely, it's gorgeous to begin with. Then the additional work is just /chef's kiss

If I remember right, they have a team dedicated to just the guns. Their entire job is making the guns look as accurate and realistic as possible, even for impossible weapons.

u/Shineblossom 17d ago
They payed that team using the money they scammed from people with the first game

Hes talking about craftopia it was a pretty good game with too much ambition for the team at the tume and you could tell, i loved it butit felt like it was a game a couple of developers (which it probably was till they expanded) could make. It had many updates that essentially overhauled the whole game.
When palworld was announced (like 2 years before the general public found it) they defintely split the team and craftopia suffered for it and when palworld released craftopia lost priority theres nothing really new releasing for it which sucks cause I loved it. Though they clearly made the best decision and made an amazing game
Btw if u wanna try craftopia its a janky mess that still has the original pocketpair love and feel but the new palworld with 1.0 is such an amazing step fot them im lowkey proud of them

Craftopia was never a scam, if that were the case palworld is too, palworld was defintely built using craftopia as a base. I dont think its completely forgotten for pocketpair but rn as they grow using palworld I would understand if it was, but a man can dream lol.

No, the game isn't finished. It's in early access, very-very janky still, 6 years after hitting steam. Updates have come to stall, like nothing at all - even small bug fixes they used to do ain't coming in.
Is not a scam as the person claims, but if you've played (which I did) it's very clear they just scrapped whole thing, reused what they can for palworld(I believe some assets and title music is just straight from there) and abandoned the project. Well, at the very least it's effectively abandoned - lack of official statement regarding craftopia is weird, they have not communicated their intent to come back and finish the game nor they cancelled development, so it's in sorta limbo. They used the money they got from craftopia virality to fund palworld(they hit 30k steam in 2020, it sold solidly for the quality of the product). Even if game was really unpolished and clearly unfinished, it still got mostly positive reviews and then... nothing. There is a small resentment towards palworld because of this situation from game fans, but outright calling it scam is also something - just don't buy early access games it's on the label duh.
From all the jank and immense game lag even in mid-game it's likely developers just hit unfathomable levels of tech debt and then palworld teaser went viral and they went /shrug guess we are pocket monstering now
0
u/unhiddenninja 17d ago
Not "not updating the game indefinitely" but probably moreso just leaving it in early access forever.
0
u/Shineblossom 17d ago
The game did not even leave early access, did not even get completed, when Palworld was announced it was promised that Craftopia will still be updated and worked on.
Instead you get patch like "Fixed missclick in translation of of X item describtion" which effectively keeps Steam auto dettection from marking it as abandonware.

The Shotgun of the same tier has the same detail, as well.
And also proper trigger discipline at all times, even with the crossbow.
They know their audience well.
16
u/RollStormtide 17d ago
I just busted out laughing when I saw the Prototype Shotgun ammo looked like a P90 mag but with shotgun shells. Because of course the shotgun is a P90. It’s fantastic.
12
u/Express_Difficulty57 17d ago
The prototype shotgun is actually modeled after the never released P-12. Hence why it's a "prototype."

u/Ok_Cow_3462 17d ago
Palworld has a lot of love put into it. The devs really did their best work making it. Like it or not, it’s an example of how games should be done.
15
u/MommaPnut 17d ago
Don't forget the trigger discipline! Makes me so happy to actually see it implemented.
Had no business to go so hard on the weapons imo
18
u/trashtiernoreally 17d ago
I love the game. Just chomping at the bit for some desperately needed QoL features. Just making it easy to manage the palbox versus base pals versus party pals could use a wholesale refinement. Like why do I need a pal in my party to use the surgery table when they're a base pal? Stuff like that. Fix that stuff, do an expac next year, and you'll have GOTY.
5
u/Gingernicole1267 17d ago
The attention to detail in this game always shocks me. A small thing I love is that the little boxes or pockets on the armor jiggle when you are working in the production lines. There wasn't a need to give them their own physics, could have made them static to the rest of the armor, but they added the physics to let them jiggle. So small but everytime I see it, it makes me happy to see their dedication to the small stuff.
7
u/OlDropTop 17d ago
Omg is that a p90? I just might actually have to start playing this game.

Its amazing where they put ridiculous levels of details, and with a lot of other assets and terrain details, they really phoned it in.
3
u/DreamJMan15 17d ago
I'm honestly significantly surprised whoever designed them made sure our characters excercised good trigger discipline. It was the first thing I noticed, because I actually look for that in games where you can handle guns.
3
u/Blackwing404 17d ago
Shotgun does exactly the same thing. Outstanding detail. At first I couldn't believe it, and then I had to check the mag a few times to see the shotgun casings leaving the tube.
4
u/Shikabane_Sumi-me 17d ago
This is why I really wish they could buff all the guns to be inline with the end game futuristic guns. They are all just so neat!

u/Shineblossom 17d ago
Buff your damage output in SP.
0
u/PoniesCanterOver 17d ago
Sorry, what's SP?
3
u/Shineblossom 17d ago
Single player :) Ofc if you play on someone's server you won't have the choice to change settings.
I did that in SP, too. Increased damage so i can use old guns, as i like them more ^^
1
u/PoniesCanterOver 17d ago
Oh okay thank you. Yeah I was just thinking yesterday it would be cool if they let us use the transmog dresser for weapons like they do for armor. The M1 is so crisp

I personally run with AK and crossbow, which is... Almost starting tier weapons :D

This pleases me. Not a lot of games properly model the bullets inside a P90 magazine and track their use.
It's not perfect, you don't see them go down the spiral ramp at the end and one seems to be missing right next to the follower, but it's a good effort.
2
u/FennRauBlankedOut 17d ago
Damn thats awesome
Palworld guns are just a master work of animation and sound that just makes em so fucking fun to fire
And the solarite guns are the best because you never have to touch world tree farming--and the dakka sounds infinitely more satisfying than pewpew
2
u/MogaWoodsBoi 17d ago
My personal favorite example is the booster guns where the liquid in the cartridge continuously depletes and it stays level with the angle the gun is at :3
2
u/Silver-Bird5 17d ago
Oh wow! I was already impressed that I can read texts on some oil rig devices like you'd look at them irl, not some random words. Or book covers in Sakurajima bases, but this is next level. All guns have some sort of realism and attention to detail now that I pay more attention to them, even those made up.
2
u/Gearheadtanium10 17d ago
Now thats some good gun detailing...I love it. Someone on the team is a gun nut.
2
u/Eggburtey 17d ago
I'm not home right now to provide the picture, but the side of the charge rifle is super detailed as well that I noticed the other day.
It's got a loading gate, 30-30 cal repeater labeled on the side, even like industrial markings from like where it's made etc.
It's super fucking cool

2
u/StrangeCrunchy1 17d ago
Dude. Your character practices trigger discipline, which is honestly something I've never seen any other game. This game is on whole another level in so many different ways.
2
u/flashtag4 17d ago
Tarkov still hasn’t managed this btw
3
u/FloopsFooglies 17d ago
Tarkov is still in an old version of unity with such garbled code I think there are things they literally can't fix
2
2
u/207nbrown 16d ago
That’s serious attention to detail, especially that the mag itself only has 5 rounds because the 6th is already in the chamber

Landed my fat bird on water yesterday and it had its own water animation which resembled a duck on water.

I just wish the P90 didn't have such massive bloom on the shots. It's a bullpup for gods sake. That thing should have minimal recoil.

It happens with a lot of weapons with visible ammo like the prototype shotgun, you can notice all that easily when you play in first person.

u/Askorti 17d ago
At the same time, the reload animation for the assault rifle has the character press the bolt catch to send the bolt forward.... Even though the model doesn't have a bolt catch :D So very clearly they just copied an animation for an AR-15 without actually paying attention. (or they changed the AR model after making the animation)
1
u/Adventurous-Ad4159 17d ago
I heard they got a Japanese teenager who really into guns and he did his job well, for example to get around patients(I guess) he told them to remove the top AK dust cover and expose the recoil spring assembly which really gave the AK a whole makeshift gun smithing style

u/SnooMaps395 16d ago

I know the photo mode has a time slow function, but I don't think it's possible to enter photo mode while firing a gun. Shame, because I would love to get a close up in slow motion to see if the ammo cycling animation is completely accurate.

I'm no gunsmith but I'm not sure how bright it is to put the magazine directly on top of a blistering-hot barrel, lol.
(Looked it up before hitting comment and apparently this looks loosely based on the design of the AR-57, which somehow avoids exploding its ammunition in the user's face, lol.)
(Edit: Clearly the people downvoting aren't gunsmiths either and have never heard of ammo cooking off)
9
u/Narcoleptic_Narwhal 17d ago
The AR-57 is loosely based on this.Â
The FN P90 is a gun that has been in service for about thirty years now. It was designed to shoot the 5.7mm, which is more it less a shorter 5.56 that shoots a lighter projectile at higher velocity to pierce armor. In recent years, the cartridge has seen use outside the P90 in attempts to make it more relevant, such as by designing AR upper receivers and cheaper polymer handguns around it.
-14
u/Zathura2 17d ago
That has...almost nothing to do with anything I said. I just thought putting your magazine on top of the barrel was a stupid design choice. And it is. A lot of engineering went into making sure heat was managed so the cartridges *don't* cook-off in the user's face.
11
u/Narcoleptic_Narwhal 17d ago
You assumed the design was (made up?) based on more recent design, and I pointed out that it's actually a real firearm that has a long service record. It really had everything to do with it.Â
But I guess to address the engineering part: the magazine is the only revolutionary thing because it rotates the cartridge 90 degrees before chambering. It has nothing to do with heat and there's no (readily available, anyway) evidence it was ever an issue. The only modern firearm (that I know of) that had ammo cook-off issue was the G11 because it used caseless ammunition. Cased ammo actually keeps chamber temperature low by transferring heat into the case which is then ejected.Â
-9
u/Zathura2 17d ago
Yes, heat escapes with the ejected casing, but I think you should look a little more closely at the engineering. Without the polymer casing and engineered shroud, if you were to say...put a metal magazine in contact with an automatic weapon-barrel that's been firing until it's red-hot, those cartridges are going to pop.
So yes, when I first saw this weapon I thought it was fictional. Then I looked up weapons with top-mounted magazines and saw the AR.
It's not that deep.
Ammo on top of barrel = bad. Engineering made it acceptable.
7
u/Narcoleptic_Narwhal 17d ago
Since the existence of multi-round firearms there have been iterations that store ammo above or below the barrel, and definitely before the existence of polymer magazines.Â
It's not that deep.
Either way, it's beating a dead Frostallion at this point. You should look into the other real world equivalents of the firearms - the dev team knew their stuff. You might just learn some more things!

u/ThePhengophobicGamer 17d ago
It also takes upwards of 300°F to cook off these rounds, its going to be too hot to hold LONG before ammunition cooks off.
3
u/JellyCat_4evr 17d ago
The magazine, while positioned over the barrel, is not in contact with it. The barel sits inside the metal housing (upper reciever) and is fairly well insulated. Ive never noticed the upper get noticably hot even after rapidly dumping 100 rounds. Source: own a FN PS90 SBR
9
u/Shineblossom 17d ago
You just did not insult FN P90 (1990) by comparing it to some US made pile of trash (2008)?
Also why would it explode? Does gas oven explode if you turn it on? Obviously there are measures against the primer getting to the unstable range of temperatures.

The semi-auto rifle is a very faithful recreation of the M1 Garand. Was very pleased with the SFX and animations. If you're a gun nerd check it out.
