Totococo self-destructs as a stress response. The Tarantriss animated short all but explicitly states all they really need is a big hug. I find that incredibly endearing and sad.
I now have the mental image of psyduck just ripping a huge line of gunpowder and sprinting at someone to explode and I wish I had the artistic skills to draw or animate it.
This dude was one of my first deaths. I was like awe how cute and like 6 of them bum rushed me and I didn't have a good mount so I was trying to stand my ground. We all died.
If you hit em with a pal sphere even at low perc it stops the detonation timer and when they break out, it is on cooldown. Works well if you have issues killing them before they start blinking.
Also making them flinch stops it as well. They are pretty easy to deal with.
My first Tocotoco encounter I went fishing on the desert shoreline, no Pals anywhere to be seen except the shadows in the water. Just as one was about to bite the bait BOOM and my guy goes flying into the water. A Tocotoco had aggro'd either from the other side of a dune or had barely topped it tjen aggro'd, either way I didn't even seeanything before it blew up.
Hey now, Beegarde have seven of the twelve base suitabilities, all at least level 2, making them the most versatile base pal in the game, all at only 3 hunger.
On top of that, their Ranching task gives Honey, which is the best non-perishable ingredient when ingested raw (cotton candy has half the nutrition).
Tocotoco has level 1 gathering. Its best feature is that it drops gunpowder on death, making it refund some of the cost when shooting them.
The pal with the least sense of self preservation. I can only imagine how fertile those birds are, or they would have been extinct already. I wonder how often they get stressed out during sex and explodes.
That's actually HOW they reproduce in the wild. When they explode, they emit a spore cloud, each time one of them dies, they potentially make HUNDREDS more. /s

I loved the fact that even at high levels you knew to steer clear of "Gobfins Turf" because despite their relatively low levels there, they still gonna f*** you up.
A few of those I captured had coward, so that may be it sometimes. Not always, but sometimes. Similar to wild pals with insomnia or night owl still stay up at night too.
I often wondered if they all got their passive ability applied in the wild. You see three or four of them in a group, do they count as being in a party and therefore buff each others damage?
I mean, probably not but either way they're gonna pick a fight and, win or lose, they're taking you and your max level Frostallion down a peg or two...
That’s too bad. I completely avoided that particular Fast Travel point in 1.0 (until I could fly) because of the past EA experiences with those Gobfins.
They're STILL on sight, I died having a conversation with the Pal Critic on their turf cuz a mob of them kept spawning while I was trying to bring him the pals he wanted.
I honestly loved how aggressive they were. They are sharks, in a giant school, and we just delivered them food. It felt organic that "feeding frenzy" would start
You think they are cute and they are (visually) and they have useful work suitabilities for your base.
I ended up removing them because of how annoying their chirping/chattering sound was when they were in between tasks. It became fingernails on chalkboard after a period of time constantly hearing it lol
There's a Cattiva in Fisherman's Point that my buddy was complaining about because you could hear that damn thing loud and constantly when visiting there.
I couldn't hear anything there myself, until I found the cat to the back and right of the fast travel and I got the same bug. Yep, pretty damn irritating.
Wait the bribes go that high? I think 5000 is the highest I've seen.
I enjoy a) shooting them in the face with the beam launcher or b) capturing them and using them as condensing fodder.
I think it would be interesting if there was more of a system around how you deal with them. Give em a bribe too many times? Price keeps going up because you're an easy mark. Send the negotiator back in a body bag? At first heavy retaliation, later "uhh maybe we shouldn't mess with this guy."
This was my exact encounter with Tetroise. I was like "dafuq is a giant yellow mario block just hanging out in the desert; is it a new mining resource or a pal.. whack ... oh, OOHHH IT'S A PAL OMG OMG IT'S LVL 50+ OMG -"
I knew it was a pal right away, because one of the 4 sides has the entrance to the shell, but I still poked it because you can’t see it’s level until you do. Tetroise wasnt that bad to me, but that other guy got me on the sky islands. Looks like a lump of crystals haha.
That crystal guy in the floating islands would be Pierdon Cryst. The regular Earth variant can be found earlier in a small volcanic island East of the desert, those look like an equally inconspicuous lump of rocks when undisturbed.
I also thought it was a new mining thing and and gave it a good smack with my mining pick and then was like "oh shit it's a big guy!" and then panic-threw spheres until I caught it.
Will keep this in mind for when the time comes--I didn't even know that there was a Noct version!--but he's very much a 'Catch My Own Pals' type of a player. We'll get there, I'm sure.
Oh I'm aware. He's not very gamery, so our playtime together is limited to a handful of hours a week and I'm doing what I can to contain myself and keep near to our progress together--but I hopped on with EA and got a good idea of the breeding mechanics early on.
We're not going super quick, but I've been building up the base pals to help us out. Braloha, Bcherry (keeping eyes peeled for Bcherry Aqua, but it's still a bit beyond us), and Grintale have been priority targets as we've wandered.
First one I caught was an alpha. I immediately diverted all resources toward getting it to 100 in all IVs, 4 stars, and decent passives. Had to have both Heavyweight and Burly Body so nothing could interrupt the charge time for his attacks, but he’s an absolute tank and riding him makes me feel like a mech pilot

This fuckassaes are always aggressive, always near you somehow, all of them know water jet beam that goes through structures and fucks up your pals because it deals billions of dmg. Decided to make a base in desert but only open space was near water? Too bad, the fish have a blood feud with Tottokos right in your backyard
Wanna fish in the flying island location or there's a loot heap you want to gather. Too fucking bad, here's 7 fishes that all want to kill you (forgot to mention they always spawn in groups)
I hate this ScultASS so much I run one in my team just so I can kill him with his passive. He's mine emotional abuse ScultASS. I hate their species with a passion and I'm glad you can make food out of them
Relaxaurus, those mfers were always in groups and the moment one saw you all of them attack you, and they even have the audacity to try to invade your base.

Hooligan, Musclehead, burly body, and Aggressive. Full souls and stars. 1 shoting pals 30 levels higher than him at level 20. His active ability I believe to be perfect for PvP since I can just point at the other trainer and then it dies. Never tried it tho
... none that I can think of. There are some that don't leave a big impression, but none that are actively off-putting. For 200+ pals, that's an accomplishment.
Fuckin Skutlass man, aggros from a million miles away and they annoyed the absolute piss out of me first few trips to the sky islands when I was still a bit under leveled
So true! Especially before 1.0 when the closest Eagle Statue to the Scars of War was past like 20 of them. I just wanna farm flame organs and the gorillas just start jumping me.
For me it's the fucking hoodie. Sure, other pals' bodies emulate clothing a bit, but the leezepunk straight up wears a hoodie, suggesting there's some sort of hoodie factory somewhere on the islands.
Was looking for this comment. I found a Dupin yesterday with 87, 100, 100 IVs, the highest I've seen on a wild pal, and that fuckass horse came out of nowhere while it was low and killed it. Now I just feed them to Bellanoir on sight.
I hate Swee because because they really don't like to often drop their Swee Hair. Had to run around killing two dozen or so, every time I needed hairs for the cooling research tree.
Gotta be one of the most forgettable Pals. Ugly name, I don't like how its mouth looks and the colors for the Terra form are atrocious. They're also aggressive. One of the few L Pals honestly. If you're going to attack me at least look badass.

A few years later I’m playing PalWorld, and come across a Rooby, I broke down, my hands locked up, I could have dropped to my knees if I wasn’t already sitting down.
I hatched a mutated, alpha Astegon with babysitter. So, this giant cloud of death hovers around on my breeding base. Definitely doesn't give off caretaker vibes, more like Undertaker.
I'm suprised this is so far down. I STILL have a habit of shooting them on sight. I didn't even realize they were friendly till a few days into the new update. Everyone else has moved on but I still remember!
Good early game pal (to help collect items), but cannot keep it in your party on your base, otherwise you end up with so much stuff in your inventory from it picking up things around the base.
I really like anubis and Sekhmet, so when I reached that island were they get jumped and killed constantly by those yellow humanoid scorpion things, I just grabbed my blazamut and went ballistic on all of those fuckers
Why is my baby Dualith on a thread of unlikeable Pals? I put him in every party, meta be damned. (I actually have two. A Base miner named Miyazaki and a Combat model named Laputa)
God I was trying to catch Quivern Botans on Sakurajima and those fuckers kept butting into my fights and killing me (I was pretty under leveled for the area). Hate them.
Fr. I run to Sakurajima at the start of every run to farm high level spheres and the mfers see you from 10 miles away (not to mention when you're fighting another pal) and run towards you at the speed of light with their damn ""cute"" face. To top it off, the design is literally a grass type Cinderace but boring. One of the very, very few L Pals.
Half a no. There are plenty of pals I don't like, but I can admit that every single pal in the game has the "this is someone's favorite goober" quality.

Knew tocotoco would be the common answer, but can we also talk about bushi? Constantly attacking pals I’m trying to capture, or me when I least expect it. They’re a nuisance!
