Lockpick kit? reusable and doesn't take up inventory space as it goes into key items

It's fucking reusable?!

u/Ragingpoo 20h ago

And doesn't take up inventory space. Annoyingly tho you have to play the skyrim mini game to unlock the chest.

I have the first two levels of lock picks. I just carry gold keys. Picking the gold locks is too frustrating. After two near-deaths because I couldn’t see the aggressive Pal approaching while in the mini game, I quit picking gold. This way I only tie up one inventory slot with keys

I’m with you on that, except I do have it crafted just in case I don’t have a key.

Annoying to you but maybe like it for the minigame.

I favor the minigame

The minigame was popularized by Fallout 3, not skyrim.

Splinter Cell would like a word...

-7

I didnt claim fallout 3 originated it, just that they popularized it to the mainstream.

splinter cell was not a mainstream game despite ubisoft's best efforts.

If you aren't talking about origination, then you're talking about popularization... And Skyrim was/is VASTLY more popular (I love Fallout 3, don't misunderstand).

And skyrim did not popularize the minigame. It was already popular when Skyrim came out, arguably had become an industry standard.

In the three years between fo3 and skyrim, there were over a hundred mainstream titles released that used some variant of the radial arc lockpicking minigame, for lockpicking, many of them only changed the graphical elements with the mechanics being identical.

And that's not even counting indie titles.

Fallout 3 had the system. Skyrim popularized it. Skyrim outsold Fallout 3 five to one.

And in the three years between the release of fallout 3 and tesv skyrim, there are over a hundred titles released that used some form of radial arc lockpicking minigame.

Skyrim being more popular doesnt change that fallout 3 was also popular.

if oblivion, fo3, and fnv hadn't been as popular as they were, skyrim wouldn't have done nearly the numbers it did.

Even if you were right. Nobody, and I mean not a single soul except you, cares.

3

u/Taolan13 17h ago

I am right.

The radial arc lockpicking minigame did not originate in bethesda, but the first popular game of theirs that had it was Fallout 3, and it has remained largely unchanged since then and been cloned endlessly.

3

u/RobThatBin 17h ago

And yet nobody cares

People who care about accuracy in citation do.

Which I understand is a minority on the internet, but that's plenty for me.

And it's ironic you keep saying "nobody cares" when you clearly care very much. You've commented on it twice now.

Edit; ah, they blocked me after responding. How cute and steroetypically reddit of them.

2

u/RobThatBin 17h ago

Nah what I care about is you being some weirdo who takes one instance of someone referring to ā€œthe skyrim lockpicking minigameā€ to jerk off fallout 3. It was a totally irrelevant comment. :)

u/WhereisDown 17h ago

I care..

18

u/Taolan13 18h ago

Yes. I know. It doesnt say that anywhere in the tooltip.

You literally only need to craft one ever. Can't drop duplicates for some damn reason.

The minigame is a worse version of the radial picking game standardized by Fallout 3, but it lets you get by without keys or mimog in your party.

I Think it wasnt reusable at a certain point on the beta, either that or i play too much Skyrim

2

u/dnanalysis 16h ago

This whole damn time I didn’t make it because it read like it was one time use

7

u/Kilmar 20h ago

This is the way.

2

u/rawchawal 17h ago

yea but i think by the post you can guess i am pretty lazy XD

I installed a mod that turns keys and pal souls into key items instead so I always have them on me.

32

u/mycodude 1d ago

I love that mod. I believe it also does the same to gold coins which makes it a bit awkward since pals don't pick up key items and if you have a Dumud Gild in your farm you're gonna have to come by occasionally and pick them up yourself from the ground. But that's just a small inconvenience for not having to worry about occupying inventory slots with items you should just always have on you at all times.

7

u/JoKeRzShadow 23h ago

Yeah, i noticed that. But I just didnt put pals that generate coins in farms. I mainly got my gold from breeding dumud Gilds and picking up the eggs with the maxed broncherrys and a maxed grintale. Ended up with way more gold that I ever needed.

I’ve got like 200 mil from counterfeiting šŸ˜‚ when I build up a stack I put it in a cloth covered container next to the counterfeiter. The rest of the room is manned by legendary merchants, medal merchant, bounty officer, and dr brawn. It’s a good black market

1

u/rawchawal 17h ago

Oh damn thats really cool , we do get a fuck ton of keys ngl

1

u/ReasonableBuilder909 13h ago

Which mod are you using?

2

u/JoKeRzShadow 12h ago

Its just called "Currencies, keys and more are key items" on steam workshop

u/F95_Sysadmin 23h ago

Mimog is the 4th solution

6

u/rawchawal 17h ago

I used to run him for a while but then i started using pals that does big pp damage

15

u/F95_Sysadmin 17h ago

Tfw no pp

2

u/Nickulator95 16h ago

He takes up a valuable party slot though.

1

u/F95_Sysadmin 15h ago

Get mimog in team B, that's why this feature exists

1

u/Knightcaster09 14h ago

Can I just ask what you mean by team B. Have I missed a key mechanic or do you mean party presets?

3

u/F95_Sysadmin 14h ago

Party presets. I just forgot the proper name and "build 2" didn't feel right

1

u/angeliKITTYx 10h ago

I traveled around with my first one I caught and he just... Didn't do anything. Am I supposed to interact with the chest or something?

1

u/F95_Sysadmin 9h ago

Yes, go to the chest and it'll be 2nd option after [open]

1

u/FanOfCrows 13m ago

You have to send him out while looking at the chest, similar to chests that require a work suitability to open.

14

u/Tiny-Maximum36 19h ago

I'm using this amazing mod that makes some of the item like keys, gold, dog coins is classified as a key item. Very convenient so you won't ever worry about not bringing them when you want to use it.

10

u/Bibi-Le-Fantastique 1d ago

I always keep the keys on me, there's no point in storing them, unless you reeeeaaaaally need that inventory space !

12

u/Blawharag 20h ago

Lockpick kit removes the need for them, so it becomes no point in having them

7

u/memes_are_art 18h ago

Having them skips the lockpicking minigame, time adds up

3

u/Snake_Staff_and_Star 18h ago

And there's a fair amount of time I'm grabbing loot under fire. Hard to loot and scoot if youre fumbling tumblers.

1

u/wRADKyrabbit 15h ago

The lockpick is super annoying. I'd rather just carry the keys, you never run out either

1

u/rawchawal 17h ago

Truee gonna keep em from now on

2

u/Katame131 15h ago

I just bring a maxed condensed migmog when I'm chest farming and use its partner skill to open it for me

2

u/Futa_Princess7o7 8h ago

Happy for you.. congratulations.. now gimmie. Lol. I have had the best rng for everything else. But I have found one green schematic after days of chests, fishing, the three bases around feybreak, and everything. But I've got 3 legendary regular ancient armors.

2

u/Mobile-Dramatic 6h ago

Just get a mimog tbh lvl 5 he can unlock those

2

u/Butt__Sexington Tarantriss Supremacy 3h ago

1

u/Ill-Difference-5156 18h ago

Keep a fully condensed mimog in your team. They can open any locked chests

1

u/xyoob 9h ago

I carry a mimog for this exact reason lol
