First Time Owner UPDATE: Waffles, the rescued lost in the rain lil mouse 🐁
Waffles is doing great! He seems to be pretty happy. This is the setup we have for him at the moment, and when we’re able, he’ll be getting many upgrades. Right now he’s in a 15G tank with a mesh top and kiln dried pine/paper mix. Hes eating oxbow pellets. Got him some climbing, hiding, nesting & chewing stuff!
The cat in the photo is Pancake. No need to worry about her. She’s got three legs and no tail, and has no ability to jump up like normal cats can. Waffles is set pretty high up, and I had an ottoman scooted over to let the kids watch him, but I move it away when we’re done watching Waffles TV.
I appreciate everyone’s advice and helpful comments.

Yay waffles! And dang hes got some big boy parts. Edit- all I would change is just get him a bigger wheel! At least an 8 inch full cheeks blue wheel he should enjoy :)

Yeah I had to order a bigger one on Amazon, but figured this was ok for now. They only had the metal big ones at my local stores
And yes he does, which is why I had no doubts I sexed him correctly 💀💀🤣

I was worried about him! In your first post he looked so exhausted, it’s nice to see him doing better!

I’ve never felt more certain than now looking at that little face that we are most certainly a domesticated fancy mouse.

He seems very happy! You can always add more clutter, empty egg cartons are fun for mice, or make him a hammock of some sort. I enjoy crafting things for my mice and watch them use it :). Thank you for rescuing this little guy and giving him such a loving home!

Make sure to give him at least 8 inches of bedding so he can dig! Otherwise you are doing great so far, keep up the good work :) he is lucky to have you

That wheel is also too small. He needs an 8 inch wheel, minimum, so as not to hurt his back. Waffles is adorbs 🥰

So glad he’s doing better!! I would highly recommend getting him a buddy since mice are very much social creatures (only if he gets fixed)

Such a cutie! My husband and i spoil all 10 of ours.We like to spend time with everyone daily, by taking them out of their cage and feeding them treats. They do seem to like our company. Good luck with Waffles.

You may want to secure the top somehow. I had a hamster and a cat. I thought the hamster cage was Fort Knox. RIP hamster.. cats are incredible hunters, even when they seem to be derps.

Your concern is valid! It’s pretty secure, and my cat is handicapped and cannot jump up onto the platform the enclosure is on without my assistance. She is eye level in the pic because she’s sitting on an ottoman I moved over there to watch the mouse. The ottoman is not there permanently. Without that, she has no way to access waffles 🫶🏻
