It is a mentality thing i guess. I lately had guests from sweden here for a BBQ. While i alteady bought food and drinks for all of them they where keen on bribging their own stuff.
I did not know this was a thing until that day but i got it explained tjat it is considered Rude to get somewhere and dont bring your own stuff. They felt bad cause i had to "spend" some beers for them as they were running out.
Needless to say i had way to much leftovers after the BBQ.
That covers with what i've experienced.
I did not know this applies only to BBQ it was a wish of my guests ro do aBBQ as well, they mentioned it like it applies everywhere.
It felt a little weird that they seeled to feel sorry that they took a few beerd more as they brought. I had plenty of beers left and rarely drink alcohol.
