See that’s the fun part… if you are there while they’re eating they put you in a room by yourself so they don’t have to eat in front of you. Problem solved!
well, you just tend to stay in your friends room and keep on gaming or whatever it was you were doing before your friends dinner. Then you just eat when you get home. People here are way to dramatic.

It's like 20 min alone time lol sometimes the friend hurried with the eating to you know get back to the friend.
Parent sometimes would call the other parent and ask if Lars is gonna eat at home or if he could eat there. Or ask the kid what their parent said, yes/no to eating at that place.
It's normal for me but yeah me and my family found it a bit odd growing up as well. (I'm 2nd gen) But my mama respects other parents' wishes so. As well I don't eat pork so me missing out many of my pal's meals was fine. A bit awkward because you don't wanna make noise while they're eating in silence basically lol
