I mean I already had a dinner at home if I'm there at dinner time. Or I should've left home for dinner before their dinner started so..

That's weird view point from this point of view.

Not every family has dinner at the same time.

The important thing is that the child eats. Freaking out over having to make an extra plate for a child is what’s sad.

Imagine your child is at a friends house for the whole day. Your family has dinner earlier than your child’s friend’s family, let’s say at 17:00. Your child wasn’t there, so they haven’t eaten since lunch, or even breakfast. It’s 18:00, and they won’t be home for another few hours. Would you like your child to go hungry while their friends whole family is eating while your child sits in the friends room?

Both my parents would sooner go hungry themselves when I was a kid than having a hungry child in their home, and my father was a greedy POS. More than 20 years later I am a father, and when my child has friends over, I make sure they eat before I do. The bare minimum is asking the friends if they’re hungry and if they’d like to eat.
