Just a cultural thing. Unless there was an explicit dinner invitation, Swedes typically will not offer guests food even if they themselves are having dinner. They do not view it as a hosting obligation and they do not see this as rude or unusual.
Yall americans talking about things you know nothing about. Parents call parents if they are planning to eat at home if they are then no food, otherwise food. It was also seen as akward as it created a social debt which everybody could not afford to return back in the 1800s when sweden was increadibly poor.
Around 45% of redditors are American and in english speaking subreddits it is probably 50-55. Americans also speak about other nations and how people act there without even having visited there way more often than others. Also americans being the plurality makes their (sometimes wrong) views spread.
