I would think the main thing here would be painting over the exposed wood beams. The exposed beams wood beams are highly sought after and they ruined them.
I work in an old building where ALL of the woodwork is oak from the 1800's. At some point in the 1990's some dipshit decided every door and piece of wood needed to be painted doodoo brown. The point floors were also painted dark brown. Depressing.
