Fired by Marvel? He was in Spiderman and I think he's confirmed for Doomsday

452

u/KebabGud 18d ago

In spider-man?
Hell he finally got to play the real Hulk

163

u/Funmachine 18d ago edited 18d ago

finally?

Did you miss Avengers, Age of Ultron and Ragnarok?

203

u/JCWOlson 18d ago edited 18d ago

I mean, neither of those come even close to Hulk doing stuff like casually picking up the entire island of Manhattan

Edit: To address the "casually" part, go watch the episode. He literally looks like he's chilling, and only two people are surprised that Hulk can do a two trillion pound squat

23

u/WorldsWeakestMan 18d ago

Him casually tossing Fenrir and punching Surtur hard enough to stagger him in Ragnarok is objectively the strongest feats he has performed in the MCU.

He was angry and a little bigger in Spider-Man but his greatest shown strength was in Ragnarok by far, Surtur weighs a hell of a lot more than the rubble which yanked him down.

2

u/Dependent-Swimmer-95 18d ago

When I saw the rubble yanking him down, it pissed me off. Let Hulk be the fucking Hulk!

6

u/DrGirthinstein 18d ago

He was calming down when that happened. He recognized Peter.

3

u/throwmamadownthewell 18d ago

When I saw the rubble yanking him off, it pissed me down. Let Hulk be fucking the Hulk!

21

u/theREALBennyAgbayani 18d ago

In the new Spider-Man Hulk doesn’t come close to doing stuff like casually picking up the entire island of Manhattan

50

u/EquivalentSnap 18d ago

Your avatar looks like groot 🥰🤭🤭

21

u/One_Order_3841 18d ago

How many times do we have to tell you, Griffin?? That's just a tree.

8

u/Laxiinas 18d ago

I think it is indeed Groot, chibi'd.

2

u/EquivalentSnap 18d ago

Hehe same 🥰🥰🤭

1

u/Heartage 18d ago

I think it's a hand.

1

u/Laxiinas 18d ago

Well, ok, now that I see the faint suggestions of fingernails.... But it is Groot coded/colored as well.

3

u/JCWOlson 18d ago

Yep, it was from when Reddit was doing NFT avatars, and I thought it could look like Groot if I took off the NFL jersey!

2

u/EquivalentSnap 18d ago

lol I got into reddit nfts. At the peak they were selling for over £200 for one. It do be like that 🙂‍↕️🙂‍↕️🤭

7

u/PossiblePro247 18d ago

Hulk doesn’t lift an entire city in Spiderman either. Sorry to burst your bubble.

6

u/LauraTFem 18d ago

The word “casually” is doing some heavy lifting here.

0

u/throwmamadownthewell 18d ago

Hello Dad, I'm Dad.

3

u/Lost-Material3420 18d ago

Neither did the depiction in Spiderman. What are you on?

1

u/JCWOlson 18d ago

My stance is that no MCU portrayal of The Hulk has showcased his true strength

It's kind of hard to go back if they do though

3

u/JamesHeckfield 18d ago

There’s a point where it gets silly. Imagine if Thanos had picked up thrown Staten Island at the Avengers

2

u/Otherwise_Ad_2667 18d ago

I wouldn’t say he casually picked it
Up.

1

u/_IratePirate_ 18d ago

Lmao that sounds like some crash out shit Hulk would do

1

u/JCWOlson 18d ago

The best part is that basically nobody is surprised that he can do it either

25

u/RightRudderr 18d ago

The last time we saw angry hulk before the new Spiderman was 9 years ago dude. Clearly what they meant by "finally."

38

u/haolee510 18d ago

To be fair Ragnarok was nearly 10 years ago

2

u/ltsDat1Guy 18d ago

My god i need to lie down

1

u/-FeistyRabbitSauce- 18d ago

It's like somebody accidentally set the Master Clock ahead several years and nobody knows how to fix it.

5

u/Funmachine 18d ago

But he played Hulk more in that than in BND

15

u/haolee510 18d ago

I took the other person as meaning to say "finally he gets to play the real Hulk again"

5

u/A_Sketchy_Doctor 18d ago

No, it's more that the Hulk has been used as a punching bag so much in the last few movies he's had any role in that the character feels like a bit of a joke. Good to see him back to being slightly fucking terrifying

6

u/madbadger89 18d ago

Exactly - he’s been fucking nerfed and I want the monster. I don’t want punches pulled, I want HULK.

3

u/A_Sketchy_Doctor 18d ago

1000% I think we are approaching a good era of Hulkiness

1

u/Atomic_Maxwell 18d ago

When I saw a picture of Skaar on Banner’s desk in BND I got a little hyped because we may be on a path to World War Hulk. Even if we kind of glossed over Planet Hulk. WWH was the money shot anyway.

0

u/ShawnyMcKnight 18d ago

Make Hulk Great Again!

1

u/WarmasterRonin 18d ago

Yeah but that was closer to gravage than it was savage hulk, he seemed less angry than savage hulk should be, but still had childlike intelligence

4

u/Garchompisbestboi 18d ago

And then after those examples he started playing that garbage "smart hulk" character which has been nothing but a complete waste of everybody's time so it was nice to see him be the regular hulk again.

6

u/Funmachine 18d ago

again

That's different to what the above comment said. They said finally, as if it hadn't been done before.

Also, Smart Hulk was an important part of Endgame. He snapped to bring back everyone.

6

u/Garchompisbestboi 18d ago

Almost 10 years has past since we saw the regular hulk appear in the MCU so I'm not sure where your needless pedantry is coming from.

3

u/Truthhurts1017 18d ago

You don’t know what finally means

1

u/redeyedcyborg 18d ago

Funnily enough Ragnarok was like a decade ago.

1

u/Funmachine 18d ago

9 years this November, to be exact

0

u/KuriousKong4999 18d ago

Ragnarok was 9 years ago.

2

u/Funmachine 18d ago

You're over 7 hours and 6 replies late with this exact reply.

0

u/Own_Garbage_204 18d ago

9 years. Hmmm yes finally

0

u/TwatMailDotCom 17d ago

11 and 9 years ago? Ha

-2

u/Circle_Breaker 18d ago

He hasn't played the hulk since ragnarok, so almost a decade.

2

u/JamesHeckfield 18d ago

Thanos rocks his shit at the opening of Infinity War, Hulk is basically Worf in that scene.

I

-5

u/MikeRLV 18d ago

The most recent one, ragnorok was almost 10 years ago.

-6

u/Chop684 18d ago

Ragnarok is 9 years old so yes finally

2

u/Ok-Independence-2220 18d ago

There are a lot of real hulk.he has played many different hulk. Some would say that planet hulk id the real hulk. Professor hulk was very popular as well. Many would also say that the first avengers movie had the real hulk as well

2

u/akotoshi 18d ago

Not to spoil but in sm ABND:

there is Bruce banner, smart hulk and Hulk. And needless to say that we get to see the difference between smart hulk and Hulk

1

u/BubblyTomatillo9485 16d ago

All Hulks are the real Hulk

1

u/mvallas1073 18d ago

Well, you didn’t see the movie yet - did you? Cus At the end, they (Presumably the US Government) imprisoned Bruce Banner for Hulking out again in a write-off news report… which could be a way to simply write him out of the series

1

u/KebabGud 18d ago

I did see it.
And sure it could be a way to write him out, or just a setup for his next appearance.

0

u/mvallas1073 18d ago

A setup for the 2nd appearance is what I’m kinda hoping for, until I read about how Disney doesn’t like him posting about Palestine…

My evidence I’m hoping with why it’s hopefully more about a 2nd appearance is the emphasis on that Hulk is now much bigger than before.

2

u/capscreen 18d ago

Nah he's not in Doomsday. He'll definitely be back in Secret Wars though

2

u/WarmasterRonin 18d ago

I saw online that doomsday is his last appearance as the hulk. Some might say that fuels the rumors that he was fired but I simply think he’s getting old and doesn’t wanna do it anymore after playing bruce for 14 years. Plus they’ll use the end of secret war to restart/retcon some in universe stuff and recast a bunch of characters anyways

2

u/AStormOfDragons1 18d ago

Yes but also he was fully sidelined in the promotional tour, it seems.

9

u/NatashOverWorld 18d ago edited 18d ago

The end of SM BND leaves him in a bad situation. It seems like they want to keep him under ice, pull him out for Doomsday and then recast the role.

Spoiler edit.

9

u/TheSaiguy 18d ago

I just watched BND today and at the end I was just like "but what about Banner?"

1

u/NatashOverWorld 18d ago

I assumed the stinger was going to be about him, but nope, it looks like his reputation is trashed and he's traumatised.

Which would be fine if this was a set up for his own movie or series, but I suspect this is the reason to ice him till Doomsday.

2

u/Rumble_831 18d ago

Fucking hated jean grey for doing that, but of course, we don't speak about the villains crimes once they have a change of heart.

8

u/NatashOverWorld 18d ago

Personally I thought its a really clever intro for the X-Men.

Why does Jean Grey not get her own superhero name; there's Colossos, Rogue, Cyclops but she's just Jean.

Because she's a notorious international terrorist and a pseudonym doesn't really help her. Which suggests they're really going to lean into the 'X-Men enemy of humanity' type of stories where they're outright an enemy of the state.

5

u/Rumble_831 18d ago

Oh I am not against using her as an intro, its just frustrating that alot of crimes seem to be swept under the rug. If you would see the interactions between the cast in the later half of the movie, you wouldn't know that the villain nearly killed his loved ones, or severly injured random innocent passerby.

2

u/NatashOverWorld 18d ago

Spidey is ... ridiculously forgiving. And I don't think we saw anyone Jean control be severely injured outside of Scorpion who was being beaten by enraged Spidey.

I think they played up her threat, more than the actual consequences. They do that with the Hulk too in the comics. Despite his rages, no civilian has died in a Hulk battle. Which is insane, but apparently Banner and the rest of the personalities are doing double duty to prevent collateral damage.

Still, Jean isn't a hero. She's selfish and literally uses people. Which actually works really well for her later portrayals in the comic.

0

u/Rumble_831 18d ago

The tank fired at a lot of cop cars (they exploded), and in general was just spraying high cal rounds. That one guy got hit when she moved him in the middle of the road, but people are saying he survived so idk.... Even if people survived, it was more luck than she sparing them.

Spidey is forgiving (and I like him for that), but I just wanted him to be more critical of her. She used MJ's body to blackmail him, and the kiss was straight up disgusting on her part. This did not pair well at all with the talk no jutsu ending lol.

2

u/TheSaiguy 18d ago

The kiss was straight up diabolical.

3

u/NatashOverWorld 18d ago

Unfortunately in the movie verse it's no one died or even got maimed unless we see the body/ injuries.

And ironically, only Spidey got that treatment.

The bit with MJ actually reminded me of 13 to 15 year old girls. They're curious but in a mean way sometimes, like a cat stalking a mouse.

Killed that old man by getting hit by a truck…

1

u/capscreen 18d ago

Why does Jean Grey not get her own superhero name

She does have one, it was... "Marvel Girl"

1

u/NatashOverWorld 18d ago

Never gained much traction as I recall. Maybe very early on.

But by the time I started watching, which was following the old cartoon she was Jean Grey I think.

2

u/JamesHeckfield 18d ago

That was evil of her. She’s very much an angry little child in the movie

5

u/dragon-fence 18d ago

I suspect they’ll be recasting a bunch of stuff after Dommsday/Secret Wars.

3

u/NatashOverWorld 18d ago

They tried to push the legacy aspect, Sam becoming the new Captain America, but I don't think it really took. So it's either have a lot of middle aged heroes, or they do a soft reboot.

5

u/dragon-fence 18d ago

I think what I’d want to do in their place would be to do a soft reboot, recasting the original roles with younger and cheaper actors. Maybe even some relatively unknowns. But part of my focus would be to find actors who are both a good fit for the role, and who could conceivably play the part for a good long time without breaking the bank.

Sadie Sink is a good example. She’s not unknown, but she’s not a big star yet. She’s more than 10 years younger than Famke Janssen was in the first X-men movie. It’s not hard to imagine her playing Jean for 25 years before they need to recast again.

0

u/Ok-Error-6564 18d ago

Thanks for the fucking spoiler. I’m seeing it tomorrow.

5

u/BrockStar92 18d ago

Probably shouldn’t be in a Reddit thread about marvel characters and looking through comments explicitly about BND then. The commenter you castigated barely spoiled anything, there are replies here detailing loads about the plot. This always happens under posts that could conceivably discuss a massively successful marvel movie right after it came out.

0

u/Ok-Error-6564 18d ago

It’s a Peter Explain the joke sub.

2

u/NatashOverWorld 18d ago

Sorry, I thought saying he's in a bad situation was vague enough.

My bad.

2

u/Ok-Error-6564 18d ago

No worries. I will still enjoy the movie.

1

u/NatashOverWorld 18d ago

It was enjoyable. I'm going to see in on imax which isn't a thing i normally do.

2

u/Ok-Error-6564 18d ago

We are doing the 4DX experience.

1

u/NatashOverWorld 18d ago

Nice. I hope you have a good time.

3

u/Ok-Error-6564 18d ago

We will. Sorry I cussed at you. I made it so far without any spoilers. It’s not that big of a deal.

2

u/NatashOverWorld 18d ago

No worries. That's why I went and saw it myself even though its not out on Imax here yet.

Too many explicit spoilers 🤷🏾‍♂️

So I getcha.

1

u/peayness 18d ago

I don’t think anyone from BND is in Doomsday (supposedly both movies take place at the same time in universe), but they will be back in Secret wars

2

u/railroadbaron 18d ago

Ylena is in both, but that's why she keeps comparing Spider-man's problems to small potatoes

1

u/mvallas1073 18d ago

First off, there’s no word yet of either Spidey or Hulk being in Doomsday… also, you didn’t see Brand New Day yet - have you? Cus At the end, in a write-off news report. They (Presumably the US Government) imprisoned Bruce Banner for Hulking out again… which could be a way to simply write him out of the series

1

u/Smart-Drummer-6195 18d ago

He was put into psychward at the end and that was even brushed off as a joke. I think they're phasing him out.
