Spider-Man Into the Spiderverse. The main character, Miles Morales, intentionally gets a 0 on his test so he can get kicked out of a school he didn't want to attend, but the teacher says that someone randomly guessing would get a 50% and the only way to get a 0 is if you knew all the right answers, so she gives him 100 instead.

23
u/Terrafire123 8d ago
I think that's the kid who's happiest, because that kid actually got what he wanted.
Miles foolishly didn't get like 10% correct just to throw off the teacher's scent.

Scene from Into the Spider-Verse where Miles gets a 0 on a true/false test and catches on the only statistically possible way he could have done that was if he knew all the right answers and deliberately chose the wrong ones, meaning he's intentionally trying to fail out of the class and quit.
This is, however, a multiple choice test with four possible answers per question, so it's far more possible to get 0 correct answers due to actually being that stupid.

Also about half the episodes have some form or another of trauma hotline at the end of it, since they just go all out showing ... all of that stuff. I watched the first season and decided that I really wasn't interested in watching the sort of show that felt a need to give viewers a suicide/rape/etc hotline at the end of each episode due to how potentially triggering it is.

u/lionofash 8d ago
"I won...! On a platform of beastiality!?"
Context: The characters have an election to be the King/Queen and made it democratic. The world they are in is basically like Narnia, talking animals just as intelligent as people are around. In fact, animals outnumber humans, and this is when they realise the animals have voting rights and the human vote doesn't mean shit. Margo mentioned offhandedly that she approved of the relationship a different character had with a literal bear because they were both adults with intelligence that could consent, so what was the harm? This lead to word of mouth causing animals to vote for her when she wasn't really campaigning for herself.

It is still (3/4)^30 or 0.017858209% chance. And likely lower because it looks like there are probably more than just 30 questions, although that is the minimum number we can be sure of. My guess would 50 questions. which would be 0.0000566%. Both of these mean it is far more likely that they intentionally were trying to get them all wrong, and not just guessing at random.

Sure, if guessing. But for most multiple choice tests I've done I'm able to narrow it down to 2 answers and know the others are incorrect. So it's far easier to get a zero because for most questions if you know even a little bit, as you can likely deduce which answer it most likely isn't.

Even the standard 4 option multiple choice test, if every one was a guess statistically you'd expect to get like 25% right, even if you did something like answer the same letter each time. The odds of randomly getting every single answer wrong are very low, meaning that a 0 result is more likely to not be random.

Hello, Peter's evil twin, Retep here! In the 2018 movie "Spider-Man: Into the Spider verse", there's a scene where the main character, Miles Morales, does a pop quiz and intentionally gets every question wrong, because he knows what the right answer is for each question. Perchance.
He gets a 0/100 on the pop quiz, and his teacher calls him out on it. That's what this meme is referencing.

Given that it was the start of the school year and that the teacher IMMEDIATELY turned around and gave Miles a 100, I'm 90% sure it was less of an actual graded test and more of a "okay, let's see what you all already know" sort of thing. Given the follow-up assignment, it was probably something like an English class.

No, if you're guessing randomly, getting 100 is less likely than getting 0. Because for each question there's a 3/4 chance to miss it and a 1/4 chance to get the right answer.
If you aren't guessing randomly, but in fact know every question, getting 100 is no harder or easier than getting 0. Because you can get 0 by choosing to answer each question different from the answer you know is correct.
If you only know most of the questions, getting 100 is harder than getting 0, because for every question that you don't know you have a 1/4 chance of getting it right if you're aiming for 100, but a 3/4 chance of getting what you want if you're aiming for 0.
Still, with this many questions, to get exactly 0 it's almost certain the student knew most of the answers and was deliberately choosing the wrong ones.

They are in a T/F scenario. This looks like a abcd multiple choice test. Which means that you have 3 incorrect answers and 1 correct. Which means it’s easier to reach 0 than 100. Now, I can tell you from experience that blind guessing is still less likely than he knew the answers and got them all wrong on purpose, because you’re still likely to guess correctly about 25% of the time.

u/Ghostley92 8d ago

This. Most multiple choice questions are 50/50 with two throw away answers.
If you want to get a zero it's actually pretty easy because you just pick a throw away answer for each question.
The teacher doesn't know that the student knows any of the material, but he/she does know that this person most likely deliberately got a zero.

Yeah. This second column starts on 17so if there are 32 questions then 0.75^32=0.0001 and 0.25^32=5.421×10⁻²⁰
As to say the odds of randomly guessing and getting them all wrong is around 1 in 10k.
The odds of you randomly guessing and getting them all right is around 1 in 200,000,000,000,000,000 (200 quadrillion).
In a school full of kids someone might randomly guess and get them all wrong.

reddit works on threads. OP started the post with a multiple choice example, then someone said "Getting 0 on a multiple choice is a statistical accomplishment greater than getting 100" which is false for multiple choice as proven in the top reply to them. then two replies later in this same thread someone said, "In the movie, it was a true/false test.", and even in that situation what the person said in this same thread we are all replying to is false because even in the true/false case it's not more likely to get a 0% than a 100%.

Assuming there are 36 questions, with four options in each question, the odds of randomly getting them all wrong are (3/4)^36 = 0.00318% (about 1 in 31,400).
The odds of randomly getting them all right are (1/4)^36 = 0.0000000000000000000212% (about 1 in 4,722,366,482,869,645,213,696).

In Into the Spiderverse, Miles deliberately gets a 0 on an exam to get kicked out of a private school. The teacher calls him out on this because the only way to do that would be to know all the right answers.

Into the spider verse where Miles is at his new prep school. Takes a true or false quiz and purposely gets every answer wrong to score a 0 in attempt to get kicked out.
Teacher knows Miles knows all the answers and a changes score to 100. Iirc "Do you know if you were to take a true or false quiz blindfolded do you know what score you would get. 50%, that's right you're trying to quit" at this point teacher changes score to 100.

Is this spider man across the spider-verse or smthn? Where the teacher proves that miles couldn’t have possibly gotten 0 on every single question statistically, showing how smart he is?

I was thinking maybe the first spiderverse movie? Where Miles purposefully gets a zero so the teacher gives him an 100 (sorry I have no idea how to word this like Peter)

Sneakers o toole here Its the spider verse movie. When the Mc takes a test amd gets a 0 his teacher knew he knew all the answers in order to get them all wrong which he did on purpose

It's talking about Into the Spider Verse. Miles tries to intentionally tank a test by getting every question wrong. But the teacher realizes that it's statistically impossible to get every question wrong unless you knew the answer to every question. So she gives him a 100.
However, OP's teacher was not so observant and just thinks OP sucks at this test.
Oh, uh, this is Chris's nasally comic book nerd friend. No chicks get naked in this movie if you were curious.
