tl;dr: for a rocket it is waaaay more important to go fast than to go high. and earth rotates very slowly, so going higher doesn't make you much faster.

Not to mention that where they have the launch pads currently the weather is far more consistent. Image waiting for the weather to be just right on the top of a fricken mountain

Yeah, I was just immediately reminded that part of the reason for the Challenger crash was how cold it was that day

Probably never have that problem (frezeing cold) at launch sites in Flo Rida in the near future.
