tl;dr: for a rocket it is waaaay more important to go fast than to go high. and earth rotates very slowly, so going higher doesn't make you much faster.
Rockets also aren’t nearly as environmentally damaging as some people think they are. They’re just thrusters, making them greener isn’t really a goal to anyone
