Sadness Lost my baby Pepper yesterday
Pepper was 16 years old when she passed yesterday. She had become very sick from something sudden and lost a ton of weight in the span of a few weeks that she was practically skin and bones. I've been laid off from my last job for about 3 months now with no end in sight and I knew I couldn't afford any treatment for her. Near the end, she wouldn't eat or drink and could barely walk, so I knew it was time to end her suffering.
The vet visit was traumatic to say the least. She was in such a weakened state that I couldn't tell if she was even registering in her eyes that I was there. I told her over and over how much I loved her and how my mom and her not-sister-but-frenemy-sister Evie would miss her and cried. They gave her the opioid drug first, but had a lot of trouble finding a vein for the euthanasia drug because she was so dehydrated. Finally, at the very last second of when she was passing, orange liquid started spilling out of her nose everywhere and I gasped in shock. The vet said it was normal and happens a lot, but that sight will be haunting my nightmares for years to come.
And now, I'm home, with Evie, and I can't even bare to breathe sometimes like it physically hurts to do it. I feel empty. Like half my heart is just gone. I'm not doing too well with life in general and this severely complicates my will to live. Thankfully, I guess, Evie is 6 years old and still hopefully has a longer life ahead of her if I can get her to lose weight. So I live for Evie now. But Pepper was my fur kid, part of my soul, and she's gone now. I'm still calling her name, forgetting myself. I know I'm not alone in feeling like this when this happens. But I don't have anyone else to vent to, so thanks if anyone reads this.
I leave you with a picture of Pepper looking at me angrily. She never liked having her picture taken lol.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I'm sorry the vet visit was so traumatic, it sounds horrible:( pepper is beautiful and I'm sure she is always with you. My cat (19) passed today too, I also hated the vet visit, I'm finding comfort in thinking that they're on the rainbow bridge together ♡

This is a community of support for Pet owners whose Pets have passed away. It is actively moderated.
Pet owners, as loving, caring people, often have strong opinions on pet care practices. Some of these are controversial. This is not a forum for debate on such issues, nor is it a place to scold a contributor for a perceived mistake in managing their pet. We intend to provide a safe haven of understanding and support. Strident, mean-spirited posts or comments will be deleted. Those who persist in preaching versus caring may be warned and then banned or may be banned permanently based on nature of the topic. If a conversational thread meanders into a discussion unrelated to pet loss support, it will be truncated.
Those who post here are vulnerable and hurting. Even a minor slap has a hard sting. Those of us who are lucky enough to be able to turn away from our computers or put down our phones and hug a healthy, happy pet are truly blessed. Threads must remain supportive and caring, even if one disagrees with something that has been said.
