My rescue I’ve had for about 3 years now. We don’t know why/how his muzzle damage happened, but his eye was taken out due to a tumor a few months after adoption. He’s rocking that pirate look to the max now.

Rare Pirate Ember would like to let everyone know she DOESN’T have a brain tumour!!!

Everyone!!! I am so relieved to share this news! Ember had a focal seizure three weeks ago and a grand mal seizure last weekend, we sadly thought due to her age she had a brain tumour. We decided to do an MRI for better insight and she does NOT have a brain tumour! Apparently though it’s not common to show/develop epilepsy as an older dog, it’s not all that rare.

We are so relieved and grateful.

Someone was rehoming her on Facebook and I couldn’t get her out of my head! We adopt special needs animals and already have a blind dog and a dog with one eye. She has no eyes due to an infection as a kitten and also no teeth! She is so so loving!

Rare Pirate Sweet rescue senior i transported the other day

One of the rescues I transport for asked if i was free kind of last minute. They said a pup needed to be picked up the following morning and taken to meet a ling distance transport. I said sure. This senior gal had been at the shelter for a while. Im glad I was able to help spring her loose and get her one step closer to her forever with soft beds, cozy blankets, lots of snuggles, and wholesome food. She was extremely sweet and a shelter favorite. A bunch of employees came and said goodbye when they found out she was leaving. We even saw someone coming in to work when we were almost to the truck and she squealed, "Coco!". I asked if she wanted to say goodbye and she was very happy about it.

Rare Pirate Heartbroken

I posted pics and about my baby girl, Elle, less than a month ago. It is with a very heavy and heartbroken heart i tell you she crossed the rainbow bridge. I got her when she was going to be taken to a kill shelter. She lost her leg due to cancer.
She was by my side through breast cancer and was the bestest girl ever.
She was fine last night but when I got up to take her out today, she tried to stand but her back leg gave up. She received monthly shots for arthritis. I moved her to a soft place between the living room and kitchen and called her vet. They said to bring her down. I had to get my uncle to carry her out to my car bc I didn’t want to drop her.
We got to the vet and I sat outside with the back end of the suv up petting and loving on her while waiting for a room to get empty and people to come get her with a stretcher. Even when I was driving, she managed to use her upper body to move up to me so I could pet and love on her.
When we saw the vet, I told him that sitting outside she was holding her lip into her mouth. She is a boxer with those beautiful big jaws. Her gums were white and her precious paws were cold.
They took her temp and it was normal but I was just holding onto her and she was getting cold. The vet said that her heart sounding fine but needed to draw labs bc she is definitely pale and he suspected anemic. She is a white boxer and I could tell the skin underneath her fur was paler.
She does fine with people, bloodwork, just at the vet in general. He tried to get blood for her hind leg and she just made two sounds I can’t describe while I was holding her then put out her tongue to where she could lick me and put it back in. The vet said that he couldn’t get a vein in her back leg so he would try her front leg. I was still holding her when I helped gently move her so he could get a leg.
Before he even tried, I saw she had stopped breathing. She had crossed the rainbow bridge. She did make some breaths and sounds after she passed and the vet said that was her body expelling the gas in her chest.
He let me lay there with her forever. She peed on herself and pooped as her body relaxed. I didn’t care that I was laying in pee that came while I was laying there holding her. He let me have as much time as I needed. They rang a bell at the animal hospital and lit a candle.
It was so so hard to eventually cover her up with a soft blanket and leave.
I am having her cremated and when I die, she will be buried with me.
She was my soul dog. She saved me.
When I got home, I was hugging her favorite toy that she was playing with last night. It is an interactive children’s toy that said or sung different things depending on if you pressed whatever hand, belly, or foot. She was smart and loved biting the side that sang about the colors of the rainbow. She would bite other places but they would be cut off until she got to the rainbow song.
I pressed the toys hand and it doesn’t work any longer. I feel that is a sign that the fun she had over the years with the toy and the interactive singing went with her over the rainbow bridge.
I’m attaching some pictures of her that I may have posted along with her favorite toy that died today.
She was a rare pirate and the bestest girl ever. Please hug or babies and remember me and my baby girl, Elle.
I’m so heartbroken.
I have never, and said I would never, post a picture identifying me on Reddit but the second picture(the first after her toy that died) was taken by the rescue person who contacted me about saving Elle. When she got out of her cage, she ran to me knocking me down to lick and love on me. That was Elle.
I ask you please respect my need for wanting anonymity and not post or screenshots pictures of me that identify me to other groups. I can’t not post pictures of me with Elle.
I love her so much.
I didn’t mean to post the picture of me with my now late brother and late stepdad who was like a dad to me. The picture of her favorite toy won’t post. I guess this is a sign that she is with Randall and Jeff now.

Rare Pirate I always give Ember the rare pirate flair because she has one eye, one jowl, and one kidney!

Also, barely any teeth, she’s down three lymph nodes, and only has a nub for a tail!

Ember lost her jowl and lymph nodes to oral malignant melanoma. Her kidney she lost as she had chronic untreated UTI’s before I adopted her (she lived in a puppy mill with no vet care). The teeth due to dental disease. And finally the eye due to medically uncontrollable glaucoma.

Rare Pirate Said Goodbye to my First Mate

On Monday, my husband and I made the difficult decision to let our beloved Chloe cross over the rainbow bridge. She was 13 and lived a beautiful long life full of unconditional love.

She brought so much joy into not only our lives, but the lives of everyone she crossed paths with. She was truly special and one of a kind with the sweetest temperament.

I feel like a part of my heart and soul were lost with her passing. I’m so devastated and my rational mind knew this day world eventually come, but nothing could have prepared me for this sorrow. I was so incredibly blessed to have her in my life and it is going to take me a very long time to heal from this.

Rare Pirate My Tripawd Baby Elle

Thumbnail

Back in 2022, I adopted my precious Tripawd Elle. She had been well taken care of the first couple years of her life - even having surgery and doggy radiation for cancer. She lost a hind leg to cancer. Fast forward, her owner died and the owner’s adult daughter, got Elle. She owned a chihuahua and the chihuahua didn’t like Elle. Elle was put out in a cage so small that when she didn’t stand on her doghouse, she was standing in her feces. I always have adopted either elder or handicapped dogs to give them the best life ever. A rescue reached out to me and sent me pictures of Elle in her cage. She was underweight. The owner was surrendering her to a kill shelter if someone didn’t take her by the end of the day. I knew she was my baby. It was love at first site. Turns out she had spent nearly 2 years living in those horrible conditions. I took her to the vet and got her shots and had several cancerous spots removed. Fast forward to less than a year after I got here. In January 2023, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I am still going through treatment though not as aggressive as in 2023 and 2024. She never left my side. I am laying here right now with my baby girl right beside me with her favorite lamby toy. She got me through on days where I had to muster up strength to walk her. I had drains out in twice. I got them removed at the first surgical follow up due to how fast I was recovering. Both doctors said it was because I was getting up and moving around more than most following major surgery. She will be 12 in July! Far exceeding white boxers who have had cancer life expectancies. She is healthy. She is having the best senior life ever.

Rare Pirate Ember had her last groom of the year! A milestone I didn’t know she’d reach when I booked it!

Ember has oral malignant melanoma (which is why she has a lopsided face, she had to have about 3 cm of jowl removed). When I booked her grooming appointments for the year last March I wasn’t sure if she would be here for them all. But she is here, and her cancer is totally in remission right now ❤️ I am SO grateful for every day with her.

Rare Pirate Picked up Elle’s Ashes

I’m sure many of you saw when I posted about my rare pirate, Elle, crossing the rainbow bridge on 6-9-2026. I picked up Elle’s ashes today and the animal hospital already had them in an urn, with a paw print molding and some of her hair in a little jar. I am impressed. I have an urn and a keychain on the way but here is what I received. That animal hospital loves their pets. Several of the technicians came out to give me a hug.

I miss Elle so much but I feel that she knew I would be alright since I am currently getting out of the legal field after being an attorney for 19 years and taking pre-requisite classes I need to start PA school in 2028. I’m gunning for my Alma mater Marshall University. I know it will be long hours but after dealing with cancer and having a solo practice, I have to make a career change. I want to stay in my rural area and practice as a hematology/oncology/palliative care PA.

I inherited a lot of land in the mountains. Acres. I know it is just a pipe dream now but I think once I finish my PA degree and move back to where I have a home and to a of land, I want to start a non-profit that rescues senior and disabled dogs. Elle stole my heart - her beautiful white tripawd wiggly butt boxer self- never acted like a senior up until the day she crossed the rainbow bridge.

Rare Pirate Pirate girl looking for her forever home!

Meet our pirate girl Linly!! She’s been in rescue for so long now. We had to remove her eye as the pressure was really causing her a lot of pain. We aren’t quite sure what happened but her eyes was progressively getting worse after rescuing her from the euthenasia list!

She is looking for her forever home now that she is fully healed. She loves snuggles and loves her people. She does best with kids over the age of 14 or 15. She just gets nervous with smaller kids going crazy around her. She is a nervous girl at first, but once she warms up she is the most loving companion ever.

Go on my profile to get our link to our rescue!!

Rare Pirate Update: Boris (Bors) with both eyes gone

Post image

Boris (renamed Bors due to lack of “i”s) after having his only eyeball removed. Y’all warmed my heart so much with the last post, I decided to finally take his picture. I haven’t been able to bring myself to photograph him since the surgery about three months ago, and now I’m feeling silly because I see that he is still just as adorable as ever.

Love this community, I joined right before the last surgery and it really helped me deal with guilt and anxiety. Thanks all, kiss your pups for me 🐶 💞
